Fitz's Cool Tools: Kettle Brand Baked Chips are Drool Worthy
Diet & Weight Loss, Reviews & Products, Nutrition & Supplements
Yummy. Delicious. Insanely flavorful. I feel silly gushing over potato chips, but "Oh my God!" Kettle Brand just introduced some new baked chips, and I was blessed with a bag of both Hickory Honey Barbeque and Sea Salt & Vinegar flavors.
To be honest ... even with my super-human-like fitness guru discipline, it was really hard to stop eating them. I had to physically place the bags in another room to avoid devouring every last chip. I'm a salt-loving type of lady, and I was ecstatic when the world introduced baked chips. Are they as pure and nutritious as fresh blueberries? No! But are they a much healthier version of something most people really enjoy? Absolutely.
If you are a lover of chips and a hater of fat thighs, Kettle Brand Baked Chips are going to float your boat. Each serving of "around 23 chips" contains only 120 calories, and only 25 come from fat. Have high standards and when party time comes, serve some of these. Dip will not be necessary!
Kit Kat introduces new 'low cal' candy bar (video)
Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
KitKat's recently launched its biggest new brand in 10 years. It's called KitKat Senses, and from what I can see, it's touted as a 'healthier' version of the regular beloved chocolate bar. They hired British superstar band Girls Aloud to promote the bar in this multi-million dollar commercial.
Interested in knowing the nutritional down-low for KitKat Senses? Apparently, it's got 'just 165 calories,' which is not exactly 'low-cal' if you ask me, but it's better than the regular 220 cal. Still, it's probably loaded with artificial sweeteners, so nutritionally speaking, you'd be better off having a small piece of dark chocolate. Currently, it seems to be available only in the UK.
What do you think of the new bar?

Kirstie Alley's next step: Her own diet brand
Celebrities and Entertainment, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment
This just in: Kirstie Alley is headed for a new weight loss gig now that she's parted ways with Jenny Craig after a three-year relationship. Alley, 57, hopes to pilot her own weight loss brand to launch in 2009. No hard feelings about Jenny Craig, she says, as she heads down her new hopeful path.
"I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride," reports Alley who acknowledges she and the Jenny Craig company did not come to an agreement about her continuing as their spokesperson.
Says Alley in a statement about her weight loss venture: There was a time when America was not fat, and that was in our not-so-distant past. I'm confident that I can create something exciting and innovative: something that if all goes well, will help change a fat America back into a fit America and will offer this country the healthiest, yummiest, easiest and most effective weight-loss program on the market.

Q. Hi Fitz, Why is that we feel like puking or vomiting during intense workouts? Is it a bad indication or health threat? I saw on the Biggest Loser that there were those who puked. However, I felt it just recently on my 20 minute incline treadmill workout and it gave me the creeps. Did I do something wrong? Am I supposed to have myself checked with a doctor? Thanks, Kassy
A. Hi Kassy. Thanks for the great question. There are a bunch of possible causes for your nausea, and most are not worthy of worry. Vigorous exercise takes it's toll on all the different parts of our body; not just our legs, arms and abs. It effects our respiratory, cardiovascular, nervous, and digestive systems (amongst others) as well. Most of the effects of challenging exercise are great, some of the effects though are temporarily not-so-great. I found a study by Dr. R. Rafoth, M.D., The Athlete and the G.I. Tract which describes the causes of exercise induced nausea and other G.I. symptoms which I summarize below.
Some of the factors that can lead to exercise induced nausea are:
1. Presence of symptoms in a non exercising period, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
2. Age. More symptoms occur in younger athletes.
3. Gender: Women are more likely to experience exercised induced nausea, completely unrelated to ones menstrual cycle.
4. Diet: There is an increased incidence of upper abdominal symptoms in athletes who consumed:
-
too big a meal too close to exercise
-
fats
-
hyper-tonic drinks, glucose syrups, honey/maple syrups
-
foods high in dietary fiber
-
high protein diets
