FitSpirit: Seeking the strength of waterfalls

Posted: Sep 27th 2008 6:00AM by Deanna Glick

While our neighbors head to church, a friend and I plan to hit Great Falls National Park on Sunday morning and sweat it out on the trails. We're both going through very challenging times and we need to escape and work our bodies and breathe and take in something much bigger than us and our worries. Something tells me God approves. In fact, He will be there.

There's something about waterfalls. The power. The beauty. The refusal to stop going. That's it. They just keep going. So that's what we'll do. We'll take a lesson from the waterfalls. The Stone Roses song comes to mind:

She'll carry on through it all.
She's a waterfall.
She'll carry on through it all.

Mom has triplets, plus one

When one Maryland family is asked whether their four sons are quadruplets, there will be no easy answer. The boys, who were all born on January 29th, are unique. Three of them are identical triplets, while the fourth is a fraternal sibling. Only 100 other cases of this type of quadruplets have been documented in the United States.

During fertility treatments, two embryos were placed into their mother's uterus. One of those embryos split twice, creating the identical triplets. The second -- the fourth fraternal brother -- developed on its own.

I have a feeling that the boys' parents are soon not going to have much time to marvel over their sons' unique beginnings!

Maryland to parents: immunize kids or get sent to jail

I was absolutely astonished to see that the state of Maryland wants to arrest parents who refuse to have their kids immunized for various childhood diseases.

Apparently, a medical police state mentality has taken over some thinking in some states and parent's rights have been shoved aside. While immunizations are very helpful to many kids who are in daily contact with other kids, should parents be forced to have their kids get those shots?

What do you think? There are positives to both sides of the argument here, but one erases a part of the culture that defines America -- free choice in the democratic way.
