He's sculpted the world's most beautiful A-list stars -- from Halle Berry, John Mayer and Eva Mendez to Jessica Simpson, Alicia Keyes and Orlando Bloom -- and his practical, can-do approach to nutrition and fitness transforms lives one at a time.

Canadian-native Harley Pasternak now resides full-time in Los Angeles after nearly 10 years of traveling on movie sets with various A-list celebs. With degrees in exercise physiology and expertise in nutrition and kinesiology, Pasternak is arguably the world's most sought-after personal trainer. Pasternak says his anyone-can-do exercise approach and nutrition strategies will help you maintain a lean body weight, tackle excess body fat and -- most important -- keep you inspired to train consistently for life.

Pasternak has opened a very private training studio for his clients in West Hollywood, far from the prying eyes of the paparazzi, and he has finished writing his third health and fitness book called "Five Factor Fitness: The World Diet" (Random House 2010), where he explores the 10 healthiest countries in the world and how we Americans can adopt some of their optimal eating practices.

That's Fit: Do you still motivate and inspire other huge stars on the sets of their films?

Harley Pasternak: Absolutely. Right now, the Five Factor team of trainers and nutritionists are working on eight or nine films around the world. We go in and talk to craft services about the five lean and balanced meals our clients require on a daily basis, and we design a portable gym for many clients. I will actually stock their trailers with healthy snacks while my team travels with them -- we're all very busy. I took a lot of time to not only write this last book on the healthiest eating habits around the world, but I also feel very strongly that anyone -- not only celebrities -- can lose weight, boost energy and get fit on my simple anyone-can-do program.

Food for thought from high-energy celebs

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

Ever wonder how celebrities do it -- keep up their busy work schedules, appear at all the latest, greatest parties and red carpet events, promote their personal causes and charity endeavors, and not lose all their marbles? Seems diet and exercise have something to do with it. Here, four stars weigh in on their high-energy tricks.

  • Whoopi Goldberg stays energized by making healthy food and taking it wherever she goes to minimize temptation. While eating at someone else's house, she asks for very small portions. Good idea -- eating too much always weighs me down and makes me feel sluggish.
  • Daniel Craig keeps up his strength by going to the gym every night when shooting Bond movies. He does as many of his own stunts too. His reward once shooting is over: Lying on a chaise lounge. Hey, relaxation is part of the whole feel-good package, right?
  • Eva Mendes stays on top of things by running and keeping white flour and sugar out of her diet. It helps her feel better about herself.
  • Gerard Butler just likes a good challenge. Give him one and he's invigorated.

Eva Mendes eats crap, still looks good

Celebs & Entertainment

She may be committed to fitness, but overall, she doesn't have the healthiest habits. Eva Mendes recently revealed that despite her svelte figure, she's not adamant about watching what she eats. Says the gorgeous starlet: "I'd shock you at how much I could eat. Any kind of dessert is fantastic. It's gross, but I also love cup noodles. I'll eat two at a time because the salt really does it for me. They're so cheap so they can't be that good for you, but they're yummy!"

Mendes, 34, adds that the only time she is careful about eating well and exercising is when she is filming: "f I have a shoot I'll work out more and watch what I eat, but if I don't I'll let myself go. I'm addicted to bread. I want it constantly so, right now, I'm letting myself have more of it but when I start my next movie I'll cut down."

Why does she rely on junk food? Mendes also admitted that she is a terrible cook -- so bad, in fact, that she's given up trying to prepare meals.

Eva Mendes is consistently fit

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Eva Mendes has some fitness advice just for you: Be consistent.

Consistency is key, says the actress who gets her workout inspiration from celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak -- he helps her consistently sculpt her calves by climbing stairs, consistently tone her abs with seated side bends and crunches, and consistently strengthen her lower body with dumbbell deadlifts.

The key for us non-celebrity types is to stay consistent without the aid of an expensive trainer. Think you can do it? Health.com offers some motivating tips.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Round-Up: August 8, 2008

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Roundup, Celebs & Entertainment

Some of us have trouble coughing up the dough for a gym membership or a session with a personal trainer, but that's not a problem for the rich and famous. Britney Spears reportedly spent an exorbitant amount to get her body back in shape. But, it seems to have worked ...

Ugly Betty's Becki Newton always looks flawless on the red carpet, favoring sleeveless gowns (doesn't everybody?). We've got her favorite trick for getting her arms red carpet-ready right here.

Eva Mendes was the star of a too-hot-for-TV ad for Calvin Klein's latest fragrance, Secret Obsession, and she shows a lot of skin. She made some changes to get her body ready to bare, and they're changes we could all make even if we don't have any plans to get naked.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: How Eva Mendes got ready for her CK photoshoot

I've been seeing a lot of Eva Mendes lately, I suppose because there's been a lot of her to see -- she showed a lot of skin in a recent issue of Vogue Italia, and in her (too-hot-for-TV) ads for Calvin Klein's latest fragrance, Secret Obsession, she continues the trend.

There's no disputing that she looks amazing, but it didn't come without work, and she's sharing some of her secrets.

The actress says she respects her body more, and treats it like a temple. That probably made her diet and exercise changes a bit easier. Leading up to the shoot, Eva incorporated more cardio and said, "You want to stay away from bread, carbonation ... and you don't want to eat Chinese food, as delicious as it is. That's like, serious bloating!"

Eva Mendes likes junk food

Celebs & Entertainment

Few can deny that Eva Mendes is incredibly gorgeous and many would give their left arm to look like her. And unfortunately, she's one of those people, those stunning celebrities with perfect bodies who annoyingly insist that they eat junk food all the time -- and it's all down to good genes that keep them from getting fat. Here's what Eva has to say about her favourite indulgence:

Mmmmm, tacos and french fries and milkshakes. Sounds delicious ... and deadly to us normal people. Whether you believe that she actually eats that or not, it's frustrating for those of us who just have to look at a piece of cake to gain weight. But it must be nice to be her, right?

Celeb diet philosophies: Which do you agree with most?

Celebs & Entertainment

In this celeb-obsessed world,we're always interest to know what celebrities think of everything, from politics to war to other celebrities and everything in between. So it's no surprised that we're also keen to know they're eating and exercise habits, especially since they all seem to be so svelte.

So when I saw this quiz from Fit Sugar asking which celebrity diet philosophy I agree with, I had to see which celeb I identified with most when it comes to healthy living. Turns out its Scarlett Johansson, who says, "I'm not really the type of girl who goes jogging at 6 a.m., but I eat well and I walk a lot." I also agree with Gwen Stefani, who says "It's simple math: You put this much food in, you burn that much working out."

Which celebrity do you identify with?
