Celebrity Fitzness Report: Samantha Who? star James Tupper

Celebrity Fitzness Report, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly, our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

James Tupper plays "Owen", the hunky new rich guy getting busy with Christina Applegate's character on Samantha Who? He's a rising star who spent two years working opposite Ann Heche (his girlfriend in real-life) in Men in Trees and has also worked on hit shows like CSI:New York, Gilmore Girls and many others. James greeted me with a super cheery "Hi Fitz!" for this interview and was really sarcastic and fun throughout. He's an easy guy who loves carpentry, outdoor exercise and playing with Anne's 6-year-old son Homer.

Want to know how he prepares to show skin on camera? Read on!

Fitz: I love Samantha Who? It's such a cute show. What's it like working with the lovely Miss Christina Applegate?

James: It's amazing. She is a fantastic comedian. We work 14-hour days, and she is awesome from beginning to end. I really enjoy working with her. She's also really smart; she blows through crossword puzzles on the set.

Christina Applegate is cancer free

Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements

Earlier this month Jacki told you that Christina Applegate, star of Samantha Who?, had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and now I have some great news to share -- the actress has announced that she is completely free of cancer, thanks to the early detection and the proper treatment.

Applegate, 36, has been getting annual mammograms since she turned 30 -- her mother is a breast cancer survivor, so she was aware of her risk. In an interview with Good Morning America's Robin Roberts (also a breast cancer survivor), she recalled her reaction to finding out she had breast cancer: "I was so mad and I -- I just remember I was -- I was just shaking. And then also immediately, I had to go into ... 'take-care-of-business mode,' ... I asked them, 'What do I do now? What -- what is it that I do? I get a doctor, I get a surgeon, I gen an oncologist? What do I do?"

What Applegate did was get all the help she needed, and she switched to a macrobiotic diet. And, obviously, it worked -- she's clear and told the world, "I'm clear. Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean. It did not spread. They got everything out, so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer."

Christina Applegate fights breast cancer

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

Just after it was announced that she's slated to appear alongside a bunch of celebrities on the September 5 telethon Stand Up To Cancer (broadcast simultaneously on CBS, NBC, and ABC), actress Christina Applegate shares that she has been diagnosed with the very disease she will stand up against: Cancer.

The 36-year-old Emmy-winning star of Samantha Who? has breast cancer, says her spokesperson. Thankfully, the disease was caught early during a doctor-ordered MRI, and Applegate is expected to make a full recovery. She is currently following the recommended treatment of her doctors.

The point of my telling you this is not merely to report on more celebrity news but to remind you that cancer is a real force in this world. It can happen to any one of us -- it's happened to me already. Sadly, there's a chance we have no control over whether or not we develop this disease. But, there's a also a chance we do. More and more, a healthy diet and exercise are linked to the prevention of cancer and it seems a no-brainer that we embrace the possibility that we can keep cancer at bay with smart lifestyle choices. That's why I chose a year ago to ditch sweets, red meat, alcohol, and loads of fats and calories. It's why I buy whole-wheat bread instead of the white stuff, why I minimize the purchase of packaged goods, why I work my butt off running, walking, swimming, biking, and more. I do it not only so I can fit into my size 6 jeans -- although I admit this is a nice side effect. I do it because first and foremost, I want a healthy body, one that sends a message to cancer that it is not a welcome visitor. Maybe my efforts will work. Maybe they won't. But I simply must give it my all. You should too.
