Daily Fit Tip: Flavor your water, naturally

Daily Fit Tip

That's Fit readers know the importance of staying hydrated. Sometimes, nothing is more refreshing than a tall, cold glass of water. But what about when you're looking for something with a little more...zing?

Rather than reach for something artificially flavored, try this: Cut up a lemon or lime into wedges and place the wedges into an ice cube tray. Fill with water and freeze. The next time you get thirsty, break out a few of these special ice cubes and put them in your water. Now you have a beverage that's inviting, with a hint of flavor, and with a touch of vitamin C!

Beware sneaky "diet" foods that really aren't

Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements

Beware of the sneaky diet foods that are looking to sabotage your diet! You'll be left clueless and frustrated why the pounds are creeping on, and that's never any fun. Some items that are often advertised as healthy and good weight loss choices aren't always -- ground turkey for example. Although turkey breast is a super lean choice, that's not what you're likely to get in a turkey burger. Instead dark turkey, and even turkey skin, is likely to shoot the fat and calorie content of that meat patty up so high you may have been better off with a steak.

Other common culprits included enhanced water, juice, and breakfast cereals. Does any of this surprise you? It really comes down to reading labels in the grocery store, and asking questions in restaurants before you order.

Quick fixes for your high-carb drinks

Nutrition & Supplements

If you're following a low-carb eating plan, liquids can be the enemy. Some of the tastiest drinks have tons of sugar -- and carbs. Some of the worst culprits are:
  • Lemonade
  • Iced coffee drinks
  • Hot chocolate
  • Flavored water
  • Soda
Fortunately, most drinks out there have a low-carb equivalent. To check them out, read the original article from eDiets.

My favorite low-carb drink is Iced Tea, home brewed and sweetened with just a touch of Splenda. Rooibos and peppermint teas are the tastiest if you ask me. What about you?
