Lipo in a Bottle - Can It Really Work?

Reviews & Products

So, you've got cellulite. Who doesn't? Even if you're thin and totally fit, it's entirely possible to have a bit of orange peel skin on your booty and thighs, especially as you age. And it's not easy to get rid of, that's for sure.

elemis body sculpting serumBut, short of lipo, what's a girl to do if she wants to ditch the cottage cheese butt? Can any of the products out there actually get rid of cellulite, or are they essentially just pricey lotions?

I had a chance to try out Elemis Body Sculpting Lip-Refining Serum and Elemis Body Sculpting Firming Cream, which are designed to work together to reduce cellulite. In fact, Elemis boasts that, in 2006, independent clinical trials showed that 96 percent of women experienced positive slimming results, and 92 percent of women found that the appearance of "orange peel" skin was reduced by up to six percent. And while that's all fine and good, what I really wanted to know was whether or not it would work for me!

Liposuction Cures Love Handles, Doesn't Help the Heart

Diet & Weight Loss

absLiposuction is a quick -- if not entirely easy -- way to get rid of the belly fat. But while lipo might help you slip effortlessly into that itty, bitty bikini just in time for spring break, it won't do much to improve your health.

Belly fat isn't just unsightly, it's also dangerous. But the belly fat targeted by lipo sits just under the skin, while the stuff you really want to get rid of hangs out around your internal organs. Studies show that while lipo can reduce waist circumference, a risk factor for weight-related diseases, it doesn't appear to impact inflammation in the body.

There's only one way to banish that kind of blubber once and for all, through good old diet and exercise. Lipo can get rid of the fat, but changing your lifestyle once and for all prevents you from ever putting it back on again ... and that trumps instant results any day.

You Told Us ... Your Plastic Surgery Wish List

Your Turn

Last week, 26% of you said you would get plastic surgery in a heartbeat. So what's stopping you? For some, taking the time off from life to have invasive surgery is out of the question. For others, maybe it's a fear of needles or hospitals. But for most of you, price is the main deterrent. And even if you could scrape together the money, there may be more important ways to spend thousands of dollars than on vanity.

Still, I want to know what plastic surgery procedure you'd get if price wasn't an issue. Here's what you had to say:

  • 27% of you would opt to get lipo.
  • 15% want a tummy tuck.
  • 17% of you would get work on your breasts -- either enhanced or reduced.
  • 6% of you would get a facelift.

But, the majority of you -- 28% -- wouldn't get any surgery at all, even if it was free. Good for you -- it makes me happy to see that so many accept their bodies just the way they are. Thanks for sharing.

Freezing the Fat - The Non-Invasive Alternative to Lipo

Diet & Weight Loss

How would you like to get rid of your fat cells in a matter of a few hours? Sounds perfect, right? Well, you can. It's called liposuction, but it comes with painful side effects and risks of complications. But if lipo sounds like your kind of miracle cure, there's another procedure in the works that could potentially be even more successful at helping you lose the fat.

This procedure, developed by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard, is called cryolipolysis, and it works by freezing fat cells and in turn breaking them down without damaging other tissue like skin. It's currently undergoing clinical trials, but results are promising.

Still, it's not without its critics. As one leading expert warns: "These kinds of treatments are never going to be an excuse for not getting round to dieting. Nor is it going to be a treatment for obesity."

If Price Wasn't an Issue, What Plastic Surgery Procedure Would You Get?

Your Turn

Here at That's Fit, we're constantly telling you what we think about things, but sometimes it's nice to know what you think. So from time to time, we'll ask you a question. Don't be afraid to speak up -- we love feedback.

Earlier this week, I asked you if you'd get plastic surgery if you had the chance. I suspect many of you will say yes, so I want to know more. What kind of procedure would you want to get? Considering that more than half of you don't like your midsection, I think I can predict your answer but still, I want to know ...

If you could get one plastic surgery procedure for free, what would it be?

13-year-old gets lipo and a gastric lap band

Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

13-year-old Brooke Bates is the subject of some major controversy these days. The teenager recently had surgery to have a gastric lap band placed over her stomach, helping keep her from over-eating. But wait, that's not all -- when she was 12, she got liposuction and a tummy tuck, which helped the 220-lb girl drop 40 pounds. She gained most of it back, hence the gastric lap band. She's lost 15 lbs so far and is hoping to lose 50 more. Brooke days that after her first round of plastic surgery, she went from being the "big, fat girl to the popular girl." Plastic surgery is only available to adults in the US, so Brooke traveled to Mexico for the surgery.

I think this is absolutely appalling. Obviously, quick fixes aren't working (she gained almost all of the weight back after her first one, after all) so have her parents ever heard of teaching healthy habits? How about diet and exercise? There's no reason why a healthy 13-year-old shouldn't be able to lose weight the old fashioned way, Furthermore, why are her parents reinforcing the belief that she needs to be thin to be happy?

I think this is so wrong on so many levels. What do you think?

Trim your tush with a Brazilian Butt Lift

Diet & Weight Loss

We'll get plastic surgery to shape our face, our breasts, our stomach, our ... um .... ladyparts, so why not our butts too? The Brazilian Butt Lift is a plastic surgery procedure designed to give you a designer derriere. How does it work? By grafting fat from your thighs, stomach and lower back and strategically inject it into parts of your tush to give you the desired shape. And while I supposed this is the desired effect for some people, the last thing I need on my butt is more fat.

Interested in having a designer tush? It'll set you back about $15,000. And maybe it's just me, but with results like this, I can't really see it being worth it. Would you ever get it done?

Surgery-free lipo: Lipo-dissolve

Diet & Weight Loss

If you're considering LipoSuction but don't want to have surgery, there's a new procedure out there called Lipo-Dissolve. During the procedure, patients recieve a number of injections (60-70 per side) of a soybean derivative called phosphatidylcholine and an emulsifier called sodium deoxycholate in their fatty tissue. This compound helps break down fat and leave the body through urination. Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?

Not so fast -- The FDA hasn't approved this compound, so you should think twice about putting it into your body. And while the manufacturers are trying to get away with marketing it on the basis that it's a 'natural' product, the FDA is saying that it's not--it's a drug--and it hasn't gone through any proper testing to prove that it's either safe or effective.

Losing weight without all that pesky healthy eating or exercise sounds too good to be true -- and it probably is. Sure, you can lose weight, but at what cost?

Enhance your assets and reduce your hips all at once with Lipo

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

'If only', my friend said to me as we discussed her plans to get in shape for her upcoming wedding, 'If only I could take the excess fat from my hips and put it in my boobs, I would be one happy girl'. Although I am opposed to plastic surgery, it sounds kind of ideal -- taking fat from where you don't want it and putting it where you do want it. According to this post on Fitsugar, you can do it -- move fat from your trouble areas into your breasts.

What do you think? Would you do it? Here's what I say: A boob job is still a boob job, regardless of whether it's your own flesh that they're implanting or not. And lipo is a waste of money -- you're only skinnier, not healthier. The only time I'd consider this is if I had a mastectomy. What's the big deal with big breasts anyway? I'll stick with my A-cups and enjoy the freedom to wear all the cute tops I want.
