FitBeauty: Tips for a fabulous face

Diet & Weight Loss, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements

In most parts of the U.S., the sun is starting to shine a little more brightly, encouraging us to come out and play. Not only does the warm weather get us all frisky and ready to tackle all kinds of fun outdoor activities -- a change of season is also a reminder to take a look at our current skincare routine to make sure we're still meeting our skin's needs.

It should go without saying, but I'm still going to say it -- first and foremost, make sure you're applying sunscreen every time you go outside. Hats and sunglasses will help protect your face from sun damage, too, but it's a good idea to get into the habit of applying a moisturizing sunscreen every morning.

The eyebrow theory

Womens Health, HealthWatch, Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment, Men's Health

The J.F.K. assassination. The whereabouts of Jimmy Hoffa. Causes of a major disease. What do all three have in common? Questionable theories to explain each of them. Leaving my own questionable theories out on the first two, I came across a theory on the third one -- related to a person's risk for developing diabetes.

While your eyes may be the window to your soul, your eyebrows apparently are the window to your health. That's because German scientists claim that eyebrow color may tell of a person's risk of diabetes. After examining the blood glucose levels of 100 men with gray hair, they found that those of them who had dark eyebrows, 76 percent had diabetes. This was compared against the mere 18 percent of men with gray eyebrows who had diabetes.

Doctors wonder if diabetes may delay the graying in the eyebrow follicles. They suggested that if your hair is turning gray but your eyebrows are still showing their more youthful colors, you may want to have your blood sugar tested.

Anyway, it's a theory. Then again, so is the idea that a single bullet can strike someone in the back of the head and...you know what, never mind.

New Year's Resolution: Get Great Eyebrows

It is officially the time of year to start really thinking about New Year's Resolutions. While many people will vow to lose 20lbs, quit smoking and/or drinking, or start working out on a regular basis, I like to stick with something much smaller, simpler and -- let's face it -- easier.

While all of the aforementioned resolutions are very worthwhile, I think it's tough to decide to do any of those things just because it's the new year and everyone else is making plans to change their habits immediately following the holiday-binge season. So I think it's a great idea to stick with something less complex and work your way up to resolutions that are tougher to keep and need some serious willpower.
