Kate Winslet Wins $40K in Lawsuit After Paper Claims She Lied About Her Workouts

Celebs & Entertainment

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet has been awarded $40,000 in libel damages over allegations made by the U.K.'s Daily Mail that she lied about her exercise regime.

In a January 2009 article, the newspaper disputed a quote that Winslet gave to Elle magazine: "I don't go to the gym because I don't have time, but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home." The article also featured naked photos of the actress, claiming that she must have worked harder on her figure. Her lawyer told reporters that the story was offensive in nature and "simply not true".

Kate Winslet - Who Needs to Diet and Exercise?

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

kate winsletI've always been envious of those people who have a hard time eating when they're nervous. I have the opposite problem -- I want to stuff everything I see down my throat. And then, because I don't do that, I'm crabby. I'm not a lot of fun when I'm nervous.

Kate Winslet, on the other hand, sounds like an absolutely delightful nervous wreck (but, then again, when is she ever not a complete delight?). She admits that she's more nervous this awards season than ever before (she's nominated for two different films, The Reader and Revolutionary Road), and she has a surprising way of dealing with the butterflies.

She told People magazine that she's "not exercising at all, and I'm eating whatever I like." Including lobster macaroni and cheese. And she still looks like that? I'm willing to bet that this phase is a very short one, and she'll be right back to her healthy habit of "everything in moderation" shortly. She might not think she has an impressive body, but the rest of the world does, and I don't see her letting it go anytime soon.

Kate Winslet Has a Crumbly Stomach

Celebs & Entertainment

Maintaining a hot body after two kids is difficult -- something acclaimed actress Kate Winslet can and will attest to. The star recently bared all to reporters -- well, verbally anyway. Here's what she recently said: "I have a crumbly baby belly, boobs are worse for wear after two kids ... I'm doing all right. I'm 33. I don't look in the mirror and go, 'Oh, I look fantastic!' Of course I don't."

But don't feel too sorry for her. As Jacki told us last week, Winslet is perfectly OK with her body, crumbly bits and all. In response to her nude scenes in an upcoming movie, she pooh-poohed the idea of using a body double, insisting, "Nobody is perfect. I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect.' I'm proud of that."

Good for her! Your thoughts?

Kate Winslet Gets Naked and Eats Everything Except Pasta

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

We've been giving Kate Winslet a fair amount of press lately. We've told you about how she was a fat kid and how she denies any Vanity Fair retouching. And we've reported about how one costume designer thinks she has a great body. And now we're telling you this: Kate is appearing naked in her upcoming film The Reader, and she isn't using a body double. Why is she so comfortable in her own skin? Because she keeps life simple, eats well, and exercises too. And that's enough.

Kate reports that she eats a little bit everything, except pasta -- it gives her a stomach ache -- and she's a pilates girl who does her workouts on the living room carpet. "I have a mat and little hand weights and I do a stomach thing and a bum thing," she says. "It's very simple – you barely break into a sweat."

No trainers, chefs, diets (or retouching) for this star, who is perfectly happy with her body. "Nobody is perfect," she says. "I just don't believe in perfection. But I do believe in saying, 'This is who I am and look at me not being perfect.' I'm proud of that."

Kate Winslet Has a Terrific Body, Says Costume Designer

Celebs & Entertainment

Kate Winslet is one of my body image idols. She is who she is -- she embraces her curves and doesn't buy into the idea that you have to be a size zero to be successful in Hollywood. And according to her costume designer for the upcoming film Revolutionary Road, her body is perfect as it is. "Kate's Body is terrific to work with," says Alberta Wolsky.

Speaking out amidst the scandal surrounding her potentially airbrushed Vanity Fair cover photo, Wolsky goes on to say, "Kate is a serious actress but she is someone who really cares about what she looks like. She is not out to be someone that she isn't, she wants to be herself. She is terrific." Adds her representative: "She is in terrific shape and what you see is how she looks or she would never have agreed to pose for those shots."

I couldn't agree more. Your thoughts?

More celeb fad diet revelations

Celebs & Entertainment

Are you up on the diet secrets of celebrities? Do you want to know how Hollywood's hottest stars get fit and fabulous? While most will insist that being thin comes naturally, a lot of the succumb to fad diets, just like us. Here's more info on who fell for what diet:

Blood type diet: Courteney Cox-Arquette fell for this diet, which matches blood type with what you should be eating. O's, like me, should eat meat, which actually I hardly ever do
Cave man diet: A book called Neanderthin, which insists that we should eat like early humans did by consuming one meal a day, counts Liz Hurley among it's supporters.
Raw Food Diet: Demi Moore subscribes to this diet, which believes that cooking stuff destroys important nutrients
Facial Analysis Diet: Kate Winslet is one of this diet's followers, which is based on the belief that your health and diet can be determined by reading the texture of your skin.

How'd they do it? Celeb Moms and their slim-down secrets

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

I've never had a baby but since I have enough trouble getting rid of that extra 10 pounds I gained on my trip to Greece (Oh, gyros, you are pure, tasty evil), I can only imagine how hard it would be to lose an extra 30 pounds. How do moms do it?

AOL Body has put together the slimming secrets of some top celebrity moms. Among them: Heidi Klum, who used a personal trainer and the 3-Hor Diet; Kate Winslet used some British weightloss plan called the Facial Analysis Diet (umm, have to look that one up!); Reese Witherspoon ate healthfully and did yoga; Denise Richards used the Zone; and Kate Hudson went high-protein, low-carb.

Winslet wins libel settlement over diet doctor claims

Celebs & Entertainment

Kate Winslet, an actress who has a reputation for criticizing Hollywood's fixation on ultra-thin women, was accused of hypocricy by Grazia magazine -- who claimed Winslet had visited a diet doctor.

Yesterday, however, the star won a libel suit against the gossip rag, as she had, in fact, been seeking treatment for a neck problem.

The magazine released a statement saying: "We are very happy to set the record straight and sincerely apologise to Kate for the distress caused."

At the time, Winslet was reportedly very upset by the report, and, in the wake of her legal victory, said through her lawyer: "I am not a hypocrite. I have always been, and shall continue to be, honest when it comes to body/weight issues."

It's so refreshing to see an actress with a healthy perspective on body image. Congratulations to Kate for clearing her name.

Kate Winslet was "addicted to losing weight"

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

Normally when you hear about Kate Winslet, she's being applauded for her acting abilities, or for standing up against Hollywood's "generation of anorexics." But the Oscar-nominated actress has recently revealed that she, too, used to be "addicted" to dieting and losing weight -- once going so far as using laxatives for three months to shed the extra pounds.

According to the film star, "When I was 15, I was 14 stone (about 196 lbs). I was uncomfortable and self conscious ... Over a year I sensibly got down to 10 stone (about 140 lbs). Then I became addicted to losing weight and went to far."

These days, however, Winslet stands firm in her beliefs that she shouldn't have to look like "stick insect" to have a film career. She's happy with her appearance, proud of "all the marks and scars" that she bears.
