Malia and Sasha Obama Found a Surprise in the White House

Recently, they had friends from their new school visit them at the White House. After watching movies, the girls participated in a scavenger hunt through the presidential halls (how cool is that?). The hunt was designed to help the girls become familiar with the White House and to feel more comfortable there. The final surprise of the hunt led them to the Jonas Brothers hiding behind a door. I think I could hear the pre-teen squeals from four states away. But what I'm really wondering is if the Jonas Brothers got a chance to bowl?
While your kids don't have anything as palatial as the White House to get used to and you can't rustle up a pop star as a final surprise, you can still set up a scavenger hunt in your own house for your kids. If, like me, you live in an area that's been suffering super-cold temps, you have to get a little creative to keep your kids active indoors. A scavenger hunt is a fun idea -- your kids might also enjoy a relay race throughout the house.
The Jonas Brothers Want to Bowl at the White House
Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

It's not such a far-fetched goal. The Jonas Brothers are performing at a January 19th Inauguration concert hosted by Michelle Obama. Plus, the brothers met Malia and Sasha Obama when they were on the set of the Ellen show; the famous siblings played ping-pong together. (In case you were wondering -- the girls won.)
It looks to me like you've got a couple ins to the White House lanes, Kevin. While the rest of us are more likely to bowl a perfect game than bowl at the White House, it's not a bad choice for a weekend activity. It's certainly no replacement for your fitness routine, but bowling is not without some fitness perks.

This weekend I had the opportunity to freeze my fanny off and get to know some of the professional ice skaters starring in the Smucker's Stars on Ice tour. As your resident fitness expert, I'm always searching for new training ideas, unique perspectives on health, and morsels of inspiration to help guide you more effectively to your fitness goals. I left the Smucker's show choc full o' all those things.
Sasha Cohen, Kyoko Ina, Michael Weiss and John Zimmerman (the skaters I spent time with) blew me away with not only their incredible feats on ice, but the way they pursue fitness beyond the way it relates to their sport. Three of the men on tour are even engaging in a contest between themselves to see who can improve their physiques the most during this tour. They've taken "before pictures" and everything! It was so cute. Of course they're all in tremendous shape already, but they've noticed that the food being served to them at some of the venues wasn't doing them any favors. They're taking their fitness up a notch, and that's wonderful! In my book it's OK to have high standards, as long as those standards are healthy.

I just got done chatting with myself....I think. No, it probably wasn't me. The person on the other end of my conversation is world famous and has a couple of of Olympic medals. Nope...it couldn't have been me. But! The other person sounded like me. I asked her questions about health and fitness, and she spat out the same stuff I've spent my professional life teaching. This person raved about the benefits of produce, lean meats and frequent challenging exercise. Yes. It could've been a brilliant fitness expert I was conversing with, but it wasn't. It was champion ice skater and Olympic Sliver Medalist, Sasha Cohen.
I chose Sasha to interview, because of her elite success in athletics. She's also touring with Smucker's Stars on Ice and puts on one heck of a show. She's one of the strongest, most flexible and entertaining athletes on earth. Beyond that...she turned out to be one of the best people I've ever talked fitness with. The girl gets it. I mean, she really gets it! She's a chic who seeks out highly nutritious, low fat, high fiber foods whenever she picks up a fork. She also pursues a well-rounded workout routine outside of skating. I loved what she had to say. I want you to pay close attention as well. She's physically small, but not just because of good genes. She works at it, and I believe she'll always be fit. It's a lifestyle for her, and that's what it should be for you.
Fitz: You're a brilliant skater and make a tremendously difficult sport look effortless. Do you remember when skating was hard?
Sasha: Oh Gosh! Skating is always hard. Sometimes it's a challenge to simply put one foot in front of the other. Every day requires effort just to get through it.
