If you're like me, you've spent many days in either the pool or an ocean this summer. When I hit the water with my family, my purpose is to have physical fun. We're not the type to loaf on a chair, hoping to earn a few extra wrinkles before we call it a day. Heck no! We move! We play, we swim, we chase and more. Having said that ... I have two teeny kiddies and that's what I'm supposed to be doing.

Adults however, are entitled to play, chase, and move near or in the water too! Why the heck not? A warm summer breeze offers a great opportunity to feel strong, energized, and in good touch with our bodies. Women's Health magazine offers a bunch of cool yoga exercises to do at the beach. I like them, I really do. And as your adoring online Fitzness Trainer, I recommend you give them a try.

Building self esteem

Diet & Weight Loss, Motivation

We are so used to negative feedback that we are more aware of our weaknesses than our strengths. So it is often hard to enjoy success, no matter how small each success might be. Celebrating your strengths and achievements is a natural process to building self esteem. Learning to recognize that we are human and that we will make mistakes will also help us build self esteem so we all need to learn to forgive ourselves.

Self acceptance is required before self esteem can develop. Self esteem is built by experiencing success whether small or large. To build self esteem you need to stop dwelling on your weaknesses and learn to forgive yourself for your mistakes. Beating yourself up is only defeating yourself and your energy is better spent if you build positive thoughts about yourself even when things are not as successful as they can be. Learning to recognize if you are judging yourself against unreasonable standards will help you to know your strengths. So setting goals that you can reach is a good way to set yourself up for success and will continue to build strength in yourself.

A self help exercise is to write down the things you do successfully. Every mistake a person makes can be an opportunity to learn. We can't be afraid to make mistakes, this is how we learn to improve. Persistence and learning from past mistakes will help us succeed.

Feeling lost in your late 20s? Learn from those who've been there.

Growing up I always thought that by the time a girl was 30 she'd pretty much have her life figured out. Now, with a few more years and a bit of knowledge behind me, the only thing I know is that I don't know a thing! It seems like everyone else around me is getting married, having children, buying a home, accelerating their careers and doing all the other things that "grown-up" women do while I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow-up.

It can be pretty intimidating deciding what is best for you rather than just going with the grain and doing what everyone else is doing. How does a 20-something female figure out what is best for her personally and what will make her happy without the wisdom of an entire life behind her?

I find that when I'm at a major crossroads and trying to decide what i want or need out of life, the best advice always comes from those who have been there before. Mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other older and wiser females have benefited from years of successes and some failures. So next time you're freaking out about your next big step - whether to use the money you've saved on a down payment on a condo or to take off on the trip of a lifetime, for example - go ask a girl with a little bit of experience and perspective.

Going to a fitness conference

Healthy Aging, Healthy Places, Womens Health, Healthy Products and Reviews, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Reviews & Products, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health

Friday April 17th, I'll be attending a fitness conference. Fitness conferences are a blast and are designed to take fitness professionals to the next level. Keep us updated on new tools, toys, and training ideas. It's a place where we share our research, invention and experience. It's a awesome!

I've been going to these conferences for almost two decades and I look forward to each and every one. I love my job, would do it for free if I was one of those 'trust fund kids,' and love the buzz I get from the whole experience of helping others live better and longer. Fitness conferences are super cool, because they inspire and educate my colleagues and I to better ourselves in order to better you.

Fitness pros aren't the only ones who'll benefit from them though. I would love to see more general fitness enthusiasts there. You get to choose the courses you're interested in taking and just go experience a bunch of different innovative workouts. For example. The area I live in does not offer any Strip Tease classes. But, I got to try one at a conference. Does that mean I want to become a stripper or become the Strip Tease instructor? NO! I just wanted to go do it for fun. By the way.....from my experience, the class is basically a hip hop dance workout with some extra thrusting and hair flipping.

Is going to college bad for your memory?

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness

They need to stop doing studies on college and higher-education, because every time they do I just get more confused.

The latest research finds that people with higher educations suffer faster memory loss as they age. The study looked at people over age 70 and asked them to remember 10 words. The same people were tested up to 4 times between 1993 and 2000, and those with more schooling had a greater loss than those with less. Given, they had more "knowledge" to start with, but a lot of good that did them since they ended up at the same place as their less-educated counterparts in the end.

Okay, so college reduces your risk of stroke as you get older, but now it also increases your risk of memory problems. However will we choose?

Going to college can reduce your risk of stroke

Healthy Habits, Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss

A study done in Europe shows that being well-educated lowers the risk of stroke for women. 48,000 Swedish women were followed over 10 years, and the data shows that those with less education had a much higher risk -- as much as two times greater -- of having a stroke than those with higher educations.

Researchers attribute the difference mainly to socio-economic status and associated lifestyle choices, like smoking and drinking alcohol. Many people are encouraged by this study because it confirms that educating people really can improve quality of life, and that making an effort to reduce your risk factors for stroke can have a huge impact.
