Fit Gadgets: The best electric toothbrush for you

Diet & Weight Loss, Reviews & Products

If you're concerned about your dental health (and I hope you are), one of the best investments you can make is in an electric toothbrush. Research has shown that the circular motion made by electric toothbrushes is more effective than the up and down motion made by a standard hand-held brush.

Years ago, owning an electric toothbrush meant shelling out a pretty penny, but that's no longer necessarily the case. You can get a battery powered toothbrush for under $10, although you certainly can still spend over $100 for a good rechargeable one.

Consumersearch.com has some of the top ranked toothbrushes -- click through the gallery to see which might be the best match for your mouth. After all, while it's great to have toned abs and firm thighs, a beautiful, healthy smile is often the first thing people notice, and you owe it to yourself to keep it that way!

White teeth: The ultimate beauty and health accessory!

Alternative & Green Health

Straight white teeth: a universal sign of beauty and good health. And thankfully both can be come by fairly easily if you aren't lucky enough to have them naturally, or if you've ruined them somehow in the process of living (smokers!). Of course you'll have to see your dentist to straighten out crooked teeth, and although you can go there for whitening too there are fairly effective ways to do it yourself at home. From cheap to expensive there quite a few options out there, like whitening toothpaste, whitening strips, and whitening gels -- and then of course the professional options available in the spa or dental office. Some dentists like to "give back a smile"

Diet & Weight Loss

Smiling can be one of the great pleasures in life. From showing how happy we are to just laughing at the baby's latest gurgling, smiling and the appearance we give off to the world with our teeth set the stage for quite a bit of human interaction.

But physical abuse victims have a hard time smiling when some of those teeth are no longer there and facing the world without a complete "face" becomes an enormous challenge. As such, it was very gratifying to hear of a program called "Give Back a Smile."

This program matches domestic abuse victims with volunteer dentists who give away repair and dental services for free. Nothing can relieve you from past abuse experiences like having a fresh and new smile, and this program appears to be the provider of just that. How refreshing.

What to know about teeth whiteners

Diet & Weight Loss, Alternative & Green Health

Having whiter teeth can brighten your whole appearance, making you look younger and more attractive almost instantly. And whether you have it done professionally at the dentist's office, or use a do-it-yourself kit at home, it's a pretty basic process.

All teeth whiteners do their whitening with peroxide, and they only differ in how the peroxide is delivered and how strong the peroxide concentration is. You'll get a much stronger and more effective treatment at the dentist, but it'll cost a lot more too. And if you have dull teeth you should know that smoking and coffee-drinking aren't the only culprits -- things like blueberries, red wine, and even tomato sauce can cause discoloration. Also, you won't get the effect you want if you have gum disease so don't even bother (unless you're going for a two-tone look).

Whitening your teeth is really just a cleaning process that has surprisingly few side-effects, so if you're looking to give your looks a boost it might be something to consider. Just make sure you don't overdo it and end up with a glow-in-the-dark/Cheshire cat smile!
