Fitz's Cool Tools: The Lucy Power Pant
Fashion and Beauty, Fitness, Reviews & Products
I'm in love with Lucy. No, I haven't ditched my husband for a chic. Lucy is the maker of the pants I've adopted as my uniform. Do I need a uniform? No! Do I wish I had an excuse to wear Power Pants every day? Heck yeah!
If you're not familiar with Lucy, let me introduce you. Lucy is a fashionable line of women's workout wear that puts equal emphasis on performance, versatility and style. The line offers clothing and accessories designed for running, yoga, gym workouts and training in the great outdoors. I've done all of the above in my latest addiction: the Power Pant.
The Power Pant fits my smallish bum in the most amazing way. It enhances my curves, never shows a panty line and falls beautifully to the floor in the boot cut style. The moisture wick material allows me to run without discomfort, and the cute little zippered pockets hold my mp3 player firmly against my hip. One of my girlfriends has a pair, and they disguise her lumps and bumps. Most other fitness pants just accentuate them.

I'm stuck! I've been teaching fitness for almost twenty years., and I often feel like I know all there is to know about body mechanics, weight loss, and fitness equipment. Today though, I'm totally stumped. My socks suck, and I can't seem to find a pair that don't!
I have been running a lot lately, and the only thing that bothers me after mile three is my socks! Ack! They're driving me nuts, and on the verge of giving me blisters. SO! I come to you, my brilliant That's Fit readers for help. Tell me about the socks you love and which ones I shouldn't waste my money on. This fitness pro needs your advice. My feet would like to thank you in advance.
You can still run in the rain. Here's how
Here are some suggestions from Fitsugar:
- Wear a water-repellent top layer, like a rain coat, so the water doesn't weight you down
- Avoid cotton shorts and cotton socks -- neither are very comfortable when wet
- Waterproof your iPod with a zipper-top plastic baggy
- Wear old running shoes, unless yours are waterproof
- Wear sunglasses -- you might look silly but it will keep the water from your eyes
- Don't run too close to the road -- you might get splashed by a car!
Soapy baths and urinary tract infections
Healthy Habits, Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Nutrition & Supplements, Men's Health
My grandmother was getting urinary tract infections one right after the other and we kept trying to figure out what was the culprit. We were cutting out her coffee and soft drink consumption and her sugars/sweets which was making her pretty darn grumpy. She complained that she had been consuming those favorite drinks and sweets all her 94 year long life and that was not causing it. It seems that when we changed her daily routine of showering to bathing because of safety reasons to keep her from slipping in the shower, we were the ones giving her urinary tract infections. It seems her sitting in the soapy water was causing her to get these infections and that is something that is pretty common. Especially in children who seem to do more bathing and love bubble baths. So with advice from the doctor, this is helpful hints that he passed along. Do not put bubble bath, shampoo or other special bubble bath soaps into the bath water and do not let a bar of soap float in the water. When bathing, do not wash the genital area with soap. Water will suffice. Limit bath time to 15 minutes including soaking in the beginning and when you start washing with the soap, get rinsed and get out as soon as you can. He also suggested that she urinate after bathing. A few non bath related items to help cut down on these type infections is to drink plenty of liquids, especially water, to keep the urine light colored and to only buy loose fitting white cotton underpants to wear.
Patagonia celebrates 10 years of organic cotton
Organic, Reviews & Products, Alternative & Green Health
Even though it may not make for the flashiest headline, it's nice sometimes to take a minute to recognize companies that were taking big steps to be more environmentally conscious years ago, paving the way for a higher level of environmental awareness to be the new "norm" today. This year Patagonia is celebrating 10 years of using 100% organic cotton. In 1996 organic cotton was expensive and hard to find, but companies like Patagonia that insisted on using it for their products created more business for organic farmers and started a snowball effect of growing supply and demand for organics. It's always nice to see companies like this doing so well, and it's a reminder that every time we shop, where we choose to spend our money sends a message.
