Glamping - Camping Gone Glam
You can fish for trout, and then have a chef prepare it for you. You can hike through the woods and then have a masseuse work out all the knots in your muscles. You can kayak, swim, and play volleyball by day and relax in your pre-pitched "tent" complete with amenities like furniture and running water at night.
If you like the idea of camping, but don't like the idea of roughing it, then glamping may be the retreat for you. Glamping is a mix of traditional camping with modern conveniences and luxuries.
The whole idea just seems a bit strange to me. After all, is it really camping if your tent doesn't leak when it rains and you don't burn your dinner over a campfire? How about you? Would a little bit of pampering be a welcome addition to your next camping trip?
Take a luxury weight loss vacation
If you're looking to get started on a weight loss program but need some inspiration and help getting started then maybe a luxurious weight loss get-away is just what you need. You'll get to travel to a beautiful resort and meet with a team of experts, including doctors and trainers, who will not only analyze your physical health and design a special plan just for you -- but they'll give you a beautiful and structured environment to do it in. And once you've finished burning calories by hiking through the hills or spinning in the gym you can relax with a luxury massage spa treatment and gourmet chef-prepared meals. The downside is that this kind of "luxury weight loss resort" will cost you a pretty penny -- upwards of $6,000 or $7,000 for a week's stay at some -- so for most of us it's probably more than a little unrealistic.
The most luxurious gyms
Not that many (or any) of us can realistically afford to spend thousands on a gym membership each year, but it's fun to see just what you would get if you could.
From the latest trends like free-motion equipment to unlimited access to golf lessons and personal training sessions, it probably wouldn't be hard to find ways to spend more time working out in these luxury gyms. But no matter how rich I was it wouldn't be so easy to pay upwards of $20,000 for an enrollment fee, followed by hundreds of dollars each month for membership. Even though I think a nicer atmosphere can make it easier to get going, the bottom line that exercising can be really cheap and all the extras are just frosting on the cake.
Upgrade to a luxury suite...at the hospital
A stay at the hospital is not a good time, and never brings to mind words like "luxurious" and "upscale." After all it's a hospital, not a four-star hotel...or is it?
More and more hospitals across the nation are embracing a new idea of medical care with amenities like high-thread-count sheets, suite-sized rooms, and nice china. Luxury hospital rooms and services have been widely available in Europe for some time now, and although they've been available here in the U.S. until recently they were all but a secret known only to the rich and famous.
That's not to say you don't still have to be rich, however. Obviously all hospitals differ, but if you're looking for a marble bathroom and a stocked mini-fridge you're gonna have to pay a pretty penny. Insurance will usually cover the costs associated with a standard room, and the patient is then stuck with the difference out-of-pocket -- which could range anywhere from $200 to $1500 a night.
