What's the big deal about a facial? I used to ask this question of my facial-fanatic friends until I had one myself. I imagine that anyone who has ever gone for a professional facial would agree that they're pretty great. Other than the extractions, pretty much everything about this ultimate pampering experience is fantastic.

Some facials are definitely better than others -- one in particular that sticks out for me included lower leg and foot, full arm, shoulder, neck and head massages during the normally fairly boring bit where they leave you to relax while the face mask sets -- but extra massage or no, pretty much any facial will be a worthwhile experience.

Fit Beauty: Yoga moves that'll help you shape your way to beauty

Is there anything yoga can't do? It tones, it strengthens, it stretches -- according to this past post by Rigel it may also help you find love (well for those who manage to avoid 'inappropriate yoga guy'). I was musing earlier today during my walk to work about all of the benefits I noticed when I was practicing yoga on a regular basis (I admit that for various reasons most of us who fall off the bandwagon would understand, it has been a while since I've been to a class). I remember feeling more limber, more energetic yet relaxed, and just generally had an enhanced feeling of well-being.

I began to wonder if yoga can also make you look good. I mean beyond the obvious tightening benefits, are there any yoga moves that will improve the shape of your body or perhaps improve the overall look of your face. Every time I used to leave yoga class I noticed that all of the participants, myself included, had a lovely glow about them. Was that just due to the excessive heat, sweating and exertion or could there be more to it?

Glowing, youthful skin tends to rate pretty high on the list of beauty must-haves for a lot of women. So you drink as much water as you can stomach and you pay for expensive moisturizers, but you've still got pimples and all that H2O means you're spending the greater part of your life in the toilet.

Ever wondered just how true all of that info on how to get great skin is? Me too. So without further ado, may I present you with 5 common skin care myths:

  • Vitamins make skin look healthy -- While taking vitamins may be great for your overall health, and while a healthy person usually has healthy-looking skin, just taking vitamins won't equal a gorgeous glow. A well-balanced diet is the way to go.
  • 8 glasses of water is great, 15 is better -- 8 glasses of water a day will keep you hydrated so your skin will look its best, however you still have to eat well. You can drink all the water you want but it's not going to help if you eat greasy fast food at every meal.
  • Expensive creams are the only way to go -- Spending a fortune on pricey skin creams does not equal healthy-looking skin. A doctor discussed in the article recommends Olay Regenerist and Provage, which you can get for about $20 at the drugstore.
  • Acne is just for teens -- Acne and pimples don't just strike teenagers; women in their 20s are just as likely to get hit with a zit. If you're well past your teens and suddenly have begun to break out, talk to a dermatologist about how to deal with it.
  • Lots of moisturizer makes skin look better-- Moisturizing all of the time can actually make your skin look worse if it's naturally oily, so avoid anything with the word oil in it. Talk to your dermatologist about what would work best for you.

In this 'information generation' that we live in, it's still amazing to me that anyone at all would go out in the sun specifically to tan/burn or actually pay to ingest tanning rays in a tanning bed. It just seems weird! We all know that even moderate exposure to UVA and UVB rays can cause skin cancer. And even if one doesn't end up with a fatal case of melanoma, the little scars you could end up with all over your body from having suspicious moles removed is pretty stressful. Wrinkly or splotchy skin follow in the delightful side effects category as well.

But don't get me wrong. I love a bronze body now and then too. I'm just not willing to suffer the consequences of achieving it the old-fashioned way. If you haven't tried sunless tanning lotions or spray tanning booths, give them a shot. Even if you have tried them before and weren't satisfied, go back and try some different varieties. They've come along way since the days when sunless tanning left orange stinky skin. I prefer Mystic Tanning, which allows me to stand in the buff all alone and achieve a completely bronze body with no funny lines. None! No one else has to 'do my back' and the process takes a total of 25 seconds. It's great!

There are many other options though. Sunless tanning products are available in every drug store, grocery store, and upscale department store. Some are cheap, some are expensive, but all of them are well worth the price. Just imagine how much chemotherapy would cost you!
