Odd fitness: high heels racing
Correct me if I'm wrong, women of the world, but I get the impression that, while high-heeled shoes may help you look good, they're not helping you get anywhere fast.
Apparently, however, this isn't always the case. In fact, in Eastern Europe, they've made a sport out of running races in stilettos.
In St. Petersberg, Moscow and Berlin, ladies wearing shoes with a minimum heel of 9cm (3.5 in) competed with one another for thousands of dollars in prize money.
Seems crazy to me, and looks like a good way to break an ankle. But it's also yet another reminder that, no matter what your interests, you can find a way to get active and stay fit in a way that's fun for you.

Odd fitness: naked racing
As the saying goes, there's certainly more than one way to skin a cat. And, just to prove that you really can do anything to stay active (as long as you're doing something), here's yet another oddball way to stay fit -- naked racing (warning: link contains photos of naked people).
Leave it to the Danish to turn something normal like a running race into something slightly more...adult. The competition is pretty much exactly what you'd think it would be -- some hippies racing through a field clad only in their running shoes. It's all part of the annual Roskilde Festival in Denmark -- and, by the looks of it, the event draws quite a crowd.
While I'm sure this kind of fitness isn't for everyone, maybe it will spark some ideas for other things that you might find more enticing than your standard trip to the gym. Maybe, if you have a treadmill in your home, you could start with some naked indoor jogging, and eventually work your up full-scale exhibitionism.
Odd fitness: Bike Soccer
As I've mentioned before, there's no one way to stay in shape. In fact, for those of you who are interested in getting fit but don't know how to start, it doesn't matter what you do to get active -- as long as you find something that's interesting. The weight loss, the muscle gain (or whatever you're trying to achieve) will come in time, but you probably won't get started (and almost certainly won't stick with it), unless you're genuinely enjoying yourself.
Here's an example of a sport you probably hadn't thought of, but one that would certainly get your blood pumping -- cycle ball. It's a combination of cycling and basketball, that's surprisingly interesting to watch!
So, next time you're sitting on the couch, wishing you could get up the motivation to take a jog, or go for a swim -- call up a few of your buddies, grab your bike, and try a little two on two -- cycle ball style.
