No anti-aging secret for Meredith Vieira
About her anti-aging secret, 54-year-old Meredith Vieira says: "I don't have one." She does have good people, though -- none of whom are plastic surgeons. One good person is NBC President Jeff Zucker, who hired Vieira as Today co-host. Passing up for the job folks in their 20s and 30s, Zucker told Vieira, who has been in front of a camera for nearly two decades: "I want someone with experience. I'm not looking for a number, I'm looking for a human being."
"I give him a lot of credit [for] that," says Vieira, who joins the ranks of women like Jamie Lee Curtis who take aging as it comes and accept it with simple grace. Vieira's kids help the cause. They don't care about her celebrity or anyone else's obsession with it, she says.
Maine tops the national list for anti-smoking efforts
Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment
Our nation's states have gotten their grades back for an Anti-smoking Report Card of sorts. It checks their effort to curb the nicotine habit among residents. Maine takes the cake as the #1 state for its anti-smoking efforts. Thanks to the high excise tax of $2 per pack, plus a series of bans such as no smoking in the workplace, Maine was praised for encouraging people to live healthy lifestyles. Interestingly enough, they also banned the sale of flavored cigarettes and cigars.
New York also had good marks as they work on programs to help people quit smoking. Want to know the states that didn't pass? South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Virginia received F's on their report card. Having passed no anti-smoking measures and low spending on programs to help smokers quit, it's easy to see why. More information on the results can be found here.
Teen dies from using too much muscle cream
Reviews & Products, Nutrition & Supplements
17-year-old Arielle Newman died in April from what is now being described as an over-dose of anti-inflammatory muscle cream. As a cross country track runner for Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island, NY, her body absorbed high levels of the active ingredient commonly found in anti-inflammatory sports products such as Bengay and Icy Hot: methyl salicylate. Ms. Newman was reportedly using the cream frequently along with up to two other products containing the ingredient.Methyl salicylate poisoning is extremely rare and doctors aren't sure if it was due to overuse or simply that her body absorbed an abnormal amount of the chemical. The makers of Bengay, Johnson & Johnson, have expressed their condolences to the family and are reminding consumers about "the importance of reading the label on this and all over-the-counter medicines to ensure safe and proper use."

One of my personal training clients showed up today, and shot a fitness tip in my direction for a change. She's a super fit girl with very muscular legs and as a result experiences chafing during long runs. Randomly she decided to tell me about Body Glide, which looks likes deodorant and glides on the same way.
Body Glide contains one percent zinc oxide and claims to be the "anti-friction skin formula" that will prevent blisters, chafing, dry cracked skin, saddle sores and rash. It's made with Vitamin E and aloe and is a no mess, non greasy, oil free product.
