Quinoa - A Nutty Whole Grain to Try
Your choices for whole grains don't start and stop with whole wheat and brown rice. There's a wide variety of whole grains to enjoy. Quinoa has a nutty, delicious flavor and can be used in much the same way as rice. What's more, quinoa is jam-packed with nutrition. It's low in carbohydrates, contains healthy fats and is considered a complete protein (meaning it has all of the essential amino acids your body needs).
Enjoy quinoa as a sidedish, or incorporate it in any number of recipes just like you would with rice (just note that quinoa cooks up faster than brown rice). Try bell peppers stuffed with quinoa, try a twist on traditional rice pudding by using quinoa, enjoy it warm with fruit in lieu of oatmeal or add it to your favorite soup.

Lo Bosworth - Which "Hills" Costar Would She Switch Bodies With?
Celebrity Fitzness Report, Celebs & Entertainment, Reviews & Products
Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.
The Hills season finale on December 22 is quickly approaching on MTV, and I was able to catch up with reality star Lo Bosworth for a quick interview. To find out how she stays in shape and what her "realities" are while starring on this hit show, read on.
Fitz: How'd you end up on The Hills? What goes in to that?
Lo: Well, I started out on Laguna Beach back in high school. Then I went away to college. I was at UCSB and I transferred to UCLA my junior year. That was when Lauren and I were able to spend more time together. So I started going out a little bit and sometimes they would be filming. And then at some point, the producers just asked me to re-join the show.
Fitz: You're on a reality show but not necessarily a "performer" in Hollywood. You're supposed to be "real," but do you feel tons of pressure to be thin, beautiful and well dressed all the time?
Will Lo launch her own fashion line? Read on!
Give Yourself an Energy Boost
Biggest Loser Families - NFL Style

It's About Being Better Than Yourself, says Steve Young, the guy who sat patiently in Joe Montana's shadow for years. Work toward improving your own goals instead of doing 50 push-ups like the next guy. Don't let a size double zero keep your size 10 body from striving for a size eight. Stay focused within at the gym and you won't waste energy on outside comparisons.

How often do you exercise? Three to five days a week.
What type of exercise do you do? Resistance work; I hope to get back to TaeKwonDo soon.
What gets you to work out, even when you're feeling lazy? 1. Knowing that I have never, ever, ever said to myself, "Gee, that workout sucked. I shouldn't have exercised today." 2. Back fat. Ewww. 3. Most people peg me for being 10-15 years younger than I am. That didn't happen when I was fat a few years ago.
Old World Grains - Are They Better Than Whole Wheat?
Once only found in health food stores, these grains -- amaranth, spelt, and quinoa are a few -- are popping up on the shelves of local grocery stores. The good news, besides greater availability, is that these tasty treats may be even higher in disease-fighting nutrients than your average whole wheat, rice, and oats.
Want to give these great grains a try? Here are some tips:
- Pick bread with more than seven grains -- these are more likely to include some "old-world" alternatives, like millet and amaranth.
- Visit the rice and pasta aisle and give these a try: Boxed quinoa and Kamut pasta. Quinoa has a nutty taste, the pasta has a wheat flavor, and both cook in 20 minutes or less and can be swapped for rice or noodles in pilafs and soups.
- Try small substitutions by using these grains in foods like muffins, pancakes, even salads.
Healthy recipe: Apple halibut kabobs
Healthy Recipes, Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
It's that time of year ... early Fall, when apples abound, but warm enough that you can still grill without a parka. So what's this all mean to you? Another fabulously delicious recipe to make, which includes apples on your grill: Apple Halibut Kabobs.Grilling is a healthy coop all to itself because you use so much less fat than you would if pan-frying or even oven roasting. Yes, healthy fats are good for us in moderation, but you'll get those in the halibut -- so grill while you still can.
You want more healthy reasons to make this recipe? How about the loads of vitamin C in the apples and peppers? The onions and thyme lend their own healthy benefits as well.

Healthy recipe: Black bean and tomato quinoa
Diet & Weight Loss, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements
Are you all getting that I love quinoa yet? Well, why wouldn't I, when it is such a healthy source of protein, is versatile and very easy to prepare. My latest quinoa recipe find is Black Bean and Tomato Quinoa, touted as a side dish on Epicurious, but to me, a perfect vegetarian entree when served with a green salad and some whole grain bread.
This flavorful dish sports quinoa and black beans as hearty and nutritious sources of protein, zesty lime, the powerhouse tomato and scallions and fresh cilantro.
Try this fresh take on whole grains
I try to incorporate as many whole grains as possible into my family's diet. We always opt for whole-grain pastas, crackers, and most of our cold cereals are whole grain (we slip a few treat cereals in now and then). We also eat plenty of oatmeal, brown rice, and whole-grain cous-cous. But, other than adding barley to soups now and then, I run a little short on ideas for other healthy whole grains. There are so many delicious whole grains to try -- such as quinoa and triticale. The Whole Grains Council has a library of recipes to try.
Eat Better America has a recipe for tabbouleh with fruit that sounds wonderful. I'm a big fan of tabbouleh and this is a new twist I can't wait to try. Some of the ingredients include bulgar, fresh herbs, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, as well as olive oil and cinnamon.
Quinoa and grilled zucchini recipe showdown
Healthy Recipes, Diet & Weight Loss, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements
What? What do you mean I've posted a quinoa and grilled zucchini recipe before? OK, I admit it, I did the deed. But since these two recipes are so radically different, I thought it would be fun to do a comparison of the two recipes; surely you'll choose a favorite. The new quinoa and grilled zucchini recipe has eggs, pine nuts, goat cheese and a tantalizing yogurt avocado dressing, all providing protein and other nutrients. The original recipe I posted has garbanzo beans as added protein.
Most of the flavor in the original quinoa recipe is provided by curry spices, like cumin, paprika and turmeric. In this new recipe, fresh cilantro dominates for a very different flavor. Both recipes use healthy spices, so we're win-win here.

A delicious source of vegetarian protein? Quinoa, of course! It is not a true grain, so it is more protein than carbs, and it offers a plethora of vital minerals as well.Zucchini, chock-full of vitamin C and minerals, is abundant this time of year and healthy.
Garbanzo beans: high in potassium, vitamins B and E, and fiber; another powerful legume.
