Fit Gadgets: ElliptiGO Glide Bike
Have you ever been at the gym, kicking butt on the elliptical, only to look outside and see a perfect, gorgeous day that you're missing because you're in a gym? Or, do you like the idea of biking for fun, fitness, or transportation, but have less love for some of the things that come with biking (seat pain, hunched over position, catching on chain, etc.)? If so, you might want to get on the wait list for the elliptiGO Glide Bike. The elliptiGO is a cross between a bike and an elliptical trainer, "combining the best aspects of running and cycling to create a fun and effective means of exercising outdoors." Since you're in a standing position while riding it, you have increased visibility and a distinct lack of pain in the genitals (because, be honest -- how many of you have opted out of a long bike ride because you knew how bad your privates would hurt afterward? I'm always amazed that true cyclists can ever have sex!).
It's easily modifiable, so you can go at your own pace using your own stride. There are eight gears, allowing you to work really hard and go as fast as 25 mph, or cruise along at closer to 6mph.
Listen to your machine to get a better workout
I've got my treadmill workout down to a science. Hop on, warm-up, get up to speed, do a couple of hills, and....I'm done (after a cool down, of course). But falling into an exercise rut, like the one I seem to be stuck in, isn't the best way to build fitness. Your body can adapt to your regular exercise routine, causing you to plateau and make your workouts ineffective.
One way to make sure you're challenging yourself at the gym is to keep an eye on the display on your exercise machine. Whether you're on a bike, treadmill, or elliptical, you have your own little electronic personal trainer of sorts right in front of you. By making best use of the little device, you can tweak your workout to challenge you to do your best. Women's Health has broken the code of those little display boxes, and tell us here what to look for while we're working out.

Fitku: Staying Power
Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Motivation
While pseudo-running on my elliptical today, I was overcome with the inspiration for a Fitku:Heart pounds, muscles strain
Breath comes in rhythmic panting
Oh, my aching knees
But did I quit? Oh, no. I stayed on that elliptical trainer for my full five minutes . . .
