Fitz's Low fat Cheese Fries -- Yummy!

Hey team! I just made one of my favorite "tastes really sinful but isn't" snacks and thought I'd share it with you. Cheese Fries are something I used to enjoy frequently while living in my former bigger body. Did they wreak havoc on my belly and butt back then? You betcha! Were they pretty darn tasty? You betcha! So, a while back I decided to use my moderate sized brain to create a version of them which wouldn't make my belly and butt so sad.

Have a looksy here at the recipe for my Low Fat Cheese Fries (page 33), give it a try and let me know what you think! I love great food, and have had great success substituting the fattening parts for equally tasty not so fattening parts. Enjoy!

Low fat Blueberry Napoleons with pistachio cream

I have a bunch of fun, lower in fat, less bad for you dessert options in the recipe section of my web site Fitzness.com. This Low fat Blueberry Napoleon with pistachio cream is a favorite of mine that is hugely popular at holiday parties. I like sweet treats too, but I'm not willing to stuff myself or my friends with butter or oil. Some of the recipes are real deal healthy, and some of them just offer better versions of the really bad stuff.

I love to bake and my treats are rarely pretty, but they're incredibly low in fat and absolutely delicious. Enjoy! Healthy Holidays from your online trainer Fitz!

I Can't Believe it's Not Butter spray is full of fat -- Buyer Beware!

One of the most frustrating things to me, as a fitness trainer is to see people who work so hard towards fitness get duped. The I Can't Believe it's Not Butter spray is one of those things. Now....I'm not suggesting the folks who make that product are liars. Cause they're not. I think the idea of their product is incredibly deceptive though, due to the fine print.

Did you know that the I Can't Believe it's Not Butter spray has zero calories and fat ONLY IF YOU USE 1.25 sprays. WHAT!? Who does that? If you use any larger portion though.....you're screwed. And how exactly do you accomplish a .25 spray?One teaspoon bags 20 calories and 2 grams of fat. Most people never read that fine print. In fact, most folks I know claim to pour it on their rice, pasta, and bread because they truly believe it's a completely fat-free product. Who knows how many thousands of fat calories these poor people have been unknowingly consuming for years? Do you think it's fair and reasonable for them to advertise ZERO CALORIES on the front of the bottle?

When I lecture on fitness I always address this topic, and I can't tell you how many jaws come crashing to the ground when I drop this information bomb. First looks I get are of shock. Second looks I get are of pure anger. They feel cheated and they have every right to. Of course, it would be nice if they read the ingredient lists which lists OIL as it's number two ingredient. But I still feel bad for the consumer, because they are lead to believe the product is completely fat-free and can be used at leisure. Fortunately though, I've found an amazing substitution which is legitimately fat-free, low in calories and delicious. I even bake with it!

It's OK to request healthy substitutions at restaurants

I just left a restaurant called Cheddars while traveling through . Of course with a name like Cheddars, I didn't expect it to be a fitness trainer's wonderland, but normally I can find something healthful/low fat on any menu and enjoy a meal I don't feel bad about.

What inspired me to blog was my waitress, Sharon's, resistance to simple substitution requests. Believe me, I do my best not to torture my server, but I don't mind asking a few minor modifications here and there. Today I ordered a grilled chicken salad minus the pecans on top. The salad comes with a croissant (which in itself is loaded with butter and fat), covered with honey butter. Regardless of the fact that I don't enjoy the taste of croissants, they're equivalent to eating a pastry. That was not something I wanted to do with my healthy salad.

So, I ask Sharon if I could have just a plain piece of toast or a bun instead. "Absolutely not", she tells me. "Really" I say. "We can't make that kind of substitution" was her reply. OK then. No croissant for me. Really irritated by this small but lazy response, I run in to the manager on my way to the restroom and politely ask if it is true about this no substituting plain toast for a croissant policy.
