How Fido Helps You Get Fit
Those of us with canine companions know that getting a dog is hard work -- but not only is it emotionally rewarding, having a dog helps you get fit too. Singer Fergie and her new husband Josh Duhamel know -- they're about to adopt a third pooch into their fur family. And obviously it's working for them. Yes, Fido helps you get fit, according to this article. And I believe it because here's the thing about having a dog -- you have to walk it. Which means you have to walk. Every day. I dog sat for a couple of months in the summer and it helped me get in even better shape because I had this gigantic ball of energy barrelling up and down hills that I had to follow.
I'm not saying you should get a dog just as an exercise device. But if a pooch is in the cards for you, don't fear the daily walks -- they'll do you a world of good.
Going for a hike? Let Fido carry a load
Diet & Weight Loss, Reviews & Products
When you head out on a hike, it's important to bring the essentials: Water, healthy snacks, sunscreen, warm layers and those 'just in case' safety items. But all that extra stuff can weigh you down after too long. Here's a handy item I read about on Fitsugar: Kelty Chuck Wagon Dog Pack. It is what it sounds like: A backpack for dogs. So instead of carrying everything yourself, let your lovable mutt do some of the lifting. The dog packs are available in small ($45), medium ($50) and large ($55) and they're bright red so you won't lose site of your pooch in the outdoors. The packs are lightweight and durable, and while your dog won't be able to carry everything you need to bring along on you hike, she'll be able to take at least a bit of the load off of you.

Holiday hazard: Dogs and chocolate
Recently, Bethany talked about protecting your pets during all the hubub of the holiday season. Visitors and general business can affect your pets profoundly, but there's another danger that you need to be wary of this holiday season: Chocolate. You've probably heard that Chocolate is deadly to pets, and it's true, so make sure you don't wrap any up for someone and put it under the tree -- fido could get ahold of it when you're not watching.
