Gwyneth's Tips for A Better Life
Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment
A while back, we told you about Gwyneth Paltrow's new website, called GOOP, on which she provides tips and inspiration on how to live healthfully. You can even sign up to receive Emails from Gwynnie herself. Over at The Daily Mail, one columnist did just that -- here's what the Oscar-winning actress has to say about living your best life.- Do your own cooking, rather than relying on take-out, delivery or fast food. It only takes a few minutes to make something delicious, and Gwyneth has lots of recipes to share.
- Get lots of sleep, at least eight hours a night. Having trouble going to bed that early? A warm cup of chamomile tea will help.
- Eat well by choosing only foods that can be dug from the ground, cut from a tree, hunted or fished. Avoid white flour, sugar, caffeine and dairy.
- Police your thoughts, and make sure you 'redirect' any negative or judgmental thoughts, especially when they're about yourself.
- Walk and do yoga every day.
These are some great tips (there's more here and here), but are they practical for us common folk? What do you think?

Gwyneth Paltrow offers advice on getting healthy and getting in shape
We're all familiar with the public persona Gwyneth Paltrow puts forward -- stunning actress, wife and supermom, not to mention budding fitness diva. But there's a reason she practices such healthy habits -- her health. Recently, Paltrow admitted to seeking out three doctors to help her with "some very sticky health problems, including pneumonia, anemia and stress. And she admits, "they've helped me tremendously." Now she's offering some healthy advice of her own. "Sleep eight hours for two weeks, then start eliminating 'white' foods," says Paltrow. "After two weeks of sleeping and eating better, you'll have the energy to exercise." Adds Alejandro Junger, an NYC cardiologist, "If you are totally out of shape, start by walking 15 minutes a day and add a minute every day for the first month. At the end of a month, you'll be up to 45 minutes a day, which should make you ready for whatever more strenuous form of exercise you want to try. Experiment with them all to see what works best for you and stick with it."
Will this help you look as good as Gwynnie? Unfortunately, no. She works out three hours a day. But hey -- it's a start.

Gwyneth Paltrow not only eats healthfully and exercises -- she even does her own cooking! She might not be making the lightest, most low-fat foods, but it sounds like she really enjoys it.
Comedienne Margaret Cho has finally found the right diet for her, but it's not really a diet! She's sharing her slim-down secrets, and you might be surprised at how simple it sounds.
Gwyneth does all her own cooking

Here's what she had to say to People Magazine at the recent launch of her PBS food show, Spain ... on the Road Again: "I cook all the meals for my house. I really love to cook. Breads and pizzas is what I'm cooking and we all love it. We have a wood burning pizza oven in our garden. Right now the weather is nice in London, so I'm using that oven a lot. You can cook anything in there. It's amazing."
Sneak Peak at Gwyneth Paltrow's workout
We're used to seeing Gwyneth Paltrow looking elegant and sleek on the red carpet. But the Oscar-winning actress recently revealed another look: Red-faced and dripping with sweat in a skin-tight leotard. Amid rumors that she's going to release a workout DVD, the 35-year-old star recently appeared on Oprah and shared with viewers the kind of intense workout she used to shed the 20 lbs of baby weight she gained with her last child, Moses.
I didn't see the show, but judging from these photos, she had to work really hard to get back into shape. Paltrow admits to working out for two hours a day, six days a week. As for her eating habits, she's mentioned that she doesn't diet, but she does try to eat healthy. Says the actress: "Once I started exercising I was doing cardio and I felt like I had to get rid of stuff, I started recommitting to eating well because when I was pregnant I was eating donuts."
Her hard work has obviously paid off. What do you think?

There's no doubt that Jennie Garth looks just as good on 90210 this time around as she did the first time the series aired, but to get her body in rocking shape, she's relying on one really interesting technique -- keeping her muscles confused.
Gwyneth's slimdown secret: No diets
Diet & Weight Loss, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

In a nutshell, here's what the 35-year-old actress says about eating what she wants, when she wants it.
- Paltrow finds it impossible to stick to a diet. It's the idea that you can't have something that makes her want it even more. Ah, deprivation -- a diet derailer for sure.
- Instead of counting calories, this star prefers to work up a sweat. "It's worth it to me to do that extra exercise so I can eat what I want and not think about it," she says.
- To demonstrate her love for food -- and her willingness to eat it -- Paltrow and chef Mario Batali cooked, ate, and drank their way across Spain for their upcoming show, Spain ... On the Road Again. The PBS culinary series debuts September 20 and will go on to follow a tour of 13 cities.
While Paltrow may not follow a strict diet, she's obviously eating right -- I'd guess junk foods are not a staple on her daily menu. Combined with her solid exercise routine, she's found a good balance. You can too.

Gwyneth Paltrow has always kept a slim, trim figure, and soon you might have a chance to train with the cool blonde -- without gym equipment!
A source recently told The Sun, a British newspaper, that Gwyneth might be releasing a workout DVD, on which she'll "show what she does each day to stay slim -- mostly Pilates, yoga, and resistance training."
The only catch? Gwynnie is rumored to work out for two hours a day, and while I know I'd love to go through a workout with her, I also know I can't commit that kind of time each day to an exercise video. Whether Gwyneth actually puts out a video or not, there are plenty of celebs who have videos out there -- you might be surprised at some of the names out there!
Gwyneth Paltrow and Key to the Cure
Diet & Weight Loss, Celebs & Entertainment
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is lending her famous name and face to a good cause -- breast cancer research. The star is joining with Saks Fifth Avenue's and the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Key to the Cure. Key to the Cure raises money for research and brings awareness to the issue of women and breast cancer. Paltrow will appear in the ad campaign in a t-shirt designed by Karl Lagerfield, which will debut at Saks Fifth Avenue on October 1st. The shirt retails for $40 and nearly all of that will go to Key for the Cure. During the week of October 16-19, customers who shop at Saks or saks.com will see 2% of their purchase go to the organization as well.
So if you find yourself in need of a new t-shirt, or just need some new back-to-school clothes of your own, when you buy from Saks in October, you'll also be lending a helping hand to breast cancer research. Win-win!

We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs Weekly Roundup
This has been a Gwyneth Paltrow-heavy week. First of all, the mother of two spoke up about her battle with post-partum depression after the birth of her second child, son Moses. She said, "I felt really out of my body ... really down ... really pessimistic." She thinks part of the problem was that she stopped taking time for herself and neglected her usual wellness treatments, such as acupuncture and massage. And, as long as we're talking about Gwynnie and gawking, there's no WAY I'm going to leave out the wardrobe she's been sporting while stumping for her new flick, Iron Man. First of all, there have been shoes -- shoes with heels of half a foot or so. And then the dresses! Gwyneth has been rocking the shortest minidresses imaginable, mostly with great success. She certainly has the body to pull it off, although I'm firmly of the opinion that nobody should wear a skirt so short that there's serious risk of a panty-flash, no matter how fab the legs are.
In other Gwyneth news, her trainer (who she says Madonna stole) gave USWeekly a diet and exercise program designed to allow participants to lose three to five pounds a week. It doesn't look too healthy to me, so I think I'll stick with a more moderate plan and be happy to drop just a pound or two weekly.
Gwyneth Paltrow loves fried food
Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements
Years ago, before having babies Apple and Moses, Gwyneth Paltrow stayed slim and trim by sticking to a strict macrobiotic diet. She abandoned the diet during her first pregnancy, though, and has never gone back."I was seriously macrobiotic for four years," says Paltrow. "When I [first] got pregnant, it changed. I couldn't go near anything healthy."
Now a fan of anything fried (fish and chips are favorites) and red wine, and all sorts of food and drink found in London -- where she lives with husband Chris Martin and her two little ones -- Paltrow somehow looks just as good as she did all those years ago. How can his be?
