Portion Distortion - Your Vice is Eating Too Much

Figuring out what your vices are and finding ways to reduce the effect they have on your diet is a surefire way to lose a few pounds. So last week, I asked you what your vices are. Here are your top answers:
- 28 percent of you said you struggle with portions -- you eat healthfully but you eat too much.
- 24 percent of you are sugar fiends -- your vice is dessert.
- 17 percent of you are addicted to snacking.
- 11 percent of you consider liquid calories your vice.
- 9 percent of you are love being lazy -- way more than working out.

Britney gives up booze, loses 10 pounds
Few can deny that Britney Spears is back on the top of her game -- she has given up her old hard-partying ways, gotten her recording career back on track and worked hard to get her famous figure back. Now, with only a few pounds to go before looking as stunning as she did early on in her career, she's given up her final vice -- alcohol -- and it's helped her lose an extra 10 pounds, the Daily Mail reports. Says a source close to the star: "She has decided to give up drinking alcohol, because not only does it cause weight gain but she wants to be on the ball. Britney has lost 10 pounds since giving up her one remaining vice, which obviously she is ecstatic about."
Britney's got it right -- alcohol is just a bunch of empty calories, so giving it up is important to weight loss.

I'm on the plane flying home from the Prilosec OTC Roundtable Discussion with the gorgeous actress, Cheryl Ladd and nutrition expert, Elizabeth Somer, R.D in New York City. They/we discussed the benefits that both a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude can have on today's Baby Boomers. I was happy to see two bright women, both 57 years old, who were able to close in on 60 without being or looking "old". While preserving their appearances and health, they still embrace and enjoy the gifts that come with aging.
Both Cheryl and Elizabeth personify the woman I hope to be when I am of similar age. Not only because they are gorgeous women who have defied the years physically though. Their healthy eating choices, chronic exercise habits, and joyous perspectives on life offer proof that with decent effort one can earn a long, productive, enjoyable life.
Fit Links: Sensible vices

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy ... isn't that the way the saying goes? It's true, too, even when it comes to health and fitness. Dedicating time every single day to fitness and taking measure of every morsel that goes in your mouth can go a long way toward improving your health and fitness, but let's face it -- is life much fun without our favorite vices?
The trick is moderation of course -- a treat is not a treat unless it only happens occasionally. But a vice can also be sensible. Over at Mark's Daily Apple, he shares his own idea of sensible vices in two different posts, the original and the sequel. Food Vancouver talks about why red wine is another sensible vice. And the folks over at HealthCentral show us that simple pleasures can also be good for you.
Unfortunately, many of my vices (peanut butter cup ice cream) do not fall in the sensible category. What's your biggest vice? Is it a sensible one?
