Patrick Dempsey picks Spandex over baggies

Patrick Dempsey says he gets a lot of crap for it, but he does prefer Spandex over baggies. Well, when he's biking anyway.

Gracing the cover of May's Bicycling magazine and the subject of a dreamy interview, the Grey's Anatomy star reveals how he broke into the sport of cycling, how he lost 12 pounds pushing those pedals round and round, and how he prefers solo to group riding. That's not all. Dempsey has lots more to say.

This TV and movie star says he's more energy drink than expresso, says right now, he's riding a new Tarmac SL, and says a ride -- on the day he gave this interview, he rode 21 miles -- is a sort of meditation for him.

McDreamy opens cancer center

He's not a doctor, but he plays one on TV... and he's opening up a cancer center in real life. Together with Central Maine Medical Center, Patrick Dempsey, the dreamy doc on Grey's Anatomy, is opening The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer & Healing in Lewiston, Maine. The center is scheduled to open on March 31st. Dempsey donated $250,000 for the creation of the center.

On the center's web site Dempsey states "My awakening to the realities of cancer began in 1997 when my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer." He continues, "I learned a lot during my mother's illness. I found out how important it is to have access to good, reliable resources to help the patient, family members, and caretakers. I knew that I wanted to make a difference, to give back to the community that helped my mom through her cancer journey. "

Well said, McDreamy. This is a man who knows how to make great lemonade. Dempsey also made an appearance on our list of Favourite Fit Celebs in 2007. Take a peek!

Here at That's Fit, we're constantly telling you what we think about things, but sometimes it's nice to know what you think. So from time to time, we'll ask you a question. Don't be afraid to speak up -- we love feedback.

There's no doubt about it -- 2007 was a year for fitness. So many celebs shaped up and showed off their moves and I say good for them -- they're influencing thousands to get off the couch and get fit.

So my question for you is: Who was your favourite fit celeb of 2007? The choices are listed below. My personal choice? I think Felicity Huffman rocks -- running a Triathlon on the day of the Emmy's? That's fairly awe-inspiring if you ask me.
