Got Cellulite? Try the International CHI Machine

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Reviews & Products, Alternative & Green Health

I headed to the Launa Stone Day Spa in Calabassas, Calif., for a Diamond Microdermabrasion Facial, which was certainly amazing, but I ended up crawling into a suntan-like horizontal bed called the Chi Machine which is supposed to create a repetitive, oscillating motion on torso, legs and feet. In addition to smoothing cellulite bumps, the Chi Machine is supposed to:

  • Provide a lymphatic massage and remove toxicity
  • Correct poor posture and relieve back pain
  • Increase blood circulation and bone marrow activity
  • Increase energy and mental focus
  • Reduce nerve pain and muscle fatigue
  • Improve insomnia and constipation

For sure, you might experience some effects if you do the Machine regularly; it runs anywhere from $60 to $100 per session at a spa near you. But I made several mistakes when I hopped onto the 14-speed contraption.

Lower Body Exercises - 3 of the Best

Fit Kicks Videos, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness

fit kicks

As your online trainer, it's my job to send to your computers my very best training advice. The ability to actually show you my favorite exercises is a gift, and I'm excited to share these three with you. They're moderately simple training techniques, but very challenging and exactly what I'd have you do if you showed up at my gym searching for a stronger, leaner and tighter lower body.

I recommend you do as many as you can of each exercise -- and aim for three times a week for the greatest results. Beginners may only do 10 of each exercise. My advanced clients build up to about 100 reps of each move. No equipment is required, so please feel free to do these moves anywhere and everywhere. No excuses! Progress slowly and you'll be sporting short shorts this summer for sure!

Thighs - Get Them Thinner in Three Weeks

Fitness

weightsI have to admit that I'm a skeptic when it comes to any exercise that promises rapid change. However, while I haven't done this move that promises thinner thighs in three weeks for the full three weeks, I can promise that it works all the right muscles.

  • Stand with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width. If you have a body bar, great -- hold it across your shoulders with a wide grip. I don't have a body bar, so I held five pounds weights in each hand (with my hands held at my sides).
  • Bend your left knee and squat down on your left side, keeping your right leg straight until you feel a stretch in your right inner thigh.
  • Tighten your butt and push up with your left thigh muscle until you reach a standing position.
  • Repeat with your right leg. Do 10 reps on each side.

Jiggly Arms - Tape Down the Arm Fat

Fitness

Oh, will the stupidity never end? First it was the butt bra, now there is tape designed to reduce that annoying under-arm jiggle.

Supposedly, you just adhere the tape to the unwanted wiggly, jiggly skin, pull tight and adhere the other end of the tape to the top of your arm. It's like a big band-aid for arm fat. Slim Tape allegedly works for thighs as well. Can you imagine trying to explain the reason for that big piece of tape on your arm or thigh? You can forget about tank tops or shorts.

If you really want to reduce under-arm jiggle, you need to eat right and do plenty of cardio to help shed extra pounds. You also need to work out those arms to get them toned and in shape. It may not be as quick of a fix as that silly tape, but you'll be a heck of a lot more proud of the results. Just ask Kelly Ripa -- check out the girl's arms in the gallery below.

Thighs - Take Some Big Steps to Tone 'Em Up

Fitness

Remember when step aerobics were the big trend? Well, this is step aerobics taken to new heights. Fitness Trainer Steven Cabral shows us how to use a regular kitchen chair to get both the outer and inner thighs toned. The trick is doing a lateral step, rather than the standard forward step.

I have to admit, while watching the video, I was completely afraid that Sarah from Diet.com was going to fall on her fit behind. So, for safety's sake, make sure you have a spotter to assist when you're doing this exercise.

Slim your hips with these 3 moves

Fitness

woman's hipsHips are one of those weird body areas where you want a little curve, but not too much. With the right exercises, you can keep your hips toned and dead sexy. Shape magazine has three moves that target your hips. The moves all use some special equipment, so you might not be able to do them at home. But keep them in mind for your next visit to the gym.

  • Side-lying leg lift. This move that works your outer hips uses an ankle cuff and a low-cable pulley.
  • Machine squat. This variation on a squat, using a hip abductor machine, works your outer thighs.
  • Standing side leg lift. A cuff and a low cable pulley are also used in this move that works your inner thighs and outer hips.

Top 10 thigh exercises

Fitness

woman's thighs in jeansI used to have legs that would stay fit and toned without much specific input from me. Sure they got their workout with cardio and other exercises, but I never did specific strength and toning exercises for my legs. My calves are still hanging tough for me, but the thighs ... well, they're not so agreeable. My thighs seem to be saying "You're in your late 30's and this joke's on you!"

So my thighs have been a target area of sorts for me. It may take some effort, but I'll show them who's boss. I found this series of 10 thigh exercises on Fitness Magazine and it's a good one. It's a good variety of squats, lunges, balance moves, and other exercises. All in all, my thighs are aching from the workout and I can't wait to see the results after including this in my workout routine for a few weeks.

Don't be a turkey -- cook that bird right

Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements

Halloween is over. Thanksgiving is next. That means less talk about candy and more about the featured meat of the month: Turkey.

As you prepare for your Thanksgiving feast, don't neglect to cook your bird to the proper temperature. You'll need to invest in a food thermometer -- it's the only way to tell if your turkey has reached a temperature high enough to destroy illness-causing bacteria. And you'll need to cook that bird until it has an internal temperature of 165°F for safety, and 180°F for the best quality thigh meat. You'll want to check your temps at two spots -- the thickest part of the breast and the innermost part of the thigh. Check your stuffing too, and aim to cook it separately until it reaches 165°F internally.

Get sexy thighs now, before the real heat hits

Fitness

As we head into the dead of summer the weather gets hotter and the shorts get shorter. There will come a day when the capris just aren't cutting it anymore and you'll have to bust out the shorts, so maybe now is a good time to start doing some thigh moves in preparation. You don't need weights (although you can add them in for a more challenging workout) and the only equipment you have to have for these moves is yourself, a chair, and a broomstick. Click here for instructions on how to do the thigh-toning Hack Squat and Standing Chair Leg Extension and get yourself some sexy summer thighs!

Q. Dear Fitz. I really need to tone by butt, abs, thighs and hips. I am thinking of getting a fitness ball DVD kit. Does this really work well for toning? Thanks. Lisa

A. Absolutely Lisa. The stability ball is one of my favorite toys/tools for fitness training because there is so much you can do with it. Of course the DVD to go along with it should give you some great ideas on how to use your ball. Besides the variety of exercises you can do with it, the stability ball is lightweight, deflatable for travel, inexpensive and fun!

Another version of the stability ball that was just released is called the Ballast Ball by BOSU. It looks exactly like a stability ball, but it is filled with five pounds of tiny beads that look like sand. The Ballast Ball doesn't 'run away' as easily as the regular ball, so it's easier to do things like squats on it without the fear that it will roll away while you're in the standing position. It's also a challenge to throw it up and do a variety of lifting exercises with it. I'm quite happy with mine. Great places online to get these balls are Power-Systems.Com, SPRIFitness.Com and BOSU.Com for the Ballast Ball. I wish you success!

Hey Fitz. I'm a 33 year old active male. I've always been a spritely little chap, running here, cycling there, and partaking in many different sports. Right now I play 5-a-side football (soccer) every Monday night throughout the year and I play 11-a-side football every Sunday from August to May. During the week I either run or cycle to and from work (which is a mere 4 miles each way)....

Starting from scratch for leaner legs

Fitness

Looking for leaner legs? Who isn't these days. Even if you're not necessarily looking to lose weight (and who isn't these days!) you'd probably still like some more toning and definition to go with all your cute shorts, skirts, and swimsuits waiting to be worn this upcoming summer season.

There are a lot of leg exercises out there, but some of the old staples like squats and lunges might be too strenuous if you're just getting started or have a lot of weight to lose. This 3 step plan intended to be added to whatever you're already doing will help you not only lose weight, but also shape your legs along the way without worry about over-doing it or getting hurt.
