Cheryl Tiegs Knows Beauty - What Motivated Her to Lose 50 Pounds?

Celebrity Fitzness Report, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

cheryl tiegsCurious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

As a three-time Sports Illustrated cover model and world famous supermodel, Cheryl Tiegs knows quite a bit about being beautiful. I suppose this makes her a perfect fit for her role as judge on ABC's new reality show True Beauty, which debuts this Monday, January 5 at 10 PM. Instead of really judging the unsuspecting contestants on their physical beauty, though, Cheryl and her cohorts will be removing folks who act really ugly. That should be fun to watch.

In the gallery below, you'll find more about the show and Cheryl's beauty tricks. You just might learn something new about Cheryl Tiegs -- for example, did you know she once gained a good deal of weight? Click below for more!

FAA grounds use of Chantix

Celebs & Entertainment

breaking cigarette in twoFor smokers who have had trouble quitting on their own, the prescription medication Chantix might have seemed like a lifeline. A pill to help them quit smoking. But sometimes artificial help comes at a cost.

The FDA had previously released warnings that people taking Chantix may experience suicidal thoughts. More recent reports are showing that in addition, many users are experiencing extreme sleepiness and possibly even seizures. In fact, the Institute for Safe Medication Practices linked the medication to more than two dozen traffic accidents.

In response to the concerns, the Federal Aviation Administration banned use of the medication for pilots and air traffic controllers.

Non-drinkers smell like alcohol on certain diets

Diet & Weight Loss

A Virgin Airlines pilot was recently suspended from duty, and interrogated by police after an airport worker told officials the pilot smelled of alcohol. Now, even though his breath initially tested positive for booze, he's been re-instated.

"Virgin Atlantic can confirm that the pilot who was questioned by police on 31st March ...will not be charged with any offense," the airline said earlier today.

So what gives?

Apparently, the pilot's diet made him smell like he'd been drinking, even though he hadn't. In his case, the culprit was his low-carb diet, but you apparently you can also test positive for alcohol if you're suffering from heartburn or acid reflux (as they both cause alcohol and to travel from the stomach back to the throat and mouth).

As this pilot almost discovered, appearing intoxicated when you're not can carry serious consequences. Especially given the popularity of Atkins and other low-carb diets -- it's a side-effect you should be aware of.

Jet lag is real, and it's bad for you

Diet & Weight Loss

Being an airline pilot, or even a stewardess, carries with it a certain air of being in some exclusive club. They always walk by in groups wearing their official-looking uniforms and pulling their cute little suitcases -- you can't help but feel like they have a charmed and exotic lifestyle full of travel and adventure. But that package deal may come with more risks than expected as more and more airline crews are facing serious health troubles, including everything from psychotic disorders to menstrual cycle disruptions. What's the cause? Jet lag. Specifically jet lag experienced a few times too many -- the body just can't adjust fast enough or frequently enough and as a result different systems suffer, particularly in areas of mental health and hormones.

Whether you're a frequent flier for work or pleasure, something to think about!

Aging airline pilots -- Is mandatory retirement wise?

Fitness

It's been in the news lately that aviation regulatory agencies have either been raising, or at least considering raising, the mandatory retirement age for airline pilots. The whole idea has sparked some debate, and a new study is out questioning the idea of an age limit at all.

The study came up with three major findings, and although younger pilots tested out better overall than their aging counterparts, in some areas the older pilots showed their years of experience -- for example by performing better than the younger ones on traffic-avoidance tasks.

I have to say I agree with the idea of doing away with standardized age requirements and going to some other method of individually assessing a pilot's abilities. I think there are some awesome 60 or 65 year old experienced pilots that are being forced to retire, while the occasional 50 year old who's lost his edge continues logging flight hours.
