Jennifer Love Hewitt might have a body that many of us envy, but she sees a big difference between her body now and when she was younger. She even went so far as to say she wishes she had been nude from 12 to 28!Pregnancy is tough on all bodies, and Laila Ali had a concern that many moms to be experience -- she was afraid that, since she was already a "big girl," that pregnancy would make her huge! That's not exactly the case, though -- check out how she's handling pregnancy right here.
If you're not watching Burn Notice on Thursday nights, you're missing out. Not just because it's action-packed and witty, but because Gabrielle Anwar plays one kick-ass character. To get ready for the role, she made a few changes to her diet, and many other celebs have made similar dietary changes.
The elusive Triple Crown triathlon
Triathletes are an entirely different breed from swimmers, cyclists and runners training specifically for a single sport. They may never perform their best ... simultaneously.
Is it possible to record your best times in all three legs of a triathlon in one race? Experts say no. Training for one leg of a triathlon can undermine another leg, making a peak performance sweep pretty impossible. The training required for a best time in running may compromise the fitness required to score a peak performance in cycling. Body musculature alone is markedly different for a swimmer versus a runner versus a cyclist.
Triathletes may have to settle for imperfection, but the benefits of cross training can offset that ever-elusive all-in-one Triple Crown Triathlon. The inherent diversity of triathlon training can be a lot more fun, prevent injury in the middle-age athlete and lead to swifter recovery in between training sessions. Besides, you get three chances to score a personal best!
A 4 minute cross-training machine???
This is ridiculous. It's a cross-training exercise machine that claims to give you an awesome workout in just 4 minutes a day. I guess people with money will buy anything! It's the ROM machine and it's being billed as a 4 minute cross trainer. It supposedly works by exercising 55% of the body's muscles at one time, or 465 calories in 4 minutes. Is that even possible? Sounds a little dangerous to me, and the phrase "if it sounds too good to be true..." comes to mind. Plus the price tag is definitely not too good to be true, at $15,000 I think I'll stick with something I'm sure will work.

Each week, Debbie will share her goals, challenges, successes and tips on how to fit in fitness when caring for a rambunctious toddler.A few weeks ago, I asked readers for some ideas on how to add more variety to my outdoor routine, which consisted of only walking on the street or hiking / running the trails near my house.
I received some helpful comments and suggestions. Adding jumping jacks and using playground equipment while walking and running reminded me that there is actually a fitness trail in my town. We have a lovely paved track with stations along the way for different kinds of interval training, like monkey bars, sit-ups, pull-ups and the like. Plus, Owen loves to ride his tricycle around the track. Sounds like a perfect outing for at least once a week.
Another reader mentioned an intriguing concept you can read more about at Flexibility for Athletes. Basically, it is a way to use your breathing to enhance your workouts, helping you to get more out of your workouts in a shorter period of time. I'm not quite there yet, but it may be something I check out when I am ready to fine tune my workouts. At this point, I am lucky if I can get out the door!
As I was basking in the sun at my parents' pool last weekend, it occurred to me that I could be swimming in it instead of floating on a raft. Who would have thought? I am actually excited about the idea of using the pool for good, not evil, and since my parents live in town, it should be easy for Owen and I to make a visit there at least once a week.

Each week, Debbie will share her goals, challenges, successes and tips on how to fit in fitness when caring for a rambunctious toddler.I am in the groove . . .
I feel I have got so much of this fitness thing under control. I am faithful to my four muscle groups of strength training every morning, and I have been fitting in four yoga poses daily as well. I have been walking outside while pushing Owen in the stroller, or leaving him with my husband and hiking the trails with the dog, about three times per week.
I even have some indoor options, for when the weather is bad or when I can squeeze out some exercise time while Owen naps: various yoga DVDs and a treadmill.
But here is where I feel my fitness routine lacking -- outdoor variety. Don't get me wrong, I love my brisk walks and hikes, but I am being mindful of "surprising" my body by doing lots of different types of exercise, so I want to mix it up a bit.
Here are my thoughts . . .
- There is no way I am ever going to get myself on a bike. I haven't been, in fact, since I got my driver's license!
- I would love to find a place to row, but seeing as I am trying to fit things in quickly and easily, rowing is unfortunately prohibitive.
- I am toying with the idea of HIIT training, but I worry that I am not in good enough shape to do this yet.
So, does anyone have any ideas for me about how to mix things up with my outdoor workouts?
