When Your Partner Gains Weight - Do You Tell?
Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment
Smart men know that the answer to the question "Does this make me look fat?" is never, ever "yes." Still, let's say the healthy and fit person you're dating or married to suddenly starts to pack on the pounds. Is it ever acceptable to tell your loved ones they're getting fat?
I ask because of this clip from Tyra. Mr. I-Just-Want-You-To-Be-Healthy tries to convince his girl that he loves her for who she is, he just wants her to lose weight so she'll quit whining about it. But his true motives are revealed when he basically tells her if she doesn't lose weight, he'll be forced to cheat on her.
Niiiice.
Still, let's say you're a more conscientious valentine, the kind who really is just concerned about your lover's health. Is a heart-to-heart talk ever acceptable ... or even helpful? Or is it better to health up your own habits and hope that your love will join you in your efforts? What do you think?
Get Smart star loses boyfriend, 28 pounds
Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment
Rumor has it Get Smart actress Anne Hathaway has lost 28 pounds since splitting last month with her boyfriend, Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri, alleged to have been involved in wire fraud and money laundering. The ex-boyfriend is in jail awaiting trial. Hathaway is apparently wasting away.Says one unnamed source: "She's slipped down from a [US] size 8 to size 4 and is hardly sleeping. She knows finishing with him was the best thing for her in the long run but she misses him and is worried sick about what will happen to him."
See that photo to the right? That's Hathaway not too many days ago on July 10. How does she look to you? Compare to the gallery of photos below, featuring the actress prior to her break-up and reported weight loss. I'll share my opinion after the break.
Work your laughing muscles with these pick-up lines for runners
If you're single and running a race, you know there's a possibility you might meet somebody interesting. I mean, runners are hot! Perhaps you're super focused before the race, but later, maybe you reach for a post-race banana, and another runner reaches for a nearby bagel. Your hand brushes against his. You stop, your eyes meet, and ... then what? What do you say?
"So, you're a runner, huh?" is a little lame, but there are some hilarious suggestions at Half-Fast. Who's not going to accept a dinner invitation from a guy who says, "I'd like to see your race-y pictures at the finish," or "Do you believe in love at first sight? Or should I pass you more than once?"
Okay, so not everyone would get a kick out of these, but if you don't have a goofy sense of humor, I don't want to have dinner with you anyway. If the lines above made you chuckle, check out the full list, and let me know if you've used any running-related pick-up lines (or been on the receiving end of them).

Can training end up straining your relationship?
Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Motivation
I'm friends with a lot of fit couples, and I've noticed that, while they all enjoy working out and have memberships to the same gym, they rarely follow the same fitness routines. They might jump on the elliptical together, or spot each other on weights occasionally, but more often than not, they do their own thing.
As long as they're both happy with their individual routines, generally, it works. However, what if your sweetie is far more dedicated than you are, or vice versa? For example, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has recently been kicking butt in the fitness department, and she's looking fantastic. However, her dancer boyfriend, Ivan Velez, is reportedly getting fed up with the amount of time she spends working out, and isn't a fan of being roped into her early morning fitness routines.
It's not easy -- if he's naturally thin and you put on weight easily, you might feel compelled to hit the gym hard every day, and he might be perfectly happy going two or three times a week. If you really want to work out together, That's Fit posted some suggestions last year for involving your sweetie, but one thing I would suggest is that you be flexible and figure out whether it's more important to you to have a long, hard workout, or to work out with your partner. If you're willing to take a brisk, two-mile walk instead of a four-mile run, he or she might be more likely to join you. Or, if there's something your sweetie enjoys, give it a shot -- there are plenty of ways to burn calories, after all!

Fit Factor: The couples workout
When Fitsugar published these photos of Tori Spelling and hubby Dean McDermott working out together, I thought to myself, now, wouldn't that be nice to have your mate as your workout buddy? Then I thought about Jon and tried to imagine us working out together. For starters, Jon doesn't work out. He doesn't need to--he's a tradesman and unlike me he actually uses his muscles and burns calories at work. Also? We're both a bit competitive and it might ruin our relationship if we started getting athletic together. No, I'll stick to my present solo workout routine--If I want a workout buddy, I'll find a friend at a similar fitness level to me.
But even though it's not right for you, it might be the key to getting you--and your partner--in shape. There are plenty of exercises that are good for your body and your relationship. Want some ideas? Why not try ...

Why dogs are really woman's best friend
Diet & Weight Loss, Motivation
I don't know why there's a stereotype that dogs are for men and cats are for women. Dogs are "Man's Best Friend" while aging women with no families and a cat or three are often described as "Crazy Cat Ladies". Not only is it unfair, it's also inaccurate.I've always loved dogs -- especially big dogs (not that there's anything wrong little breeds if that's what you fancy), and I can't imagine my life without one. For that reason, I was impressed to read these 6 reasons why women prefer their dogs over their boyfriends:
- They Always Want to Spend Time With You - Totally true, a dog will never abandon you for baseball, work or X-box.
- They Never Scrutinize What You Made for Dinner - Every dog I've ever had (mostly Labradors which, to be fair, are often compared to garborators), will eat whatever you give them with zeal, enthusiasm and appreciation. No complaints.
- They Always Want to Cuddle - Dogs revel in your attention and will give it to you whenever you're willing to accept it. The same cannot necessarily be said about a boyfriend.
- They Never Make You Feel Insecure - Your dog will always be thrilled to see you when you walk through the door, whether you've got a bad haircut, gained 15 pounds or feel all bloated. Although again to be fair, a smart boyfriend who knows what's good for him won't point these things out either.
- They Never Complain - If you've had a bad day and need to talk or need some time on your own, your dog will listen to your problems and keep you company on a solo walk.
- They Are a Great Judge of Character - Unless you've got a particularly aggressive pet that dislikes everybody, how your dog treats the guys you bring home -- and perhaps more importantly, how the guys your bring home treat your dog -- could tell you everything you need to know about your date. Basically if you bring a man home and he's not a huge fan of you dog (or vice versa), send him packing.
