Rachel Weisz's Trainer Tips to Drop 5 Pounds

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Motivation

When a Hollywood celeb has to get slim and sculpted in a jiffy, she hires a slew of professionals to whip her into shape. The rest of us, unfortunately, don't have that luxury -- until now. We asked celebrity trainer Gregory Joujon-Roche, and his Los Angeles-based Holistic Fitness team of nutritionists and chefs to come up with a fast program that's guaranteed to help you drop 5 pounds, blast fat and firm up everywhere. The team's methods have worked for such clients as Demi Moore, Rachel Weisz, and singer Avril Lavigne, who have all called on Holistic Fitness to help them reach their better-body goals.

Joujon-Roche and his experts walk you through their exclusive, results-guaranteed program:

  • High-intensity cardio training five days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. They advise full-body cardio activities where you use both upper- and lower-body sculpting, such as kickboxing, flowing power yoga and rowing.
  • High-intensity weight lifting with free weights or machines three days a week. Lift on non-consecutive days, so your muscles (chest, back, arms, legs, abs) can recover in between. This also means at least 15 minutes of targeted ab training three days per week.
  • A lower-fat diet of 1,500 calories per day [for women], and health-promoting habits from the start. "From day one, we encourage you to maintain an exercise-diet journal, take a multi-vitamin, and drink 10 glasses of water and green tea daily," says Joujon-Roche. "Plus, start eating a high-fiber, protein-packed diet that fuels your body, sustains willpower and revs up your metabolism."

Katherine Heigl Wants Nicole Richie's Body

Celebs & Entertainment

Who does Katherine Heigl, one of the most gorgeous stars in Hollywood, wish she looked like? Nicole Ritchie, of all people. The perfectly-proportioned star recently admitted that when it comes to her size, she secretly wishes she were closer to the scary-skinny end of the scale, rather than the beautifully-curvy position she currently occupies. "My own insecurity makes me want to look like Nicole Richie," says Heigl. But she's 5 feet 9 inches tall and says she has "substantial breasts, hips and everything else, so it's never going to happen," even though I think most of us would agree that Heigl's figure is the one we'd rather have.

But the "Grey's Anatomy" actress admits that she doesn't have what it takes to diet like Richie. "What stops me is that I want young girls to look at me and think: 'That's healthy, that's what I want - she's on television and she looks like me,'" she says, adding that she hates dieting and is obsessed with food. Plus, she keeps red-carpet ready by working out with celeb trainer Harley Pasternak, and she even does ab exercises while she gets manicures.

I'm glad she takes her status as a role model seriously -- but by admitting she wishes she were thinner, do you think she's a healthy one?

One celeb who's definitely a good role model is Michelle Obama -- she's in the best shape of her life!

Julianne Moore - Does She Diet? You Bet

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

julianne moore Julianne Moore seems like a pretty normal girl when I see her interviewed. I mean, she's a star, yes. But she's also a wife and mom to Caleb, 11, and Liv, 6. A typical evening, she says, involves dinner, homework and bath time. Hey, pretty much like my life. Well, except for the whole celebrity thing. And the lots of money thing. All in all, though, I think she's a pretty grounded gal.

Still, the famous mom admits she complies with the whole Hollywood weight loss thing. "Of course, I diet for roles; everyone does," the 48-year-old tells Redbook magazine (check it out when it hits newsstands January 27).

Hey, it's part of the job, I guess. Her body is her instrument, after all. I'm just glad my computer keyboard is mine. I like to reserve my body for personal use only. How about you?

Emma Watson Thinks Thin is Ugly

Celebs & Entertainment

In a world where so many Hollywood starlets cave in to the insurmountable pressure to be thin, it's nice when someone young, impressionable and promising goes against the grain. Take Harry Potter's Emma Watson, for instance. The pretty and talented actress recently admitted that she doesn't think thin is beautiful, saying "I don't think it's very pretty to be really, really skinny. It's not inspirational at all for me."

Still, it's easy for her to say -- she's 18 and naturally slim, after all. "I'm lucky and I'm this size naturally," she concedes, adding, "I don't diet and I don't aspire to be super skinny. I just don't think it's very pretty. Even if I wanted to be that skinny, I love food and I love cooking and I love sitting down and having nice meals, so it just wouldn't be possible for me."

Good for her -- now let's hope that a slowing metabolism in 10 years time doesn't change her healthy body image.

How Hollywood Mommas Slim Down - Here's What You Think

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

Keri Russell, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Brooke Burke
How do celebrities score their hot post-baby bodies in the blink of an eye (Keri Russell!)? Could it be good genes, chasing after little ones and breasfeeding? We think not. And we don't appreciate being fed lines like these. Come on, dropping loads of weight just by doling out breast milk doesn't cut it. We want the real scoop. So we asked for your spin on how Hollywood moms shed their skin. Here's what 93 of you told us.

  • 5.4 percent of you think celebrities don't eat (hunger is overrated, right?).
  • 7.5 percent of you think these superstars eat perfectly delivered meals.
  • 21.5 percent think Hollywood hotties train with hot fitness guys while nannies watch their babes.
  • 5.4 percent of you think secret surgeries sum it up.
  • 60.2 percent of you think celebs subscribe to all of these practices.

I agree with the majority. It's probably a combination of perks that allow these famous folks to reclaim their pretty bodies. Lucky them.

Nicole Richie Puts Joel Madden on a Diet

Celebs & Entertainment

When there's a newborn in the house, it's typically the mother who's trying to lose the baby weight ... except in the case of baby Harlow Madden's parents. Mom Nicole Richie had no trouble getting back into near skeleton shape -- it's dad Joel Madden who's had to work off the baby weight. Thankfully, Nicole is an expert at dieting, and she's using her know-how to help Joel slim down.

According to a source, Nicole has banned high calorie junk food from their house. "Joel laughed it off at once, but Nicole became a food vigilante," says the source. "She has banned fried food and most sugary items from the house. This was a true hardship for Joel because he was a junk food junkie. After some initial grumbling, Joel turned out to be a model dieter, much to Nicole's delight. He is raving about sleeping better and having more energy."

Will Joel turn into the latest bobble head to rule the scene in Hollywood? Time will tell.

Kate Beckinsale is in better shape than ever

Celebs & Entertainment

Kate Beckinsale, the pretty and petite star of films like Serendipity and Pearl Harbor, is gracing the cover of this month's UK addition of Elle. But we're more interested in what's inside the magazine -- the 35-year-old actress is opening up about size, healthy habits and body image in an industry where appearance is all that matters.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • On Body Image: "I'm amazed that people obsess over my body image so much. Why do we encourage this war on women's bodies? It's a horrendous way to live, and I refuse to. I'm entirely normal. I have my good days and my bad days. I am a lot more body confident now I'm in my thirties, and am in better shape, too."
  • On Diet: "Now my typical daily diet is eggs or oatmeal for breakfast, a chicken or vegetable wrap for lunch, then fish and vegetables for dinner. But if someone turns up with cupcakes mid-afternoon, I'll have one. I'm not aiming to be Gisele. And I'd hate to be one of those people who won't allow themselves a slice of birthday cake."
  • On Fitness: "I just can't make it part of my daily life. I go to the gym when I have to, and if I have to bulk up or slim down for a film, I will. I've recently got back into exercising four times a week. I run for half an hour at a time but never outdoors as I don't exercise in public. My gym's in my garage at home."

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Ashley Jensen's healthy, un-Hollywood attitude

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs, Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment, Motivation

Ashley Jensen, who plays Christina on the hit show Ugly Betty, isn't your typical actress -- she shares none of the attitude about appearance that you'd expect from someone in the spotlight. She shared her feelings about beauty and weight and the Hollywood ideal in a recent interview with Daily Mail.

"I always knew I was never the prettiest or ugliest girl in the room. Life's too short to inject botulism into your face to get rid of a tiny line because you've laughed too much. I don't feel a need to loose weight, because I'm not 21. I'm happy with my package," said the actress.

She added, "We're obsessed with how we're meant to look. I feel a responsibility to not do that because it's dangerous. People end up having exactly the same bodies."

Q. Hello! I came across your trip reports from your Disney World vacation in June while searching the web for some advice on healthy eating at Disney. Very helpful posts -- thank you! Our family was there last summer and we are going back next week. However, since January I have lost around 55 lbs (with a few more pounds still to go). I wasn't that concerned about eating healthy last summer, but I am worried this summer that I will gain weight during vacation instead of maintaining or losing weight, as I am still trying to do. I know that Disney World is tons of walking (it's me, my husband, and our two boys, ages 7 and 5), but there is no nutrition/calorie information for any of the food from Disney's table or counter-service restaurants. The main way that I have lost weight is by counting calories and exercising. So I feel a little "lost" when it comes to what I will eat on vacation. Also, my husband and kids are fairly picky eaters and so we pretty much only eat at places that offer the standard "hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pizza", etc. Thanks for your trip report -- sounds like you and your family had a wonderful time at Disney World!!! Melody from Delaware

A. Hi Melody. Lucky you! I wish I were going back to Disney next week! Hopefully my answer will prove to be the simple reassurance you need to relax and enjoy the magic of Disney. Sweetie ... you've lost 55 pounds; you already know what you are doing! All I want you to do is to continue pursuing the same fabulous food you choose at home in Delaware. Disney has totally cleaned up its act in the healthy food department. I literally found healthier menu items at Disney's Magic Kingdom than I have ever found in my own home town!

Shocker: Actress told to gain 10 pounds

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

In Hollywood, it seems skinny is never skinny enough. Unless you're Actress Megan Fox who was told by Transformers II director Michael Bay to gain 10 pounds if she wanted a role in his movie.

Fox, who had gotten pretty darn thin for her role in the upcoming film Jennifer's Body, was deemed too skinny for Bay who just doesn't like skinny girls. So she put on 10 pounds, just as she was instructed to do. How did she accomplish this feat? She eats red velvet cake every night before bed and spends little time working out. Not exactly two very healthy endeavors. In time, though, she might makes some changes.

"I'm kind of naturally fit for now," says Fox, 22. "But I hear when you turn 25 your body changes, so I might be out of luck once I hit that age." Uh, yeah.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Kim Cattrall knows what's important

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Motivation

Kim Cattrall has no problem showing off her body as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, so you might assume that she has a naturally fabulous figure and that keeping her body perfect would be the most important thing in the world to her. However, the star shared with Good Housekeeping her best beauty secrets, and you might be surprised at what she had to say.

Her secret has nothing to do with painful treatments or fancy workouts. Instead, the 51-year-old star says, "I've exercised and dieted most of my life, because I'm a big girl -- I'm not a tiny little thing. But I've realized that the most important thing I can do to look good is just treat myself well ... Having my priorities in order has really helped me look better, fresher, and more relaxed."

Kim had more to say about age and the SATC movie. To read more, check out the Good Housekeeping article here.

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake are Hollywood's Buffest Couple

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel might not be fans of the paparazzi, but they're probably going to have to endure a little extra attention now that they've been named Hollywood's Buffest Couple by In Touch magazine.

You might not think that's such a big deal, but let's take a look at the competition. To take the top spot, Jessica and Justin had to beat out Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady, Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, and Tony and Eva Longoria Parker. Beating out these buff bodies must have taken some hard work!

Last week, Justin was a guest on Ellen and said that Jessica sometimes works out with him and "kicks his butt," and she's "WonderWoman" in the gym. Wouldn't you love to follow them around for just one workout? I know I would!

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Round-up: May 16, 2008

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Roundup, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

Celebrity moms Cate Blanchett and Halle Berry are out and about and looking amazing. Halle dished up the details on what she's doing to get her body back, but Cate, as usual, hasn't really made mention. Cate looked like she was right back to her pre-baby svelte figure this week at the Cannes Film Festival, and it's only been four weeks since she gave birth to her newest son. Do you think it's natural that her body bounced back so quickly, or does it have more to do with the pressure a 39-year-old actress faces in Hollywood?

Valerie Bertinelli, who dropped weight last year alongside Kirstie Alley with Jenny Craig, is working hard to maintain the slim figure she achieved, but she's not complaining about it. She's continuing to follow the good habits that helped her lose weight, which means no snacking in front of the television and making sure she gets in 10,000 steps each day. With her healthy new figure came another bonus -- a rediscovery of her love of being in the water. Valerie has gotten back into watersports, like surfing. It's great to see her maintaining her weight and living a healthful life!

Sarah Ferguson admits that she continues to have negative body image issues on a daily basis, saying, "I think I'm fat, ugly, and disgusting -- that I'm unworthy and nobody likes me." The formal royal has an interesting way of dealing with these problems -- after her daily morning workout, she takes an ice bath and feels "invigorated" for the rest of the day. Hey, whatever works, right?

What men crave: Real bodies

Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment, Motivation, Alternative & Green Health

Gabriel Olds is a Hollywood actor. He's appeared on CSI, Law & Order: SVU and Six Feet Under, and his most recent film is Life of the Party. Usually the bad guy on TV, Olds is really a pretty good guy. Why? Because when it comes to women, it isn't fake boobs or fixed noses he prefers. Forget puffy lips and implanted buttocks. This guy like the real thing.

It took this guy a string of unsuccessful dates to figure out exactly what he wanted: Real bodies. He suspects other guys feel the same way.

"This is the part I think women don't understand," says Olds in a Glamour magazine interview. "When a guy falls in love, his lover's body parts become bewitching. I'm not going to tell you that our heads don't turn when we see a stacked blond walking down the street. But when we fall for you -- really, really fall for you -- you hijack our sense of beautiful. What's sexy to us? You -- in the "before" picture."
