Fewer people lack food and health care globally, says study
Although the monetary gap between those with money and those without remains significant around the world, at least those without are finding it easier to find food and health care due to not having enough money. In a recent study by the Kaiser Foundation and the Pew Global Attitudes Project, 35 poor countries were studied to determine trends in food and health care availability.
In 23 of the 35 countries, fewer respondents reported they had not missed health care because of money, with the study reporting that improved national conditions were the reason for increased health care visibility for these poorer patients. The report concluded that "global health is a local phenomenon."
Is obesity a form of malnutrition?
After reading this article, it got me thinking -- is obesity a for of malnutrition? After all, many cases of obesity are due to the overindulgence of foods that can't be properly digested and absorbed by the human body. Since the body does not know what to do, it stores all that consumption in the form of an obese body. It's hard to state that most processed foods and refined carbohydrates these days are nutritious -- in fact, they are far from it. You may eat a large quantity of food, but your body is not getting anywhere near the actual nutrition it needs to work at an optimum level.
Hence, being obese can actually mean you are malnourished in many, many ways. As the saying goes, quality is way better than quantity, yes?
One billion poor suffer from debilitating disease
Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
If you have adequate access to health care resources and eat the right things, health should come naturally to most. But to those who live in under-developed and poor countries with little access to health care and nutrition that is far from adequate, disease and malnutrition can set in very easily. In fact, over one billion people in tropical countries are suffering from debilitating and disfiguring diseases due to the lack of official/governmental neglect, according to poverty and health officials.
Why is it some countries can take care of their own and others cannot? Access to global trade and resources is just one of many reasons, and no amount of help from others can change things in most cases. Countries need to want to change, yes?
