Kevin Federline to Join Dancing With the Stars?

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

kevin federlineGot a big ol' boulder of salt handy? Good -- take this news with it. Star magazine is reporting that Kevin Federline is looking to join Dancing With the Stars.

Now, he was a backup dancer at one point, so he might actually be pretty good on the show. And the contestants tend to drop a lot of weight -- something he could really stand to do. However, there's one problem -- aren't you supposed to actually be, you know, a star?

Sounds like that workout DVD isn't working out, but let's hope K-Fed starts working out anyway. Rumor has it he'll be following his ex, Britney, while she's on tour, so perhaps her rockin' new bod will inspire him to bust a move of his own. Even if he's not being filmed or getting paid to do it.

DWTS men say these women are overweight

Celebs & Entertainment

Jacki told us a little while ago that Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke had packed on a few pounds. Burke admits to gaining a few over the summer, but she's a size four, for goodness sake. While the body bar might be raised higher for professional dancers, it seems like Burke is getting a lot of flack for a minor issue.

Now two of the male dancers, Louis van Amstel and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, are calling out Burke and fellow dancer Lacey Schwimmer on their weight. While van Amstel understands that it was easy to gain weight over the summer (the dancers didn't have a summer tour this year), he says that they "have to deal with the consequences." The slightly more forgiving Chmerkovskiy says "Guys, you know the camera adds 10 pounds ... you have to do something about this."

van Amstel is concerned about how Burke's and Schwimmer's weight will affect the audience. He says "[People] look at this show to be inspired and think, 'If I just work hard enough, I can look like that.' If they watch someone who's dancing her butt off and she's still heavy, they can be discouraged."

I don't know about you, but I don't look at Burke or Schwimmer -- both gorgeous, fit, and talented women -- and feel discouraged. But van Amstel's comment does inspire me a little ... it inspires me never to work with Louis van Amstel.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Mary Murphy dropped 3 dress sizes in 3 months

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

If you watched last week's finale of So You Think You Can Dance, you were probably as impressed as I was with Mary Murphy when she got out from behind the judges' table and did a hot ballroom dance with Season Two's Dmitry Chaplin (who, as I had hoped/expected, opened his shirt at the end -- man I've missed him!).

At 39 years old, Mary showed that she not only still had the moves, but the lady's got a body! And, apparently, that body is courtesy of doing the Core Rhythms program (a dance workout incorporating lots of Latin movements) every day. Mary lost 30 pounds in three months, dropping from a size 14 to a size 8.

She's also following a healthful diet, eating lots of veggies, chicken, and Egg Beaters. She's thrilled with her new body, and with the fact that she can wear short dresses again.

Get fit: Hit the barre!

Fitness

Looking to incorporate a new kind of workout into your routine? Head to the barre -- the ballet-barre, that is! Celebs like Kelly Ripa go to ballet-barre classes, which include thigh-toning, ballet-inspired exercises along with ab work like you'd do in Pilates.

Unfortunately, not all gyms offer ballet-barre classes, but that doesn't mean you're out of luck. Try these exercises from Health.com to sculpt strong, lean, beautiful legs. You just might find some muscles you didn't even know you had!

If the idea of dance as fitness really appeals to you, do some searching around your town. Dance studios sometimes have adult-beginner classes, or will do private/small group lessons. And don't count out your local YMCA -- there are always new dance programs popping up there, so go ahead and raise the barre!

Mario Lopez flexes his musical (and manly) muscles on Broadway

Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Mario Lopez showed the world he could do a little dancing on Dancing With the Stars, but who expected this? Our beloved former A.C. Slater has taken his act to Broadway, joining the cast of A Chorus Line!

Mario will be playing Zach (no, not a nod to his former Saved By The Bell BFF, Zack Morris), a demanding director in charge of casting the chorus roles for a new musical on Broadway. He debuts this Tuesday, so you'd better get your tickets fast -- if these promo pictures are any indication, this is going to be one hot show!

Or, at the very least, Mario will be looking hot, and that's enough for some of us. I'd have to say Broadway agrees with him. Wouldn't you? Check out the gallery for proof!

Celebrity Fitzness Report: Sam Moran of The Wiggles

Womens Health, Celebrities and Entertainment, Healthy Kids, Celebrity Fitzness Report, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

This week's featured celebrity is Sam Moran of the Australian band The Wiggles. Yes. The yellow Wiggle. Sam's been working with The Wiggles since 1998, when he began hosting the "Dorothy the Dinosaur Show" (a live tour). Since then, he's appeared in many Wiggly DVDs and on the Playhouse Disney series as Professor Singalottasonga and Dapper Dave. In 2006, Sam became the clear choice to replace the original yellow Wiggle Greg Page who had to retire due to a health condition. Having already understudied for Greg in over 150 live shows, this classically trained singer was ready to take the stage as lead vocalist for the group.

I recently returned from a trip to interview and do some fitness training with The Wiggles regarding: their fitness habits and their mission to promote health and fitness to children. With that, I had the pleasure of enjoying one of their live shows. Sam is awesome. I was a fan of Greg, and up until this point had not seen Sam perform in the yellow skivvy. He was flawless. Beautiful voice, fun performance, and great stage presence. In person, he came off as a 'regular guy'. Someone you'd expect to meet at a ball game. Pleasant, polite and really just excited to be doing what he loves to do. Like many, Sam seems to still be trying to figure out his perfect fitness philosophy. Definitely someone the world can identify with.

Fitz: What is your fitness routine like?

Sam: With all the traveling we do, it tends to be less of a routine and more of whatever I can, whenever I can.

Fitz: What's on your MP3 player?

Sam: Every piece of music I own is on my iPod. 40GB of music, that ranges from classical music to R&B, to Hard Rock and everything in between. You never know what you are going to feel like.

Fitz: You're the new yellow Wiggle. How's it going?

Sam: It is going fantastically. The audiences have been so supportive and wonderful. It's been so much easier for me to transition into the role when the audience has been so welcoming. I have spoken to families that say "Welcome to OUR family!" simply because The Wiggles are a huge part of their everyday family life, and that feels very special.

Fitz: Do you have a fall-back healthy meal?Something you eat when trying to progress physically?

Sam: Salads really. No dressing though. I always find that if you add enough healthy/tasty ingredients to a salad, then it doesn't need dressing.

Fitz: What is your favorite sin food?

Sam: Probably pizza or white chocolate.
