Workplace Fitness: Fight the signs of job stress with flowers

Alternative & Green Health

Would you consider your job stressful? Do you blame your career for any of your skin problems and signs of aging? Are you having a hard time finding a skin routine that really works?

I realize that stress comes from all different areas in life, but I swear that 90% of mine has always come from my work. I'm 30 years old and just started to finally get really serious about skincare, and I would love to know just how many of my wrinkles were first formed somewhere back in my employment history. I just know that those 12-hour nursing shifts and that boss who used to turn bright red while yelling out commands must account for at least half of them!

If you love the natural look, try out these fun and easy natural beauty tips. From fun recipes to easy lifestyle changes, the tips are all about putting the "natural" back into natural beauty.

1. Oh, Sugar! Mix a tablespoon of honey with a tablespoon of sugar. After washing your face, heat the mixture for about 5 to 6 seconds in the microwave and then softly exfoliate your skin. You will look and smell naturally sweet!

2. Flat on your back.
Sleep on your back and slow the wrinkling process in both your face and cleavage.

3. Rage not wrinkle not. Holding on to anger can actually cause wrinkles especially around the brow area. Happy people really are more beautiful.

4. Stack'em up. Sleeping on two to three stacked pillows can assist in decreasing dark circles under your eyes.

5. Go Greek. Add several drops of lavender essential oil to a couple of tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and heat briefly in the microwave. Work some into the ends of your hair first, then the crown, brushing down with your fingers. Let it sit in your hair for about thirty minutes and then rinse.

6. Stand tall. Good posture actually draws a person's eyes upward, giving you the appearance of being slimmer.

7. Go low, but not too low
. Wearing slight heels will give you better posture than wearing completely flat shoes.

8. Cool as a cucumber. Lay thinly sliced cucumbers over your eyes, forehead, cheeks and any other area that is overly puffy. Cucumbers contain a mild astringent that is excellent for rejuvenating the skin.

9. The stay home beach vacation.
Mix a cup of Himalayan Sea salts and enough extra virgin olive oil to mix well with the salt. Add some lavender essential oil, rosemary or even peppermint. Mix everything together and enjoy a lovely and refreshing body scrub.

10. Kissing potion.
Mix equal parts of almond oil and cocoa butter. Add a teaspoon of honey and a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Mix everything together and microwave for about 15 seconds. Mix the melted ingredients together and place in a small dish and refrigerate. Your lips will look and taste great!

10 ways to look and feel younger

Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Alternative & Green Health

Every couple of weeks when I'm at the grocery store, I'll throw a bottle of wine or a 6-pack of some sort of beer into the cart. Last week, I realized at the checkout that I didn't have my I.D. on me. "That's ok," said the cashier. "You don't need it." I felt a little silly, expecting her to card me, but since I was 21, they've always carded me. Apparently, in my mid-30s, I'm finally looking my age. I'm not sure that's a good thing.

I don't want to look younger, necessarily, but I do want to look youthfulthese tips about how to freshen up your look. My favorites include:
because that's how I feel. That's why I enjoyed
  • Keep your moisturizer handy. It's amazing how fast skin gets dry in the winter weather. Moisturize your face, yes, but also your neck, feet, and hands.
  • Drink, drink, drink! Water helps your body function and keeps your cells plump and healthy, which can minimize fine lines in your face and prevent water retention.
  • Pay attention to your hair. Shiny hair cut stylishly will make you look and feel more youthful.
What are your favorite tips for keeping your look young and fresh?

Quick beauty fixes for a busy day

Work/Home Balance, Diet & Weight Loss, Motivation

A long commute, a longer workday, a working lunch, and a necessary workout -- your daily schedule may not leave much time for an extended beauty routine. The best way to look naturally beautiful is by eating a diet rich in nutritious foods, exercising, and drinking lots of water, but problem areas happen. Never fear, eDiets has some suggestions for quick beauty fixes on the go.

For instance, if you need a little cheek color, dab a neutral lipstick on your cheeks and rub it in. Unruly brows can be tamed with a touch of hair gel, and concealer can do a lot of damage control if its the only thing in your purse. Check out the gallery below for more tips on how to look good with even the busiest of schedules.

Make-up chemicals: 5lbs a year may be absorbed

Healthy Habits, Natural Products, Organic, Womens Health, Diet & Weight Loss, Alternative & Green Health

Being a stay-at-home mom, I don't feel the urge to get made up every morning like I did when I had leave my house to go to work. I don't use nearly as much makeup as I used to (and I didn't use that much to begin with), and after reading this post over at Styledash, I'm kind of glad. A recent report found that women who use the most make up may absorb as much as five pounds of chemicals into their body each year. That's astounding.

What's worse is that if you use a large variety of products every day, you could be combining chemicals that may not have ever meant to be combined, though industry spokespeople say that's an urban myth. Either way, I know I'll be thinking twice before I slather on that foundation and mascara just to play with my kids in the backyard.

For those of you who are interested, the Environmental Working Group has compiled a huge database of personal care products and the potential health risks associated with each one. And as Jonathan pointed out, other -- perhaps safer -- options include organic cosmetics or natural beauty solutions.

Naturally looking your best takes effort, but it can pay off

Looking for the most healthy way to look beautiful these days (and nights)? Of course, it starts from the inside out. Eating highly nutritious meals along with plenty of water and staying away from excessive fatty foods, fried foods and high-calorie foods and soft drinks is a great start to allow your body all the necessary items is needs to function well and provide you with the kind of glow and radiance you need -- and desire.

Sure -- there are bountiful products that will cover up the signs of inadequate nutrition and poor physical health. These come in all shapes and sizes, from over-indulgent and sappy facial moisturizer and makeup to actual tan-colored "body paint" that will cover up those blemishes and marks that exist. I know -- a lot of that has nothing to do with treating your body good from the inside out. In those cases, the purpose for such products -- when chosen wisely -- is clear.
