Boob Jobs - Not Just For Women Anymore

Diet & Weight Loss

Man BoobsAs the population continues to get bigger and bigger, so does the prevalence of what's commonly known by the self-explanatory term Man Boobs (also hilariously known, I'm told, as Moobs or he-vage). Hey, there's even a website dedicated to the appreciation of man boobs, although I haven't been able to figure out if the Manzier or Bro are actually available for purchase in North America.

You might be having a laugh thinking of that classic Seinfeld episode, but not everyone finds male cleavage as hilarious. According to the BBC, male breast reduction surgery is on the rise. For some patients, their 'moobs' are caused by a condition called gynaecomastia. But for most, it's just excess weight -- the 'he-vage' can be reduced by good old diet and exercise.

Men getting boob jobs, men getting pregnant -- the world really is a strange place. Your thoughts?

Guys, would you get a 'moob' reduction?

Don't double dip that chip

Healthy Habits, Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements

In what has to be a food safety first, an old Seinfeld episode inspired students at Clemson University to find out if double dipping your chip at the snack table really is bad for your health.

What they learned is that, depending on the acidity and texture of the dip in question, up to 10,000 bacteria can be transferred from mouth to bowl with every dip of the chip. Essentially, if every person in the room double dips their chip, you're looking at a large communal bowl of shared bacteria. What the didn't examine was what kind of bacteria was being passed around, or whether it was dangerous.

The bottom line is, double dipping is just bad manners. Keep your bacteria where it belongs and use a fresh chip when you dip this Super Bowl Sunday.

Here's the scene that inspired the study, just for laughs:

Getting cozy at the gym

Healthy Habits, Healthy Places, Stress Reduction, Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment, Motivation, Men's Health

I'll start this feature by telling you that I love the gym. I enjoy the equipment, the options, and my fellow exercisers. I actually own my own private gym, but still attend the big one in my area. Having said that, occasionally weird things happen there.

Most recently I've experienced this weird phenomenon of 'gym cuddlers'. It's strange. I had about five silly experiences, all about the same and I wanted your input. Here's the picture. My gym has these massive lines of cardio machines. The treadmills stand about 25 in a row. I've been hitting the gym at slower times lately and often will climb on a treadmill when the entire row is empty. Usually I go waaaay down to the last treadmill in the row (next to the wall), so I can have a little privacy. Peace. Space. You know.

Sage advice for your neck and back

Healthy Habits, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness

Is there a person on Earth who has never suffered from neck or back pain? I've dealt with both, luckily not at the same time. Here are a few DO's and DON'Ts for your neck and back -- these tips have stood the test of time according to Philadelphia chiropractor, Jeff Sklar:

  • DON'T sleep on your stomach, DO sleep on your back. Side-sleepers, DO put a pillow between your knees.
  • DON'T sleep on a flat pillow, DO find a pillow that structurally supports the natural curve of your neck.
  • DON'T sit at a computer desk for too long, DO keep the computer monitor in front of you and at eye level.
  • DON'T sit with a wallet in your back pocket (especially a thick, George Costanza wallet -- remember that Seinfeld episode?)
  • DON'T lock your knee joints when bending forward, DO lower back stretches regularly, even when pain-free.
  • DON'T cross your legs for extended periods, this decreases blood flow to the lower extremities and can cause pelvic imbalance. DO traction your lower spine in the pool by letting your legs dangle below you in deep water, using a flotation device to support your upper body.

Other than being a trusty back sleeper, I'm occasionally guilty of a few of those DON'Ts. What relieves your neck and back pain?
