Which Grey's Anatomy Star Can Kick You in the Head?

Celebrity Fitzness Report, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.

Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, known best as Dr. Owen Hunt on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, has had his health and fitness habits completely uprooted as a result of his career. Besides starring on a hit prime time TV show, Kevin starred in Rome and has an athletic role in the upcoming action movie Bunraku. He used to be a carb addict and now he's passionate about the fighting arts and fitness. Pay close attention to the lessons he's learned to stay hot in Hollywood and see if they can change your life as well.

Fitz: The characters you play are usually pretty fit. What type of training do you do?

Kevin: Fitness has always been a part of my life, but it's become a much bigger part because of my job. I just finished an action movie called Bunraku (with Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson), which I did a lot of martial arts training for.

Fitz: My sport is kickboxing; it's the best exercise ever! How did you like it?

Kevin: It was great fun. I had a boxing trainer, and I did a lot of rounds hitting the bag and his mitts. During the week, I trained with the stunt team.

Fitz: What's your favorite strike?

90210 skinny girl eats chocolate

Celebs & Entertainment, Nutrition & Supplements

If skinny girls can eat chocolate and maintain their weight, then surely we not-so-willowy ones can too. I know, we have no idea what these gals do to keep pounds from packing on. Still, if chocolate is permitted by this crew, then why not enjoy a bite yourself now and then.

Now and then
are the key words. Just ask 90210 actress AnnaLynne McCord, who enjoys just a taste in the name of portion control.

McCord's taste comes in the form of the new Dove chocolate bars, says PEOPLE magazine. They come in three individually wrapped portions, each with 180 calories and available in six flavors -- check out a picture of the $1.99 treat here. Eat just an ounce of dark chocolate to regulate your blood pressure and increase blood flow to the heart -- Grey's Anatomy star Chandra Wilson does -- because that's why we all eat chocolate, right? Yeah. That's it.

Are shows like ER, House, and Greys Anatomy really that unrealistic?

Celebs & Entertainment

Depending on how much you know about health care and the medical field you may or may not notice all the missteps that happen regularly on TV shows. Despite the occasional mispronunciation of a medical term by an actor, the "hollywoodizing" (yeah, I know that's not actually a word) goes much deeper. The most commonly exaggerated or misrepresented issues are:
  • Organ donation
  • Nurses roles
  • Range of doctors' expertise
  • Frequency of hospital romances
We all know that TV isn't real, and that everything is sensationalized for entertainment value. But it is sad that organ donation specifically is often portrayed negatively -- people have a hard enough time making that decision!
