Champagne - No Need to Avoid It
Mariah Carey - Champagne is Too Fattening
Did you indulge in a little bubbly on Thanksgiving? Mariah Carey might have -- but not until after 3 PM.Mariah shared on Wednesday's episode of Ellen that she doesn't drink early in the day -- her excuse for not toasting with Ellen, who wanted so badly to get the superstar to admit she's pregnant. Mariah promises there is no baby on the way. It was just too early for a drink, she said. Plus, champagne is too fattening for her.
What's your too-fattening food or drink? I'm thinking anything Ben & Jerry's qualifies. Stay tuned -- Monday's Diet Derailers post will tell all about this disastrous dessert.
Is the lemon detox diet dangerous?
Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
While Americans are bagging leaves, Australians are bagging lemons. Bikini season is nearing in Australia, and the lemon detox diet is ramping up in popularity. Kilos are reportedly dropping like crazy Down Under, and Hollywood celebrities such as Beyonce Knowles and Mariah Carey have shed pounds on the diet, but is this detox healthy? On the diet, you're drinking six to nine glasses per day -- for five to 14 days -- of a special concoction of Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and pure water. No solids. Here are a few lemon detox dangers cited by nutrition experts:
- It's been labeled a starvation diet -- you know what that means -- dizzy, moody, hungry (there goes vigorous exercise). Also, like a squirrel gathering nuts, your body will start storing fat for emergency survival.
- Should you be solely nourishing yourself with a drink containing nearly zero protein, little fat and few vitamins/minerals?
- Be prepared to lose lean body mass, a real metabolism-slower, making future weight loss more difficult.
- Critics contend the diet puts you at risk for a quick re-gain of fat, not muscle.
- Detoxing for more than three days can rob your bod of vitamins/minerals.

The All-American Rejects certainly don't reject healthy living. The rockers stay healthy on tour, and are sporting mustaches for one of the hottest health drinks around.Mariah Carey makes the most of her workout by adding water to the mix. She loves that a pool workout provides resistance and burns more calories, and even took her workout on vacation.
After getting some rotten press about her body, Jennifer Love Hewitt made it known that she was perfectly happy with her body, and that if she did lose any weight, it would be for health. Well, the curvaceous beauty has lost the weight, and she looks fabulous, but some are questioning the strength of her body image message now that she's dropped the pounds.
We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Mariah Carey's wet workout

Mariah Carey loves to wear tight, tiny clothes that show off her curves, so it makes perfect sense to me that she loves working out in the pool -- she gets to wear a bikini! And hey, if we all had a body like that, we might want to live in a bikini, too.But in all seriousness, the diva has worked hard to get her body toned, and keeps it that way by swimming in her pool at home every day. She's currently on vacation, but she's not just lounging around -- she's taken her exercise routine to the Mediterranean Sea. And, we assume, eating artichokes.
Mariah prefers wet workouts, saying, "What's great about working out in the pool is that the water acts as resistance, so you're actually exercising twice as hard without feeling it." Plus, even if splashing around in the Mediterranean is burning calories, nobody's going to deny it's also fun, right?

Denise Richards might not look heavy to most of us, but she certainly thinks she needs to lose a few pounds. And will she do it by eating sensibly and working out -- you know, ways that will set a good example for her daughters? Oh hell no!In celebrity news that's a little more down to earth, Daisy Fuentes is in a really good place, and comfortable with her body. Of course, she has a fabulous body, so that might be part of it, but still, she has a very healthy outlook on aging from which many of us could take a cue.
Another celebrity with a fabulous figure is Mariah Carey. She has no problem showing it off, obviously, but how did she get it?
We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Mariah Carey's not joking about artichokes

When celebrities get themselves in fabulous shape, I'm always curious to know what they attribute their success to. And while Mariah Carey could probably do a little better at dressing her curves (we know you're fit, Mimi -- you don't have to wear everything like it's painted on!), there's no doubt that her body looks fabulous. And she credits artichokes. You probably already know that artichokes are a fabulous food choice, and there are a number of easy ways to prepare them. The thing that really helped Mariah, though, was the fact that they're so rich in fiber, meaning she felt fuller and snacked less.
Mariah also credited exercise with her sleek physique, though after seeing her toss a first pitch earlier this year at a Giants' game, I have a hard time picturing her sweating it up at the gym! Regardless, the girl looks fabulous, and if eating artichokes helped her get there, I'm picking some up at the grocery store tonight!

Anna Kournikova participated in the Nautica South Beach Triathlon. Sort of, anyway. She ran a four mile portion as part of a relay team for K-Swiss. She held a very respectable 7:15/mile pace, but she had another goal that took up a good bit of her focus -- raising awareness for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. The tennis player regularly incorporates running into her fitness routine, so this was not a huge stretch for her. Some observers say she's lost her curves, but I think she looks fit and healthy.Mariah Carey is showing up everywhere lately, but there's less of her to see thanks to a lifestyle change and nutrition and fitness coach. She admits she's bummed to give up her comfort foods, like mac 'n cheese, but she's thrilled to be fitting into the same size jeans she wore in 10th grade.
Not only is Britney Spears working out at Bally (she's been there one to three times a day, lately) -- she just might become their newest spokeswoman. You know, if fitness plays a big role in Britney turning her life around, then Bally might be taking a really smart risk. Or not. Only time will tell.
Mariah Carey plans fitness video
Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment
Mariah Carey has never been one to hide her curves. Typically clad in a super tight gown and crazily high heels, Carey seems proud of her womanly frame. But Carey noticed she looked "bulky" in publicity photos and decided to take off the extra pounds. Through diet and a strict work out regime, Carey dropped the weight.Carey still has her curves and is proud of it. She knew she needed to be fitter, but believes that people should feel good about their bodies. She stated that "people should be a size which they're comfortable with." She recently stated that she is considering doing a work out video to show how she lost the weight. Though she doesn't seem to be taking the idea terribly seriously. She's quoted as saying it "will be a big joke anyway, but I can show how I did it."

Your Turn: Best celeb slim-downs in 2007
Your Turn, Celebs & Entertainment
2007 was the year that many celebrities got fit and slim. And you know what? Good for them. Losing weight takes hard work and dedication, whether you're a celebrity or not. Some stars battled the baby weight, while some simply decided to tone up and trim down. In any case, here are some of my favourite celeb slim-downs -- let me know who tops your list, either by voting below or leaving a comment:

Mariah Looks great, but it's down to a 'bleak' diet
Here's a diet tip from Mariah Carey: If you're trying to lose weight, eat only 'bleak' foods -- things that are tasteless. I can see how this would work ... if you're only eating things you don't particularly like, food will become little more than a necessity. Still, who can stick to a diet like that? Certainly not me. It must work though -- Mariah looks great! In addition to a diet of bleak foods (which she says are basically bland fish and soups,) she admits that she works out with her personal trainer, Patricia, who she flies from St. Barts to New York for their workouts, mainly water aerobics. But she also admits that she's learned to accept her curves:
"I don't feel like you have to be a size zero. We should all just embrace who we are physically. I'm not supposed to be a stick figure girl. It's just not me."
What do you think of Mariah's weight-loss philosophy?
Eating like a star: Food requests of popular musicians
Some celebrities make healthy choices. John Mayer and Christina Aguilera both request a selection of organic items and Shania Twain brings along her own juicer and requests a bunch of fresh fruits and veggies.
Now it's your turn. If you were a famous musician, what would you request on the road? I think I would ask for a plate of fancy expensive cheeses, a bunch of fresh, organic fruits and veggies, some chocolate (though not too much -- I wouldn't want to over-indulge), a selection of fresh seafood and, what the heck, a bottle of champagne. You only live once, right?
