Cutting a "hunger nerve" spurs weight loss?
Need to lose weight and have an existing ulcer? Oddly enough, an ulcer operation is making headlines again as a possible obesity treatment. How so, you ask? Well, "cutting a nerve" that assists in controlling hunger -- and which is part of an older type of ulcer operation -- has crept back up for a possible treatment in obesity. The "vagus" nerve that helps control and limit hunger is being brought in as an alternative to stomach stapling and intestinal re-routing, but may not be as effective as cutting down hunger as those operations result in.
But, is that needed even? Partial hunger control is a good thing for many overweight folks teetering on obese levels that may not need a major surgery to get that weight under control. What do you think?
