Van Linsey Lets Moms-To-Be Golf in Style
Pregnant women can't always do all of the exercises and sports they did before they became moms-to-be, but golf is not one of them. In fact, I've actually heard that a baby belly can help with form (I can't attest to that, not having had a baby and having pretty poor form no matter what). The problem comes in when finding something to wear -- you don't want to dress sloppy out there on the course, but you need to be comfortable and able to move easily. And, just as important, you don't want to spend a fortune on something you'll only wear for a couple of months. What options do you have?
Van Linsey has a great solution, where mainstream meets maternity. The women in the picture above, a model and the line's designer, Vanessa Gobes, are wearing the same shirt in the same size. And Vanessa, who is pregnant in the picture (obviously), is wearing a pair of mainstream to maternity jersey pants, which have a comfy fold-down waistband, so they will fit nearly any size waistline.
Switched at birth
The title of this post sounds like the title of made-for-TV movie. But it's fact. A baby boy was mistakenly sent home with the wrong family. The mistake happened in March at Heartland Regional Medical Center in southern Illinois. Upon realizing the error, hospital workers immediately contacted the families. Though they were not required to do so, the hospital reported the incident to state authorities. I don't know how, in today's day and age, an error like this could occur. When people I know have given birth recently there are alarms on the maternity ward, infants and their parents wear matching bracelets, and photo IDs are taken of the children. In addition, unless there are medical issues, infants usually stay with their parents more now than in the past. At the time of writing, Heartland Regional Medical Center's web site isn't responding, so I'm not sure what their internal policies are.
Pregnant high schoolers ask for maternity leave?
Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
There has obviously been an increase in teen pregnancies lately, but here's a concept that is sure to stir the pot. High school girls in Denver who are slated to become new mothers are asking the school district for maternity leave in order to heal and bond. They're hoping to get at least four weeks out of the request.Keep in mind that Denver has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates. To put it in perspective, they even have a special school for new moms and mothers-to-be. However, that school has a waiting list. So now these girls are looking for leave to avoid unexcused absences. Otherwise, they would be required to get back in the classroom the day after hospital discharge.
Should the school district work with the girls and give them maternity leave? Or would that encourage teen pregnancies, so just require attendance as usual? It's a controversial topic with no easy answer. You can see where the girls are coming from, because the body does need to recover after giving birth. On the flip side, four weeks is a long time to miss school, especially for a district with so many of these cases.
Should Jamie Lynn flaunt her growing belly?
Celebrities and Entertainment, Celebs & Entertainment
Should Jamie Lynn Spears, 16 years old and 12 weeks pregnant, show off that growing belly of hers like sister Britney did? Definitely not, says maternity wear designer Liz Lange."Britney was into cowboy boots with little dresses,"says Lange. "That was her style. I'd like to see Jamie Lynn go a little plainer. [No] belly baring for her!"
Lange recommends the newly-pregnant Spears look her age.
"She's a young girl, so I would want to keep [her look] innocent," Lange says. "I think little cute dresses and jeans with tight-fitting tee shirts."
As for the magnitude of this life event, Lange says: "I hope she's ready for this -- It's definitely a big step. I know that as a mother myself. But if this is what she wants and what their family wants, then mazel tov."
