Get better posture ... Superman style

statue of person sitting at computerWhen I was younger, I used to have perfect posture. I had a choir director who just drilled posture into us. Through the years, my posture has changed. I'm a writer, so my job has me glued to my computer desk all day long. I try to maintain good posture but by the end of the day, I find my shoulders hunched forward and I end up with an aching back.

I found an article about this simple exercise designed to improve your posture. The exercise is dubbed "The Superman" because you start with your arms stretched straight out in front of you. There are no weights required and it works all the right muscles. I tried it and my back and shoulders feel loose and better than they did before. Whether it will improve my posture remains to be seen, but I'm willing to give it a try!

Want to try something different? Back in March, Jacki posted about a posture exercise she's been having luck with. Developing better posture is well worth the effort. Not only will your back and shoulders thank you for it, better posture can even help you look slimmer in your swimsuit.

4 superhero exercises

When you work out, do you ever imagine that you're a superhero, and you have to get in shape so you can save the world? Or maybe you are a superhero, but can't say because of your secret identity. It's okay -- we won't tell.

Whether or not saving the world has ever been your inspiration, you'll be sure to get a great workout with these four "Superhero Exercises," courtesy of Men's Health and MSN. For example, you won't just do pull-ups -- you'll do "Spider-man Pull-ups." And forget squat leaps -- you're going to be doing "Hulk Leaps."

The names might inspire you, or they might make you laugh, but either way, check it out -- you might learn a new move that could save the day (or at least vary your workout)!

Kids FitDeck cards: A super way to get moving

Kids are more obese than ever and Superman is super cool. So I can't help but absolutely love the idea of these FitDeck exercise flash cards for kids ... more importantly, for my kids!

They are a colorfully packaged card deck that includes 50 exercise cards, four instructional and two stretching flashcards, accompanied by a game and activities workbook. Each flashcard features illustrations and instructions describing a different exercise. You don't need any equipment and you use your own body weight to do the exercises. It's a novel product, targeted towards children ages 4 to 16 (in my opinion 4 to 10 would be more appropriate) . After all, what young kid wouldn't want to work out with the big guy sporting the "S" on his chest?

"Superman's greatest enemy is no longer Lex Luthor. It's childhood obesity," says FitDeck creator, Phil Black.
