Fitzness Training with Stars on Ice

This weekend I had the opportunity to freeze my fanny off and get to know some of the professional ice skaters starring in the Smucker's Stars on Ice tour. As your resident fitness expert, I'm always searching for new training ideas, unique perspectives on health, and morsels of inspiration to help guide you more effectively to your fitness goals. I left the Smucker's show choc full o' all those things.

Sasha Cohen, Kyoko Ina, Michael Weiss and John Zimmerman (the skaters I spent time with) blew me away with not only their incredible feats on ice, but the way they pursue fitness beyond the way it relates to their sport. Three of the men on tour are even engaging in a contest between themselves to see who can improve their physiques the most during this tour. They've taken "before pictures" and everything! It was so cute. Of course they're all in tremendous shape already, but they've noticed that the food being served to them at some of the venues wasn't doing them any favors. They're taking their fitness up a notch, and that's wonderful! In my book it's OK to have high standards, as long as those standards are healthy.

Does it help that Mitt Romney is HOT?

I just overheard some women chatting at lunch today about the "hotness" of Governor Mitt Romney. Will that help him in this election? All of the polls and newscasters are predicting Senator John McCain to win the most delegates today, Super Tuesday. Hmmm. Maybe Mitt's sexiness will help him pull ahead.

I just bring up the question, because the chatty ladies put it in my head. I do agree though, that Romney is a looker. If I were a single lady and he were a single man.......I'd let him take me to lunch. But, that doesn't really sway me. I'm not that type of voter. I actually think extremely highly of both candidates. I do find it funny in fact, that Mitt's looks haven't been a topic.

Hairspray's Blonsky tackles weighty role

Actress Nikki Blonsky, best known for her co-starring role alongside John Travolta in the movie Hairspray, is up for more nods come next year when her theatrical release Harold debuts. She's also finishing work on Lifetime's movie Queen Sized, premiering January 12 at 9:00 PM (ET/PT).

In Queen Sized, Blonsky brings to life character Maggie Baker, an overweight, outcast teen nominated for homecoming queen by girls plotting to humiliate her. The story ends happily, with Maggie overcoming adversity. Wouldn't it be nice if all such weighty issues had happy endings? Wouldn't it be grand if weight wasn't even a basis for pranks and jokes? OK, I'm dreaming.

Blonsky, 19, says this movie beautifully captures the essence of queen-sized issues.

"It's an amazing story of coming into your own, acceptance and believing in yourself," she says.

I plan to tune in -- how about you?
