Fit Gadgets: Wordlock
After you've had a long, hard workout, have you ever found yourself struggling to remember the combination to the lock on your gym locker? Perhaps it's because I'm not really a numbers person (hence the career in writing), but I've always had a tough time with combination locks because I just don't always remember the numbers. And so, imagine how happy I was to learn about Wordlocks!Wordlocks says numbers are for reps, not locker combos, and I couldn't agree more. They offer a variety of locks with word combinations that you set yourself, which is far easier to remember than a random assortment of numbers.
They have more than heavy duty padlocks that'll keep your stuff safe in even the sketchiest locker room -- they also have smaller luggage locks that are TSA recognized, so they're perfect for keeping your shoes protected when you're traveling for a race. And, they have bike locks, so your bike can be safe anywhere you choose to ride.
Your Turn: Do you read at the gym?
And I don't know if I trust the idea that you can't work out hard and read at the same time. Myself, I can read an article while running on the treadmill, and I know I'm working hard because I'm sweating buckets. Granted, it's not an in-depth, serious article on poverty or famine; It will probably be something on Angelina's speculative baby bump or Lindsay's latest loverboy. But I can read, and I do because it keeps me going and keeps me from checking my watch every 10 seconds.
I'm curious ...
Jumpstart Your Fitness: By understanding fitness lingo
Have you ever found yourself talking to somebody at the gym and feeling completely lost because they were babbling on about eccentric and concentric contractions and anaerobic thresholds? Or maybe more common terms throw you for a loop even though you've heard them around before. A big part of getting fit is not only understanding why you want to be healthier and in better shape, but also understanding how exactly you plan to get that done. The workings of the human body are complicated, and although knowing every technical term and body process is hardly necessary to being healthy, understanding a key few can definitely help. Some of these are super simple, and others not so much, but here's a little mini-dictionary of common fitness terms, courtesty of eDiets:Jody needs your help!

I have a magnificent personal training client, Jody. He recently turned 60 and has been training with me since Christmas Eve. He arrived at 320 pounds and has lost an amazing 40 already. He trains most days of the week and does a variety of exercises including: kickboxing on the heavy bag, treadmill walking, rebounding, weights, dancing and more.
He took off with a bang, but his progress has stalled over the past month. He's not on any particular diet, I've just given him the tools to make healthy eating choices throughout his day. He has the ability to be incredibly strong, and also the ability to say "screw it" and eat poorly too frequently lately (he's regained four pounds). He's tried to lose weight and failed too many times before, and I'm not going to allow him to fail this time. His goal is to lose at least 100 pounds which is completely reasonable and attainable.
Jody thrives on love and positive feedback, so since I am the fortunate trainer with access to the world via That's Fit .... I thought I'd ask you for your help. Have personal stories of success or words of encouragement to help get Jody moving again? Put em' in the comments section. I'll make sure Jody checks in to read them. Maybe your words will encourage the millions of other folks out there in his same situation as well. In return, I'll keep you posted on his progress and let you know how you're helping! Thanks in advance! Fitz
