Blast cellulite while you sleep?

Reviews & Products

I love Sephora, but you have to be cautious about some of their products. For instance? Bliss FatGirlSleep cream promises to get rid of cellulite while you're sleeping. No, seriously. It's not the first time such claims have been issued and I'm sure it won't be the last. Regardless, it's all a bunch of baloney, and at $38 for 6 oz, it's expensive baloney.

Hot dogs and other healthy summer kid food

Healthy Kids, Nutrition & Supplements

Summer is the perfect time for hot dogs at the family BBQ, big pretzels at the county fair, and cold treats straight from the ice cream truck. Although these foods can be less-than-perfect options for our kids who love them so -- think lots of salt, sugar, and fat -- WedMD says they can be not so bad, really. Check them out.

  • Nachos & Quesadillas
  • Hamburgers & Hot Dogs
  • Ice Cream
  • Frozen Yogurt
  • Waffles and pancakes
  • Marshmallows
  • Popcorn
  • Watermelon

Hot dogs? Healthy? I never thought so. Try light and reduced-fat dogs and you'll be OK, says Sarah Krieger, an American Dietetic Association (ADA) spokeswoman.

How to eat healthy at Walt Disney World

Sounds impossible, doesn't it? Who in the world ever thought of going to Disney and eating healthy? Crazy talk, right? Wrong! Your loving online Fitzness Expert (me) who has extremely high standards on what I put in both my children's mouth and my own can spend a day at the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT and eat as well as I would in my own home. Disney has made grand efforts to improve the healthfulness of the foods they offer, and has even gone overboard with an abundance of fresh fruit stands located throughout each theme park.

I just spent a week at Walt Disney World in Florida and returned home half a pound less than I was the day before vacation. Want to eat right while enjoying the magic with Mickey Mouse? Read on.

  • Mickey makes mealtime easy on the fitness fan. Every restaurant I ventured through offered several menu options based on lean grilled meat, veggies, and/or fruit. Even the children's meals come standard with side items like: grapes, carrot sticks, and unsweetened applesauce. They also come with bottled water or skim milk. Sweet! Parents would have to go out of their way to substitute french fries and soda for their children instead of the healthy stuff. Eww! You the fitness fan, certainly wouldn't do that!
  • Sit down dining restaurants offer Egg Beaters cooked without oil in lieu of regular scrambled eggs. I enjoyed this perk while dining with Minnie and Goofy at Disney's Yacht Club Resort.
  • Resort dining facilities offer endless refrigerators full of fresh fruit, veggies, yogurt, dried fruit, nutritious snack bars and more.
  • Seek out healthier desserts. Anywhere they are served, Disney has made efforts to make reduced fat, low sugar or fresh fruit treats available.

Walt Disney World: The healthiest place on earth?

Healthy Aging, Healthy Habits, Healthy Places, Natural Beauty, Organic, Stress Reduction, Vegetarian, Womens Health, HealthWatch, Healthy Recipes, Celebrities and Entertainment, Healthy Kids, Healthy Products and Reviews, Cellulite, Obesity, Healthy Events, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Reviews & Products, Motivation, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health

In my expert opinion, yes! Disney World is the healthiest place on earth. I just returned from a five-night, six-day vacation with my husband and two children and was blown away by the amount of physical activity both offered and required of ourselves in order to indulge in the full Disney experience.

We pushed our double-stroller miles through two theme parks, climbed thousands of stairs and jumped an equal amount of waves at two water-parks, danced our tushies off to live bands at various Disney resorts, and played game after game with our children as we giggled, oohed and ahhed at all the Disney magic. As a fitness trainer, one of my biggest obstacles is convincing my clients not to trash their fitness efforts when they head out on vacation. Disney offers the perfect opportunity to not only maintain one's fitness level, but improve it.

The physical adventures are endless, and Disney World has made a deliberate effort to increase the availability of legitimately nutritious, low fat, and lower sugar foods. Fruit stands have popped up all over the theme parks, and children's dining has switched from burgers and fries to grilled chicken with carrots and grapes offered as side dishes. Soda has been dumped for low fat milk! I can't get food that "clean" in my own neighborhood, unless I cook it myself! Of course, the old junkie favorites like popcorn, fries, and ice cream are still available, but if you do care about your health and want to maintain it on vacation ... Disney makes it easy.

How Many Calories ... in an Iced Cappuccino?

How Many Calories?

I'm a major coffee fanatic, but when the weather is hot, I find myself craving something cooler than a big, hot, steaming cup of java. And what fills that kind of void better than an iced cappuccino? Nothing, if you ask me. They're cool, delicious, with just the right amount of creaminess and coffee flavour. One popular establishment here in Canada, Tim Hortons, has the best iced caps.

But while coffee itself is pretty low in calories (calorie free, in fact, if you skip the cream and sugar!), you can't usually control what goes into a slushy coffee drink. It comes with lots of sugar and cream already in it, and the result usually tastes so good that you know it can't be good for you. What do you think?

Fitz's Cool Tools: Thomas Kemper Low Calorie Root Beer

Healthy Habits, Womens Health, Healthy Kids, Obesity, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Reviews & Products, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health

As your loving online fitness trainer, I'm constantly searching for fun new products to help you achieve ultimate fitness with the most ease and enjoyment. Thomas Kemper Low Calorie Root Beer, with only 20 calories per 12 ounce bottle, is one of those products. Look. We all know that plain old water is the best beverage in the world health wise. But...I'm a big fan of the no and low calorie drinks as well. I find that a diet soda satisfies my sweet tooth and keeps me from hunting down muffins throughout my day. It keeps me in the teeny jeans I like to wear as well.

Thomas Kemper did a great job creating the perfect low calorie version of their Original Root Beer. It tastes delicious and my die hard root beer loving neighbor guzzled it down to rave reviews, without even knowing it was a low calorie drink! He almost fell off of his chair when I told him it was a 'diet' drink. Having said that, I think his new addiction to Thomas Kemper Low Cal Root Beer is going to help him get rid of his 'regular beer belly'. Such an easy way to lose weight!

Not only is the Low Calorie Root Beer a yummy treat, the bottle will make you feel fancy. It's brown and beige with a cutie logo, and will make you feel like you're sitting on a farm with Wilford Brimley and Huck Finn. Not that those two characters were known to hang out together, but Thomas Kemper will make you feel like they did. It will make you feel like you're all three together on the farm throwing rocks....or something else sweet and old fashioned like that!

Eva Longoria endorses chocolate

Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria believes in indulgence, sensuality, and yes, chocolate. This makes her new side job quite a fit for the 33-year-old actress.

Longoria is the new face of a chocolate campaign soon to be featured in ads shown in the U.K. and Europe. The chocolate lover will promote Mayan Mystica, a chocolate ice cream covered in milk chocolate flavored with cinnamon, honey, and nutmeg and Magnum Minis, small chocolates available in a variety of yummy flavors. The good thing about the minis is that they are well, mini. Yes, they are small. Which means you can enjoy one or two here and there. If you can get your hands on one of these minis, then, give it a try. Just don't go overboard.

After your indulgence, stop over here at AOL's Celebrity Diet and Fitness site and see what the stars do to stay in shape when they're not endorsing chocolate.

Fit Beauty: Looking good despite a hangover

I tend to think that moderation is the best way to go when it comes to most things, including alcohol consumption. However, I'd be a liar if I said I always followed my own rule. We all overindulge from time to time -- sometimes it can be easy to get carried away when you're having a good time. Despite the resulting hangovers, life goes on and we all have to pay for our overindulging.

If you find yourself in a situation where you've woken up with a raging headache, nausea, red eyes (etc) and don't have the luxury of laying around all day recovering in front of the TV, here are some tips from AOL's All About You on how to look good if you're hungover but still have to go about your daily life.

Fit Beauty: To shave or to wax? Or is there a better way to remove hair?

essRemoving body hair isn't exactly high on most people's "fun things to do" list, but alas, for most of us it's just something that has to be done. I suppose the good news is that there are so many different hair removal methods out there (whether you're talking eyebrows, underarms, legs or bikini line) that we at least have some choice about how we'll free ourselves of excess hair. If you want to take a look at the long list of what's available, as well as know all of the pros and cons of each method, take a look at this article which gives a rundown on shaving, waxing, tweezing, removal creams and threading.

I admit that I've always been afraid of waxing pretty much any part of my body. Pulling hair out at the root just doesn't sound appealing to me -- although I suppose I'm somewhat of a hypocrite as I do enjoy tweezing my eyebrows. However, I know that there are tonnes of devotees out there that wouldn't think of using any other method. According to the piece, the pros really outweigh the cons as, even though it hurts, the pain is fleeting, the results are excellent and long-lasting, and it's cheap.

The appalling truth about doughnuts

Healthy Habits, Womens Health, Healthy Recipes, Healthy Kids, Cellulite, Obesity, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Reviews & Products, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health

I'm always shocked and amazed that anyone would actually consider the doughnut an appropriate part of breakfast. I imagine most folks would snub the idea of eating cake as a good idea in the morning. The doughnut is literally FRIED CAKE! Who the hell thought that would be a good idea for a meal?

In my younger years, I suppose I just considered doughnuts, well.......doughnuts! My parents always seemed to have a bag or box of them on the counter and they were a fairly regular part of my breakfasts growing up. (My Mom probably never thought about what she was actually feeding me either!) Then one day I had the epiphany. Doughnuts are made by frying cake batter in oil for about 90 seconds. They're also often filled or covered with cream, chocolate or just pure sugar.

How Many Calories ... in Clam Chowder?

How Many Calories?

When the snow's a-flyin' and hunger strikes, there are few things more appealing than a nice, hearty, warm bowl of soup. And one of my favourite soups is New England Clam Chowder -- creamy, filling and full of delicious seafood, it's a perfect meal best enjoyed with some crackers or a warm biscuit.

Soups are generally a great addition to your diet -- they can take the edge off even the worst hunger pains without packing a big calorie punch, But while seafood is a healthy form of protein, the rest of the ingredients might leave something to be desired on the health front, right? Let's find out:

Low fat Blueberry Napoleons with pistachio cream

Healthy Habits, Womens Health, Healthy Recipes, Celebrities and Entertainment, Obesity, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health

I have a bunch of fun, lower in fat, less bad for you dessert options in the recipe section of my web site Fitzness.com. This Low fat Blueberry Napoleon with pistachio cream is a favorite of mine that is hugely popular at holiday parties. I like sweet treats too, but I'm not willing to stuff myself or my friends with butter or oil. Some of the recipes are real deal healthy, and some of them just offer better versions of the really bad stuff.

I love to bake and my treats are rarely pretty, but they're incredibly low in fat and absolutely delicious. Enjoy! Healthy Holidays from your online trainer Fitz!

Fit Beauty: Online beauty sites in time for the holidays

For many, Thanksgiving this week doesn't just mean a day of giving thanks, eating turkey, watching football, spending time with family and enjoying a day off of work. I'm sure that for a lot of you out there, one of the best things about Turkey Day is that it also signals the beginning of the holiday shopping season. I'm Canadian and we celebrate Thanksgiving at least a month before our neighbors to the south, but I know enough about American traditions to know that the day after the big event is traditionally one of the biggest and busiest shopping days of the year.

Unfortunately, not all of us deal well with malls that are packed to capacity with bargain hunters. I'm not a good shopper and admit that I'd rather pay more for just about anything, if it means that I can avoid a tugging match with a frenzied shopaholic over the last cute hoodie or pair of yoga pants on the sale table.

So what are we non-shoppers to do at this time of year? Most of us can't just ignore the craziness altogether and show up at a family gathering empty-handed. While it really is better to give than to receive, I'd still like to see the looks on all of our mothers' faces when, after gratefully accepting some lovely new slippers and an expensive set of sheets, we announce that this year we're just giving the gift of love and good cheer. However, I still don't want to have to spend hours of my precious holiday time duking it out for the best deal at Linens-n-Things.

I've discovered that the answer, at least as far as I'm concerned, exists online. While a mere few years ago I was skeptical of anything I could buy on the web, online shopping has become my savior. So in the interest of the spirit of the holidays, I'd like to share with those who may not yet be in the know, two of my favorite companies to find the gift of beauty, online.

The first is the fabulous H20+, a company that has several freestanding stores across the US and Canada, but which isn't as widely available as a brand like the Body Shop or Bath and Body Works. I've had the chance to visit H20 stores in Las Vegas, Vancouver and even Sydney, Australia, and every time I walk through the doors, I feel completely relaxed. The company specializes in 'sea-derived skincare', offering products for hands, feet, face, body, hair and more. They've got a pretty fantastic men's line for those looking to find something nice for a special guy in their life, and also carry a few nice, light fragrances that smell great but don't overwhelm. I've loved pretty much every product of theirs that I've ever tried and one of the best things about H20 is that, while some of their stuff gets a bit pricey, they also offer fantastic, reasonably-priced gift sets, give away 'gift-with-purchase' items and shipping is free for any order over $100.

My second favorite place to find great beauty items online is at the site for Vancouver-based spa company Skoah. The relatively new company only has three physical locations (2 in Vancouver and 1 in Calgary, Alberta) but will ship their products all over the United States and Canada. Like H20+, their stuff doesn't always come cheap, but as far as skincare products are concerned, they're pretty reasonable -- plus in my opinion, everything they sell smells great. I've tried a number of their products and a few of the best include the luxurious dewlux face kream, the eye kandy moisturizer and the lip dip, which at $15CDN for .5oz (15g), is an awesome deal --seriously, it will last you for years.

I'm sure that there are loads more excellent online sites where you can find some great beauty products without having to leave the comfort of your home or office, but these are just two of my personal favs. If anyone else out there has an excellent site that they've frequented, those of us hoping to avoid the mall rush this season would love to hear about it!

How Many Calories ... in a cup of Light Egg Nog

How Many Calories?

Egg nog and Christmas go hand in hand. Well, at least for me they do. Growing up, the promise of gifts under the tree was always the highlight of Christmas, but having a carton of Egg Nog in the fridge was almost as exciting. And as I got older, egg nog was just as exciting because now I could get in in my latte from Starbucks and I could help myself to my mum's special rum-infused egg nog too. My point? I love egg nog.

But like all good things, it's pretty obvious that egg nog isn't the healthiest beverage out there. I mean, it's pretty much just cream with some sugar. If you're an egg nog fan, this can be a disheartening realization. But what about so-called light egg nog? It's got to be low-cal, right? What do you think?
