Diet Like You're Dancing With the Stars

Diet & Weight Loss

Denise Richards on DWTS
From Cheryl Burke's perfect back to Edyta Sliwinska's legs that go for days, it's not terribly surprising that the professional dancers on "Dancing With the Stars" have rocking bodies. But what I love to see on the show are the celebs who shed pounds and really get in shape while quick stepping and fox trotting.

Most of the celebrities on the show are still keeping up with their other jobs. When Cameron Mathison was on the show, he was flying from west coast to east coast in order to be on DWTS and "All My Children." So how do the stars keep up with the rigorous training schedule and still find time to give their bodies the proper fuel?

Many of the celebs rely on a food delivery service called Freshology. Lil' Kim loves the convenience of the calorie-controlled meals. Past DWTS contestants and Freshology customers include Melanie Brown, Mario Lopez, Marlee Matlin, Laila Ali and Stacy Kiebler. Long before she donned the skimpy DWTS costumes, Denise Richards used the program to shed her pregnancy weight. Even host Samantha Harris has used Freshology's programs to look great in front of the camera.

You might not be dancing on TV, but would you use a food delivery service?

Sherri Shepherd Wants to Dance

Celebs & Entertainment

Sherri ShepherdThe new season of Dancing With the Stars will air on March 9th. So now the question is ... which stars will show us their moves? We love watching the stars get fit and improve their dance moves during the course of the season ... it's like boot camp with sequins and heels.

Sherri Shepherd, co-host of The View, is a possibility. InTouch magazine reports that ABC is interested in having Shepherd on the show, and Shepherd is on board with that idea. But the funny lady sounds as interested in the dancers as in dancing. Shepherd said "Oh, my goodness! I am so in love with Maksim [Chmerkovskiy], but he's engaged! And Tony Dovolani's married! I mean, they're all freakin' taken! I just want to get a 'pas doble' with somebody on that show!"

Rumor has it that Stevie Wonder is also in consideration.

Paulina Porizkova Shares Her Fitness Tips

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Paulina PorizkovaI'll admit it. I'm an America's Next Top Model junkie. I'm not proud, but there you have it. While Twiggy was sweet and utterly likable as a judge, I have to admit that I prefer Paulina Porizkova behind the table. She's honest and doesn't hedge around when a photo isn't good.

Porizkova, 43, earned her spot behind the ANTM desk; she started her own modeling career in 1980 and is arguably one of the most successful models of all time. Porizkova also appeared on the fourth season of Dancing With the Stars -- an experience she says got her into the best shape of her life.

Porizkova chatted with Everyday Health about her fitness routine. She said she started exercising regularly after she quit smoking and gained a few pounds. She likes to take fitness classes such as karate and says that exercise has improved her mood as much as her body.

Marissa Jaret Winokur Wants You to Dance Your Butt Off

Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment

Marissa Jaret WinokurAfter strutting her stuff on Dancing With the Stars, Marissa Jaret Winokur is going to put a new spin on dancing. Winokur is scheduled to host Oxygen's new weight-loss program, Dance Your A** Off. (You know what the asterisks are in place of, right?)

Dancing is a great way to shed those extra pounds. It's undeniably fun -- and fun is a key ingredient for motivation. Dancing With the Stars -- while certainly not intended for weight loss -- has had its fair share of weight loss success stories. It's pretty inspiring when you see celebs with a little extra padding tone up and slim down by the end of the season.

Want to try to boogie those pounds off at home? Check out this post for some suggestions for dance fitness DVDs.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy denies calling Dancing with The Stars dancers fat

Celebs & Entertainment

Makxim ChmerkovskiyRecently, we told you about two male Dancing With the Stars dancers, Louis van Amstel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, calling out two of the female dancers on their weight. Chmerkovskiy is stepping forward to say that his comments were taken out of context.

Chmerkovskiy says: "I never criticized Cheryl or Lacey" (speaking of his fellow dancers Cheryl Burke and Lacey Schwimmer). Chmerkovskiy says he merely was commenting on how extra weight can take a toll on the body.

It sounds like Chmerkovskiy's comments took a toll on his fan base. He says he's received emails "telling (him) to go back to his country." Wow. That's unduly harsh -- particularly considering Chmerkovskiy's comments, even taken out of context, weren't that insulting to begin with.

Chmerkovskiy has made amends with Cheryl Burke and has reached out to Lacey Schwimmer as well.

DWTS men say these women are overweight

Celebs & Entertainment

Jacki told us a little while ago that Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke had packed on a few pounds. Burke admits to gaining a few over the summer, but she's a size four, for goodness sake. While the body bar might be raised higher for professional dancers, it seems like Burke is getting a lot of flack for a minor issue.

Now two of the male dancers, Louis van Amstel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, are calling out Burke and fellow dancer Lacey Schwimmer on their weight. While van Amstel understands that it was easy to gain weight over the summer (the dancers didn't have a summer tour this year), he says that they "have to deal with the consequences." The slightly more forgiving Chmerkovskiy says "Guys, you know the camera adds 10 pounds ... you have to do something about this."

van Amstel is concerned about how Burke's and Schwimmer's weight will affect the audience. He says "[People] look at this show to be inspired and think, 'If I just work hard enough, I can look like that.' If they watch someone who's dancing her butt off and she's still heavy, they can be discouraged."

I don't know about you, but I don't look at Burke or Schwimmer -- both gorgeous, fit, and talented women -- and feel discouraged. But van Amstel's comment does inspire me a little ... it inspires me never to work with Louis van Amstel.

Is Dancing with the Stars pro getting fat?

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

It's official. Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke is fat, announces this blogger, who shares photos of an apparently curvier Burke in a pretty skimpy bikini and cautions that while it's pretty obvious Burke has put on a few pounds, Hollywood fat is not exactly regular-people fat.

According to this blog, Burke, 24, sometimes does gain weight. When she's dancing on the show, she works her butt off. When she's on hiatus, she indulges -- chips and guacamole are favorites. Still, she's healthy. Still, she's a size four. Fat? I don't think so. Her DWTS pals agree -- they told co-host and E! News gal Samantha Harris that Burke is extremely sexy and beautiful.

Burke herself says she did in fact gain some weight over the summer -- her whole story will soon appear in PEOPLE magazine -- but all the mocking she's encountering has left her in tears. In the words of Burke's dancing friends who speak to the masses about their weight watching: Lay off!

Sienna Miller boogies her way into shape

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Dancing is definitely one hot exercise trend. Just check out the following Dancing with the Stars celebrities who get to tango, twist, and transform their bodies this season.

Actress Sienna Miller won't be parading around on stage with this crew but dancing is what she says keeps her petite frame long and lean. High-energy dance workouts at Studio Soma in West Hollywood keep her on the move. She especially likes the Cardio Boogie class -- a session designed for non-dancers, with a mix of hip-hop, disco, belly dancing and more. It's all prep for an upcoming movie role.

You might not be headed for the TV dance stage or a movie role, but dancing could be just the thing you need to tighten, firm, and shape from head to toe.

Sleep and water keep Kim Kardashian thin

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

I can't wait to read the whole story -- all I have is a little scoop right now -- but the other night on some entertainment TV show, I heard that Kim Kardashian is claiming a good night's sleep and a lot of water keep her thin and trim. Yes, sleep is good and may even have a slimming side effect. Yes, water is good too -- it apparently revs up the metabolism. The two together: No doubt, a mighty force in all things health-related. Enough to battle the bulge all on their own, though? Not quite.

Now, maybe Kardashian is doing everything else right -- eating well, exercising well -- and these are just two components of her overall healthy life. But the girl has admitted she loves junk food, and she just plain refuses to diet. And even though she's kicked her butt into high gear during her Dancing with the Stars training, I think we're missing something. Sleep. Water. That's just not enough. What else is this girl doing to look so hot?

If you know, do tell. If I find out, I'll share.

Dancing star swaps pizza for fruit

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

Cody Linley and Julianne Hough
Did you watch the Dancing With the Stars season premiere last night? I couldn't watch all of it, as it falls right during my son's bedtime. But I did catch a few dances, including Cody Linley and Julianne Hough's cha-cha. Linley, an 18-year-old actor, is the youngest star to show off his footwork on DWTS so far. While he admitted his concentration wavers because of his dancing partner's "hotness," Linley managed a relatively solid first-week performance.

Linley, who has appeared on Hannah Montana and is starring in the upcoming Hardy Boys movie, may attribute some of his success to a change in diet. He says he's swapped his Cap'n Crunch and frozen pizza for foods like fruit and health bars. The nutritional change gives him the added energy he needs to hoof his way through DWTS practice sessions and performances.

I'm sure his partner, two-time DWTS champ Julianne Hough, can give him some fitness and nutrition pointers.

Kim Kardashian gets butt in gear for DWTS

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Kim Kardashian has vowed to eat better -- she loves junk food -- but she just can't seem to shake her bad eating habits. Even boyfriend Reggie Bush has been pushing her to take better care of her famous body. What will it take for Kardashian to get her butt in gear? Training for Dancing with the Stars, that's what.

Kardashian is already in rigorous rehearsals for the show, and she hopes it's going to do her prized "booty" some good. She wants to firm it up, shape it up, tone it up. And she wants to sport the sexy thing in dance costumes that show a little skin. The better shape she's in, the more risqué her attire will get. Her first outfit is not so crazy -- it's just a ball gown, elegant and a little bit more covered up -- but it shouldn't be long before she's baring more and more. She's dancing eight hours a day with pro partner Mark Ballas and already, she's noticing changes in her figure.

Stay tuned. Dancing with the Stars premieres live on ABC at September 22 at 8 PM.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Round-up: August 29, 2008

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Roundup, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements

Jennifer Love Hewitt might have a body that many of us envy, but she sees a big difference between her body now and when she was younger. She even went so far as to say she wishes she had been nude from 12 to 28!

Pregnancy is tough on all bodies, and Laila Ali had a concern that many moms to be experience -- she was afraid that, since she was already a "big girl," that pregnancy would make her huge! That's not exactly the case, though -- check out how she's handling pregnancy right here.

If you're not watching Burn Notice on Thursday nights, you're missing out. Not just because it's action-packed and witty, but because Gabrielle Anwar plays one kick-ass character. To get ready for the role, she made a few changes to her diet, and many other celebs have made similar dietary changes.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Misty May-Treanor joins DWTS cast

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

See you later, Kerri Walsh -- it looks like beach volleyball superstar Misty May-Treanor will be trying out a new partner ... at least for this season's Dancing With the Stars. She's not only content to be the winningest beach volleyball female of all time, or to have two beach volleyball gold medals -- she wants to be the best dancer, too!

I'm a little biased, since I'm a huge fan of Misty to begin with, but I have to say this is the most excited I've been for DWTS. While I enjoy seeing celebrities out there dancing, I like watching the athletes on the show even more. Seeing people with quick feet on the court or field translate that talent to dancing footwork is fascinating, and is a big reminder that athleticism comes in many forms.

Misty will be joined by fellow gold medal winner Maurice Greene, a sprinter, and retired football player Warren Sapp, along with Brooke Burke, Kim Kardashian, Susan Lucci, and others. Will you be tuning in?
