Life Fitness is a process of continuous growth: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Need motivation and guidance to facilitate positive changes in your life? Ask Life Fit Expert Laura Lewis!

Dear Laura,

Working out is a major part of my life. After I leave my job around 5pm, I go to the gym every night and typically spend three hours working out. My girlfriends at work think that I am obsessed with exercising, even calling me an "exercise addict." I don't think I am! I just care about feeling healthy and looking my best. What do you think?

Thanks.

Dear Ms. Fitness,

Being Fit versus being obsessed with fitness can go hand in hand. Yet, in order to identify if you really are a addicted to exercise, you can begin by asking yourself a series of questions. Here are 10 Ways to tell if you are indeed an Exercise Addict:

How about a Mother's Day Race?

How about making this Sunday's Mother's Day an active one? If you like to run or walk, snag a last minute spot on one of the many Mother's Day races around the country.

Active.com has a great Mother's Day race locator -- just pop in your zip code, find a race and see if you can still enroll. If online registration is over, give a call to race officials to confirm you'll be able to register right on race day. Just think of it, a stellar early morning workout on Mother's Day with a t-shirt and racer goody bag to boot. Don't forget to invite your family to run or walk by your side or cheer you on at the finish.

Then be sure to return home to those flowers and a healthy Mother's Day brunch!

Pre-run checklist promotes race readiness

I'm running in a two-mile race tomorrow. It's called the Gator Gallop, and it's the kick-off event for the University of Florida Homecoming parade. Prior to today, I thought I was all set for this mini-challenge. I have my new running shoes all broken in, my shin splints are under control, and I know I can master a two-mile trek. Then today, I got the reminder e-mail about the event. And it came with a little checklist I thought was helpful. Since it might prove interesting to you too, I thought I'd share. The checklist read:

Sunglasses
Hat
Sunscreen
Safety ID Tag, Like Road ID
Post Event Snack
Plenty of Can-Do Attitude

We hope you have a safe, fun and successful race day!

What to eat after the run

I was told by a nutritionist at Canyon Ranch in Tucson, Arizona to make sure I put something in my body after I exercise. Exercise takes a lot out of us. So it's important we replenish what we've lost when our physical activity is complete. The experts at active.com agree and offer some smart eating tips for runners wishing to nourish and repair their bodies after workouts.

Try red bell peppers, they say. Just one provides 380 percent of the recommended Daily Value of vitamin C, a nutrient crucial for repairing connective tissues and cartilage. Vitamin C should be worked in throughout the day, every two to three hours or so until five daily servings are consumed. Also give papaya, cantaloupe, and oranges a try.

Protein rebuilds muscle and also repairs bones, ligaments, and tendons. What better source of protein -- and omega-3 fatty acids -- than salmon. "Eating fish high in omega-3s or taking supplements is like throwing a big bucket of ice water on inflammation," say the experts. Mackerel, flaxseeds, and walnuts will also do the trick.
