France won't applaud extreme thinness

Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment, Reviews & Products

Maggie told us on April 11 that France lawmakers were considering a ban on the promotion of ultra skinniness. Well, they considered it. They pursued it. And yesterday, they passed a groundbreaking bill that would make it illegal for anyone, including advertisers, fashion magazines, and web sites, to publicly incite extreme thinness. The bill goes to the Senate in the next few weeks.

If passed, this law would be the strongest of its kind anywhere. It's getting some strong support. Some say encouraging severe weight loss, which can lead to eating disorders -- and contributed to the 2006 death of one Brazilian model -- should be punishable by law. It's also being met with strong opposition. Those involved with French couture don't like that boundaries may be placed on beauty standards.

Regardless of the outcome of this bill, French lawmakers and fashion industry leaders did sign last week a non-binding charter to promote healthier body images. A step in the right direction. But is it enough?

Lance Armstrong: Retired and running, but why?

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

After winning the Tour de France seven times, Lance Armstrong is certainly worthy of a relaxing retirement. However, that doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Since his retirement, the 35-year-old has found himself constantly on the road, promoting LiveStrong Challenges, the Lance Armstrong Foundation for cancer research, joining with Nike and Apple to publicize his involvement in their partnership, and trying to be home to spend time with his kids. Still, his crazy schedule hasn't stopped him from running marathons.

Lipstick Jungle actress gets body back

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Lipstick Jungle's Kim Raver had a baby in October. Six months later, she's back in tip-top shape.

What's the star's secret? Running after baby Leo's five-year-old brother, Luke, eating well, working 16 hour days, nursing, and yes, exercising.

Raver has been taking "thigh-kicking" courses called Physique 57. Touted as the most effective workout system in New York City with the power to rapidly transform bodies, Physique 57 is a cardiovascular program of isometric exercises and orthopedic stretches. It tones the seat, abdominals, thighs and arms; strengthens the legs and back; and improves posture to produce a beautiful, sexy body.

If Raver's post-baby body serves as a testimonial for Physique 57, I'd say it's a system that works.
