Looks like the FDA has determined in definitive fashion that the Veggie Booty snack chips which were recalled by the manufacturer two weeks ago did in fact contain the salmonella bacteria that has caused dozens of illnesses across the nation.

The cause of the recall came from seasoning ingredients imported from China (no surprise), as Robert's Gourmet had purchased the seasoning used on the chips from Atlantic Quality Spice and Seasonings. Not so much quality was intact with the company's QC, apparently.

Although one lawsuit has been connected with the recall so far, and 61 people have become sick due to the tainted chips, no one has died from the contamination.

As Debra explained here last week, Veggie Booty products were recalled due to some of the ingredients contained in them may have been contaminated with salmonella bacteria.

Again, Chinese-sourced ingredients are being put to blame for this latest food recall. In what took less than a week, a couple is now suing the makers of Veggie Booty products for poisoning their child. Details are sparse at the moment, so it will be interesting to see how this develops.

The suit claims that an 18-month-old child had a severe bout of "bloody diarrhea" that was caused by tainted Veggie Booty products. The suit alleges that the child was found to have salmonella poisoning when taken to the hospital for evaluation. If this case is proven, yet another hit against manufacturers who source products from China will happen. Count on it.

The recent recall of Veggie Booty snack foods has been apparently traced to tainted seasoning used on those products. Low and behold, the tainted seasoning was imported from China. Surprised?

Chinese food imports just keep on raking up one blunder after another, and this latest salmonella-tainted batch of Chinese imported seasoning is just the latest. The products, so far, have sickened dozens but has not caused any deaths.

So, the next time you buy anything at the grocery store, be sure and ask if it was made with imported Chinese ingredients. Sounds hokey, but it's only your health at stake. The only thing there is that retailers won't have a clue about the brands they carry, right?

If you're a regular shopper of natural and health food stores, you may have seen Veggie Booty products sitting with the other organic corn chips and health(ier) snack foods.

As of this morning, Veggie Booty snacks (all sizes and lots) are under nationwide recall after 51 cases of salmonella food poisoning were connected to Veggie Booty products.

At this time, a company representative stated that no Veggie Booty products -- yet -- had tested positive for Veggie Booty contamination, but that the company was recalling its products solely as a precautionary measure.
