3 Quickie Moves to Tighten Your Butt and Legs

squat signIf you're in search of sexy legs and a curvy can, squeeze these three moves into your workouts a few times each week. In fact, even if you aren't going to do a "full workout," just do these moves and your lower body will shine. I do these often myself and often incorporate them into the training sessions of my personal training clients. Each move works a variety of lower body muscles, and all of them will provide results quite quickly!

Squat Jumps: Squat down like a frog and explosively jump up as high as you can. This exercise will also crank up your heart rate, so begin with several sets of five jumps in a row with a short break in between. Increase your reps each workout.

Walking Lunges: Find a stretch of open space like a sidewalk or group fitness room. Alternating legs, take huge steps forward dropping your back knee close to the ground. Keep your back straight and avoid driving your front knee past your front ankle. Begin with 20 lunges and progress by adding steps or distance each time your train.

Which Celebrity Trains Upside-Down?

Yesterday I rejoined one of the most athletic guys I know, and he taught me both the most insane and brilliant exercises I've ever tried in a gym. His name is Anthony Field, and yes ... he's the Blue Wiggle from the children's TV show The Wiggles.

Anthony and I have trained together before, and he's impressed me each time. But yesterday ... I have a hard time finding words to describe. He started doing pull-ups almost two years ago, and he lost about 40 pounds. Then he added rings to his routine, which made things more fun. And now, well, the average person would just think he's lost his mind.

He is addicted to strength training while using nothing but his body weight, and his physique is proof that this strategy works like a charm. We spent a ton of time in a hotel gym shooting a bunch of fun and exciting fitness segments, which I'll be airing here soon. We giggled through it, but mostly because he doesn't speak "American" and I'm not so good at "Australian."

Research declares low-carb diet a winner

Which is best: Low-fat or low-carb? Results of one of the longest and largest studies to compare the two weight-loss techniques reveals that low-carb is the way to go -- for both weight loss and cholesterol management. Bummer for me, a carb-loving gal who is quite happy with a basket of bread, a plate of pasta, or a bowl full of crackers.

Two years this study has been taking place. And for two years, 85 percent of the participants stuck with the competing diets -- amazing, just like the results, which indicate for some that Atkins-like diets are pretty effective and are even capable of lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. Not everyone agrees. One nutritionist says this study is deceiving and leads people to assume low-carb and Atkins go hand in hand. But dieters ate the mono- and polyunsaturated fats found in vegetables, not the Atkins saturated artery-clogging fats found in cream and butter.

Heart associations are not jumping on board the low-carb anything just yet but are still recommending low-fat diets for the reduction of heart risks. They also like the Mediterranean diet.

Next time you get the chance to jet to the ocean, think of it as an opportunity for stepping up your workouts.

For a 150-pound woman, Health Magazine experts report that two to three times more energy is required to walk on the beach than on a hard surface. Women, you'll burn 82 more calories per hour by hoofing it on the sand compared to pounding the pavement. And if you're like me, you'll cover more ground at the beach as you ambitiously trek in one direction, only to realize the return trip is just as long.

Oh, and that frozen daiquiri you dream of sipping when your sandy excursion is complete: 112 calories.
