Why do we work so hard to eat right, work out, and stay mentally and emotionally fit? When we peel back all the layers, we are ultimately in a perpetual state of drinking, or perhaps merely sipping, at the fountain of youth. We want to look good, feel good, have energy and not grow old. While aging is the ultimate inevitable, there are many tips and tricks to keeping a youthful appearance, and lucky for the girls make-up is one of them!

Look Young With These 5 Tips

  1. Getting Cheeky. As we age, our skin gradually loses collagen. Women very commonly develop concave cheeks as a result. Rather than applying dark blush to the hollows of the cheeks, which actually accentuates the concave appearance making women appear older, try sweeping the blush on the apple of your cheek -- the meatiest part of the face when smiling. Brush on the blush using a circular motion, diffusing out toward the hairline to avoid any streaks.
  2. Luscious Lips. Use soft but vibrant shades of lipstick rather than darker shades. Brighter colors add the color back into the lips that may have faded with age. Create the illusion of fullness by dabbing a clear or complementary shade of gloss in the center of the lower lip. This will bring back the color and fullness of more youthful lips.
  3. Powder Power. Too much of a good thing is never a good thing. Powder can only work its magic when used sparingly. Dust powder only where needed, for most people this will typically be the T-zone -- forehead, nose, and chin. Or, as an alternative, blot skin with powder-free, oil-absorbing sheets. The sheets are fantastic as you avoid caking on too much powder, which can accentuate wrinkles and blemishes.
  4. Shimmery Shadow. As much as I will always love "kissing potion" lip gloss -- remember the kind that rolled on with the glossy ball? -- not all our fond make-up memories need to be recreated in our adult life. The same holds true for frosted eye shadow. Satisfy the frosty craving with the new and improved sheen or shimmery eye shadows. These shimmery eye shadows offer a soft, subtle hint of glint while remaining consistent in its texture so not to gather in the creases of your eyelids.
  5. Lid Lines. Create the illusion of youth with eye-popping intensity. The upper eyelids should always be slightly more dramatic than the lower lids. When using powder shadow, use an eyeliner brush to sweep the top lash line first. Line the lower lids using the brush's remaining powder to make it look like there are soft shadows cast from your lashes. If you use a pencil instead of powder, lightly smudge the lower lids to reduce the impact of the liner.
Eat well. Work out. Love yourself. The rest you can cover up with make-up!

Don't grow old gracefully! Take tips from Clinique

Fitness, Alternative & Green Health

Okay, so you should grow old gracefully (it's just tacky to try to look 20 again), but to me gracefully means doing what you can to look as good as possible every step of the way. There's nothing wrong with putting up a little fight and giving those wrinkles a hard time of it.

There are many many things you can do to help slow the appearance and severity of natural aging, but according to this list by Clinique's dermatologist for iVillage, some of the first things on the list are to wear sunscreen diligently, wear sunglasses and avoid squinting, stop smoking (or don't ever start!), and eat a balanced nutritious diet. That's just the first 5 in a long list of tips, so see the article for 3 pages of just about everything else you can think of -- from getting enough sleep to exfoliating properly.

How strength training helps you look younger

Healthy Aging, Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness

When you hear that lifting weights helps people look younger you probably think along the lines of exercise and toning equals weight loss and a younger physique. And while that's obviously true, it's not the whole story. Strength training in particular can actually help you look younger from the inside out by encouraging your body to produce more of a particular growth hormone that is linked with age-related muscle loss and bone density changes.

As we age our bodies slowly decrease the amount of growth hormone produced, but strength training is a natural and healthy way to counteract this process. Just one more reason not to skip the gym!
