Y Water: Fitness water meets playtime for kids
Healthy Kids, Reviews & Products, Alternative & Green Health, Nutrition & Supplements
Y Water is looking to tap into more than just the bottled water market by appealing also to the healthy and fit kids market and those shopping for ways to be friendlier to the environment. They offer four specialized low-calorie formulas to target the brain, muscles, bones, and immunity, plus once the water's gone, the leftover bottle (specially created by designer Yves Béhar) can be used as a building block of sorts to make toys and encourage creativity.
Sounds like a great way to get your kids to drink more water and get more vitamins and nutrients, all while helping the environment and stimulating their brains (or at least giving them a few minutes of entertainment).

Hollywood restaurant claims "healthy fast food"
Healthy fast food? Could there really be such a thing? A West Hollywood restaurant in California called O!burger seems to think so, and they're not talking cold sub sandwiches either. Burgers, fries, and shakes make up a good part of their menu, along with veggie burgers, yogurt smoothies, and salads.Their main claim to fame (and health) is that they're 100% organic and striving to be eco-friendly in every way they can. They do have a healthy sounding veggie burger made of spinach and corn, but no mention of fat grams or calories. Is being organic enough to make such a broad claim like "healthy?" Unfortunately I don't live in the area and can't go try it for myself but if you do then give it a shot and let us know what you think!
Daily Fit Tip: Bug-proof naturally
Sometimes I don't know which one is worse: dealing with the bugs or dealing with the greasy, smelly, full-of-toxic-chemicals bug repellent! Thankfully there are natural ways to cope.
Three ways to have an eco-friendly workout
Fitness, Alternative & Green Health
Healthy living isn't only about being fit -- it's about being good to the environment as well. Because after all, we can only be as healthy as our our earth is, don't you agree? I recently picked up the October '07 issue of Fitness Magazine while on the treadmill at my gym, and they listed three ways you can green up your workout:
- Use green transportation. Why drive to the gym if you're going to hop on the exercise bike when you're there? Why not ride your bike to the gym and do something good for the workout and the environment?
- Buy a reusable water bottle. Those little individual water bottles wreak havoc on the environment -- yes, they can be recycled but recycling uses resources too and I bet many of them aren't recycled.
- Recycle your old sneakers. There are plenty of programs that will make good use of your old sneakers. Find one in your area!
Jumpstart Your Fitness: Get some new eco-friendly workout gear
The environment, global warming, and going green are all things that are becoming more and more embedded in our every day lives, which is of course a good thing. We can all be a little more conscious in our global efforts, and even if it's just making the smallest change the great part is that it multiplies across the population and can end up really making a difference. I thought for today's Jumpstart I'd take the idea that sometimes all your stalled workout needs is something new in the way of clothes or equipment to help make it interesting again, and going eco-friendly is the perfect excuse to help soothe that pang of guilt that's been holding you back.Of course there are countless products out there to choose from in the green fitness world, and thankfully the options are only increasing. So what is it that would make the biggest difference for you and your workout right now? Maybe it's a new top, new shoes, or something else? Here's a few things I found online to help get the wheels of inspiration turning!
The greenest countries in the world? China, Australia and Canada
According to this article, China and Australia have been named the greenest countries in the world -- that is, they're the places where citizens are most concerned about environmental issues like global warming. They're also the countries that are most likely to buy 'green' products and services. This discovery seemed to come as a surprise to researchers, but while I had no idea that the Chinese were so environmentally-friendly, I predicted Australia would take a top spot. When I was there a few months ago, I was surprised at all the steps Australians took to conserve the environment. Plastic bags, for instance, were nearly unheard of -- everyone carries fabric bags when they do their shopping. And throwing leftover food in the trash? No way -- it goes in the compost.
Another surprise? Canadians also ranked highly on the list because 60% of Canadians say they are taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint. But where I live in Western Canada, SUVs and constant littering prevail -- much to my chagrin.
