Detroit Lions' Matthew Stafford - Drinking Before Workout Helps Performance

That's Fit had a chance to talk to about hydration with Matthew Stafford, former Georgia Bulldog and current Detroit Lions quarterback after going #1 in the 2009 NFL draft. Having grown up in Texas and played college football in the South, Stafford has always been cognizant of the importance of getting enough water. He's now taking part in a joint effort between Gatorade and the NFL called Beat the Heat.
That's Fit: Have you had any scares or personal experience with severe dehydration?
MS: I had never really cramped or had a problem, and then, when [Georgia] was playing South Carolina, I cramped up so badly. I had both legs going at the same time -- it was scary, I couldn't even walk. I realized then how important it is to not just hydrate during the game, but before.

How often do you exercise? I used to train six days a week with one day of rest, but because of the tumor in my foot, I am limited to working out every other day.
What type of exercise do you do? Rollerblading, mountain biking and lifting weights. On a good day, I play beach volleyball.
What gets you to work out, even when you're feeling lazy? I just convince myself that no matter the pain or how I feel that the end results justify the means, Plus I know that after a workout i feel so much better all around.
Kim Kardashian Skipped Super Bowl to Work Out

Kim Kardashian's main squeeze might be professional football player, Reggie Bush, but this year, she wasn't even watching the Super Bowl. Nope, instead of vegging out and stuffing her face with all kinds of
It wasn't just a regular old workout, of course -- she was shooting a workout DVD. The shoot was planned long before anyone was aware that February 1 was the Super Bowl, and while Kim didn't want to miss the big game, she felt shooting the video was more important.Kim explained why shooting this video meant so much to her, saying, "For young girls to see exercise videos that have only skinny girls ... well, that's something they can't attain. I want this to be something that can be realistic for most girls." The video will be geared toward curvier women, showing them how to tone up and stay in shape. And, while I applaud Kim for wanting to promote a good body image, I'm very curious to see how her workout differs from the "skinny girl" workouts. Aren't you?
Jillian Barberie Reynolds - NFL Hottie Shares Her Stay-Thin Tips
Alright, it's Super Bowl Sunday. Do you have a game plan? I'm not talking about whether or not to run the option (that's a football thing, right?) -- I'm talking about the table of food that will undoubtedly be at whatever Super Bowl party you attend. How will you handle it?I recently had a chance to chat with Jillian Barberie Reynolds, from The NFL on Fox. She knows a thing or two about maintaining her figure when surrounded by fatty football foods -- after all, she's been working alongside big guys like Howie Long and Terry Bradshaw for nearly 10 years. Anyway, she shared a couple of tips with me about navigating the buffet (and more -- you can read the rest at StyleList).
Dealing with diet-derailing football foods:
"When you're doing the Super Bowl like I've done, you know you're going to be in front of millions of people. Trying to navigate work and Super Bowl parties, you don't want to chow down because there's nothing worse than feeling fat on camera. It's pretty easy for me. I'm a big believer in not doing the snacks beforehand, or the hors d'oeuvres, and just going right for, like, the Super Bowl chili. And not having it with cornbread. And not drinking beer with it. I might have a glass of wine with it, but mostly I'll stick to anything high protein that people put out. I totally try to stay away from the chips. And if I do eat that stuff, I do it in moderation. If I'm working the Super Bowl, I'm really disciplined. If I'm enjoying it at a friend's house, I try not to stress out. I enjoy the food but try to do the high protein thing."
Aaron Rodgers - Yoga, Pilates and Gatorade Keep This NFL QB Going

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has had a tough year by all accounts. After dealing with the storm of controversy regarding Brett Favre (something that obviously still bothers him), he made his first start at Lambeau Field, getting in a win against the Minnesota Vikings.
He's down at the Super Bowl in Tampa this weekend, hanging out at Gatorade's G Studio, and I had a chance to chat with him. I left the Favre questions to the ESPN junkies -- I was more interested in this pro athlete's fitness tips. Check out the gallery to see the interview!
Weight Watchers Offers SuperBowl Recipes and Healthy Eating Tips
Even if you're not all that interested in football, I'm willing to bet you've attended a SuperBowl party or two. I mean, why not -- it's a chance to socialize and get rowdy with your friends, and it's a free pass to eat junk and chug beer. Oh, wait. Actually, it's not.I don't mean that you have to munch on celery sticks and drink water all game -- after all, this is a party. However, you have plenty of healthful options, and Weight Watchers has some tips for helping you be a winner this SuperBowl.
Check out the gallery for some quarter by quarter suggestions as well as a delicious sounding recipe from the Weight Watchers Cookbook. Got a healthful recipe you plan to use? Share it in the comments!
Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen Engaged - Expect Superbabies Soon
NFL star Tom Brady and his leading lady, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, have made it official -- the unbelievably attractive couple is engaged to be married. Brady proposed aboard a private jet on Christmas Eve, accompanied by four dozen white roses, champagne and Bundchen's parents who were visiting from Brazil. Could they be any cuter? Here at That's Fit, we're fans of both Tom and Gisele already -- they're both so fit and healthy (and dreamy, of course). While Brady's athletic prowess is well-documented -- he is one of the best quarterbacks playing professional football, after all -- Bundchen's should be noted as well. She originally wanted to become a professional volleyball player in Brazil, and with her height and work ethic, she might've had a shot. You know, if the whole "highest earning supermodel" thing hadn't gotten in the way.
Now, I'm not normally one to push a couple to have babies -- not by a long shot. However, I cannot wait to see how athletic their kids are going to be. I bet Gatorade, Nike and Oakley are already setting aside funds to scoop up Baby Bundchen-Brady's endorsement!
Update: The couple's families are denying the engagement. However, a spokesperson for Tom's team, the Patriots, says that while he doesn't think the engagement rumors are true, "Tom keeps his private life private." I'm still holding out hope for their genetically gifted offspring debuting soon!
Age Without Getting Old: Lessons from Celebrities
Healthy Aging, Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment
I've spent a lot of time with various celebrities this year and have poked them all about their health and fitness habits. Two of the most inspiring were not the young hard bodies we see on the covers of tabloid magazines each week. No, these two celebrities have healthy capable bodies, which have endured many years of living.
The woman I speak of, at 57 years old, is every bit the blond bombshell she was known as 30 years ago. She works out six to seven days a week, mixing up her workouts with: kickboxing, yoga, water aerobics and climbing her steep driveway known as "butt hill."
The man who stood out is in his late 60s and still plays basketball and baseball on a regular basis. The guy has probably been in every hit sitcom in the past three decades and told me that the highlight of his year would be if I could hook him up to throw the ball around with the Heisman Trophy winning University of Florida quarterback, Tim Tebow.
Tiki Barber's 'Pure Hard Workout'
Fitness, Celebs & Entertainment
Tiki Barber was on NBC yesterday morning promoting his new book, Tiki Barber's Pure Hard Workout. The man may not be playing football anymore, but judging by his body, he's still hitting the gym, hard.Tiki's workout focuses on powerlifting using basic lifts, like squats and deadlifts, rather than machines. It's intense -- when Tiki first entered the NFL, everyone thought he was too slight to be a star. However, after he started working with powerlifting legend Joe Carini, "Tiki became pound-for-pound the strongest man in the NFL and a true force on the field."
The book contains 300 full-color pictures of Tiki performing every exercise as well as in-depth instructions to help you perform each exercise and understand which muscles the exercises are working. Sounds like a great book for anyone serious about gaining strength and muscle. And, with all those pictures, it's something the ladies probably wouldn't mind having around the house, either.
Tony Romo and Will Smith Pep It Up for a Dallas High School
We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs, Celebs & Entertainment

The volleyball and football teams at Dallas' Lake Highlands High School got a major surprise at their pep rally on Tuesday -- Will Smith and Tony Romo showed up to give motivational speeches and meet privately with the teams and their cheerleaders.
The volleyball team was gearing up for the state championship while the football team was preparing for districts, and it sounds like both teams got some great inspiration. Smith passed on the advice he was given by Quincy Jones when first starting out in show business. He wanted to be the biggest movie star in the world, and Quincy told him he needed to be fearless -- willing to be hurt and held back -- and relentless, meaning he wouldn't stop until he achieved his goal.
Romo also had personal experience to draw upon, recalling how he had to overcome people telling him he couldn't make it as a free agent in football. He took it upon himself to improve the areas of his game that were lacking, and he doesn't limit that attitude to sports, saying anyone can make necessary improvements at any time in any aspect of life. He then led the school in a traditional Cowboys chant.
Diet on the down-low with these 2 tips
Diet & Weight Loss, Nutrition & Supplements
When you're watching what you eat -- whether to lose weight or just to be careful about the foods you put in your body -- there's a nice side perk ... you set a great example for everyone around you. But sometimes, you just don't want to draw dieting attention to yourself. Women's Health has some great tips for dieting on the down-low:- This Thanksgiving, you're likely to have a relative who keeps pushing second helpings. You can enjoy the day (and avoid the chorus of "eat, eat!") by piling your plate high with veggies, white meat, and the other more healthful selections. Be sure to bring a dish to pass, too. Your hostess will appreciate the help and you'll be thankful for at least one truly diet-friendly dish.
- When watching the game and watching everyone else munching on hot wings and nachos, you might not want to stand out with your baby carrots and cucumbers. Bring some healthier game fare that everyone can enjoy such as a healthier dip with low-fat yogurt instead of sour cream; have chips and raw veggies for dipping too.

Curious to know how celebrities squeeze fitness into their daily lives? Want to know the secrets of the stars? Bi-weekly, our That's Fit fitness expert Fitz sits down with the celebs we want to know more about, and digs out their great and not-so-great methods to staying healthy.
James Tupper plays "Owen", the hunky new rich guy getting busy with Christina Applegate's character on Samantha Who? He's a rising star who spent two years working opposite Ann Heche (his girlfriend in real-life) in Men in Trees and has also worked on hit shows like CSI:New York, Gilmore Girls and many others. James greeted me with a super cheery "Hi Fitz!" for this interview and was really sarcastic and fun throughout. He's an easy guy who loves carpentry, outdoor exercise and playing with Anne's 6-year-old son Homer.
Want to know how he prepares to show skin on camera? Read on!
Fitz: I love Samantha Who? It's such a cute show. What's it like working with the lovely Miss Christina Applegate?
James: It's amazing. She is a fantastic comedian. We work 14-hour days, and she is awesome from beginning to end. I really enjoy working with her. She's also really smart; she blows through crossword puzzles on the set.
We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs: Ashton Kutcher's new love
We Love To Gawk At Fit Celebs, Celebs & Entertainment

Last month, Maggie gave us the scoop on Ashton Kutcher's new role ... as the assistant coach for a freshman football team. And now, Ashton himself is speaking up about the experience.
Basically, he loves it. On his MySpace Celebrity blog, he talks about how his team has a winning record (4-2), saying his team is "a great group of individuals that understand that the collective force is greater than any individual can ever be."
He also talks a little about why he started coaching. While he always wanted to do it, he admits that he didn't do it earlier for several reasons: "I was afraid of the time commitment. I was afraid that I would look stupid. I was afraid that the players wouldn't listen to my football advice. I was afraid that the advice that I gave wouldn't be very good."
