Patrick Swayze's miracle

A few months ago, Patrick Swayze announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which is one of the deadliest forms of the disease. As we all knew he would, he's been fighting it aggressively, and this past weekend the world saw a healthy and happy looking Swayze at LAX airport.

Smiling and giving a thumbs up sign, the actor told photographers, "I'm a miracle, dude. I don't know why." He's been undergoing chemotherapy, and was at the airport to catch a flight to Chicago to work on a new drama for A&E called The Beast.

The battle certainly isn't over, but it sure is heartwarming to see our favorite dirty dancer looking so good!

My guest this week became famous as one of the hot, yet capable babes of Charlie's Angels. This role that burned Cheryl Ladd's name and face into our minds forever, in my opinion, will not in the end, be what we remember her for. We spoke recently both over the phone and in person, and she definitely showed a side of her I hadn't expected to see.

Although stunningly beautiful, and more capable of turning heads at age 57 than most women are at 25 ... Cheryl's most impressive quality in my book is her willingness to take care of other women. She's investing a lot of time in guiding and educating other Baby Boomer women about menopause. Menopause is often a taboo, hush hush topic. But Cheryl has embraced her age and stepped up to the plate to help make her personal experience with menopause an educational experience for others. She shared a bunch of private experiences with me and offered advice for growing more beautiful each year. Read on to learn how to age as gracefully and gorgeously as she has.

Fitz: You're an iconic figure in beauty. You've aged flawlessly, and to me ... you're prettier today than you were 30 years ago starring in Charlie's Angels. What can we do, to be more like you?

Cheryl: First of all, I think it's most important for women to have a close relationship with their doctor. It's important to trust your doctor, so when things go weird you are comfortable addressing the situation and taking care of things. Be proactive with your health! You also have to love yourself! Beauty comes from the inside first.

Fitz: Well your outside is pretty fantastic too. Let's start with your fitness routine. What do you do to stay in such great shape?

Alicia Keys is super excited to see the sun for the same reasons we are -- she loves getting active outdoors. When the musician isn't camped out behind her piano or deep in thought writing a new hit, she says, "I like to do outdoorsy things. Hikes, trails, running, swimming. I love the sun. I'm all about the warmth."

Mariska Hargitay put down the Pringles and chocolate and found something new and healthier to crave -- tropical fruit.

Britney Spears is rumored to be trying a new diet to slim down -- the Victoria Beckham diet, which starts the day with water and lemon. Mmmm, satisfying.

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Jack Black and his big screen butt

Jack Black might not be the laughable, lovable lug we've come to know for long. No doubt he'll remain laughable and lovable, but the comedian decided it was time to lose some weight after seeing his bare tush on the big screen in Margot at the Wedding.

I can see where that would be some motivation.

Anyway, Jack has joined a gym and is cutting down on fast foods. Though a big part of the priority is to look better, he's interested in health as well, saying "I want to feel good too. Now, if I eat a cheeseburger and fries, it tastes so good at the time and then right after it's like, 'What did I do? Why?'"

Now, as a father of two, I'm sure health is more important to him than ever, so I'm going to wish him all the best on his new, healthy lifestyle.

Woody Harrelson intends to fast for 40 days

Woody Harrelson is no stranger to fasting -- he completed a 38-day green juice a couple of years ago (he tried to make it to 40 days, but was tempted away from it when some friends offered him homemade Indian food). He really enjoyed the experience, and "definitely felt my electro-magnetic field expanding." And so, he's doing it again, but bigger.

The actor plans to go to a remote island and drink only water for 40 days. It's not for weight loss for a movie role or anything like that -- he just wants to experience it. Woody said, "I've always wanted to do it. I know it's going to be really hard. But can you imagine it? Eating nothing for 40 days? Swimming and surfing every day in a remote place? Where does the mind go?"

I'm kind of wondering where the mind went, but that's just me. I recognize that there may be some benefits to fasting, but 40 days on nothing but water just can't be healthy for one's body.

Harrison Ford in fighting shape for Indiana Jones

Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones character will have aged in real time in his newest movie, but I swear the 66-year-old actor himself has turned back the clock. His physique this week at the Cannes Film Festival rivals that of many actors half his age.

Over a year ago, his girlfriend Calista Flockhart (whom he is reported to be marrying this summer) said Ford was working hard to get buff for the role by eating a high-protein diet with lots of fish and vegetables, wanting to make sure "Indy is as tough as he always was."

Ford performed many of his own stunts for this latest film, and Steven Spielberg said that he managed them "amazingly well, far beyond what I expected. And he did it so brilliantly and so effortlessly. He was just a little more out of breath after every stunt, just a little more -- and so was I."

What men crave: Real bodies

Gabriel Olds is a Hollywood actor. He's appeared on CSI, Law & Order: SVU and Six Feet Under, and his most recent film is Life of the Party. Usually the bad guy on TV, Olds is really a pretty good guy. Why? Because when it comes to women, it isn't fake boobs or fixed noses he prefers. Forget puffy lips and implanted buttocks. This guy like the real thing.

It took this guy a string of unsuccessful dates to figure out exactly what he wanted: Real bodies. He suspects other guys feel the same way.

"This is the part I think women don't understand," says Olds in a Glamour magazine interview. "When a guy falls in love, his lover's body parts become bewitching. I'm not going to tell you that our heads don't turn when we see a stacked blond walking down the street. But when we fall for you -- really, really fall for you -- you hijack our sense of beautiful. What's sexy to us? You -- in the "before" picture."

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

This week I went back to talk with one of my favorite past guests, Mr. Colin Egglesfield. (To view Colin's in-depth interview click here.) Spring is here, summer is coming and this All My Children star has the most perfectly fit body one could wish for. We all want to know how celebrities earn their great bodies, and Colin was sweet enough to share his tips for preparing for swimsuit season. These tips are exactly as our favorite Calvin Klein underwear model gave them to me. So play close attention, follow his advice, and prepare to strut your stuff this summer!

  • Run! You can do all the weight training in the world, but nothing burns off that winter weight better than a good 30-45 run at least three times a week. I like to start out doing about 30min and then gradually work up to an hour over the course of a few weeks as I start to get my stamina back. I love to run outside by myself with my headphones and some great music on my iPod and just go! It's my time to be alone with my thoughts, and anything that might be on my mind always seems to be a lot clearer after a good run.

Adrian Grenier sprints and lets the paparazzi know that it's "a non-event." I wonder if the girls with him think it's a non-event ...

Julianne Moore told OK magazine that she's "hungry all the time. All actresses are hungry all the time." That seems like quite the generalization, especially considering Sarah Jessica Parker recently came out saying that she eats everything. Who do you believe? SJP might have a ridiculously high metabolism, but I think it's more likely (and really unfortunate) that Julianne probably speaks for more of Hollywood.

This week I'm featuring one of the sexiest men alive (to heck People magazines list! If they haven't figured out to put this guy on their list....they've no credibility with me.) Colin Egglesfield is both a successful actor with a sweet job as Josh Madden on ABC's soap All My Children, and one of the most popular male models around. If you don't recognize the name, go check out his website, ColinEgglesfield.com and you'll whack yourself on the head in one of those "I could have had a V-8 type moments". The guy has been the face and body of the biggest print campaigns around. Calvin Klein, Versace, Nautica, Clinique....the list goes on.

Before interviewing Colin, I literally had to shake my giggles out for about three hours. He's that insanely handsome. It was very stressful to me, until he said "hello". Besides being ridiculously delightful to look at, the boy is sweet! Pleasant, funny, down to earth, smart and thoughtful. The kind of guy anyone would adore, even if he were not so pretty. Colin is the all-American man, with a cautious Irish mother who happens to be a big star. He only happened across show business while pausing before medical school.

On the fitness side, Colin's body speaks for itself. He's not genetically gifted; he works damn hard. He runs, lifts and cycles. He's mastered nutritious eating in a way that allows him to continue looking quite perfect all the time, without having to starve or suffer. He's not strangely large or small.......he's just right. Fit. Fit. Fit. So enjoy learning about the guy who you may have drooled over in the men's section of department stores, or just wanted to be like(if you're a guy). I did. And when you're done, check out Colin's custom T-shirt company ShoutOutClothing.com. The ever-changing T's are the perfect holiday gift for everyone on your list.

Fitz: How did you get into modeling and acting?

Colin:I decided to take a one year break after graduating from the University of Iowa and before attending medical school. I kind of fell into a modeling contract and then pretty immediately landed on runways around the world.

Why would a doctor need acting classes?

Posted: Sep 18th 2007 6:29AM by Rigel Celeste

"I'm sorry, Dr. Smith isn't available right now. He's in theater class."

What???

Seriously. Doctors across the country, in growing numbers, are turning to acting classes to help them improve their bedside manners.

It's really not as bad as it sounds. The goal is not to teach doctors to "act" like they care more, but instead to give them some formal training on just how big of an impact body language, attentiveness, eye contact, and verbal cues can have on a person's perception.

Considering 'bedside manner' is such an important part of what makes a good doctor good, I think this is a great idea.
