Lisa Marie Presley wins big fat apology

Is an apology really an apology when it's mandated? I don't think so, given the fact that it's not really rooted in sincerity. Maybe it's better than nothing, though.

Britain's Daily Mail newspaper was made to apologize to the daughter of Elvis after printing last month that Presley, like her late father, was packing on the pounds with a poor diet. But Presley wasn't "growing just like her dad," as the paper claimed. She was growing because of the baby in her belly. So Presley sued for libel. And the paper published an apology. It went like this:

On March 4 we published a photograph of Lisa Marie Presley while she was dining with friends. We suggested she might have an unhealthy appetite similar to her late father. We now accept that the suggestion is untrue and apologize to Ms. Presley for any distress caused.

Presley, 40, is expecting her third child this Fall.

Did food or drugs bring Elvis' reign to an end?

While many rock stars meet an unfortunate end due to drug use, one man is taking a new look at Elvis Presley's death and what caused it. Was it drugs that did him in, or burgers?

James Marsh's new documentary, The Burger and the King, takes a look at Elvis' eating habits, starting with his poor, burgerless childhood and chronicling his love of fatty foods throughout his adult life. Fat and calorie content are included. A Southern boy through and through, the King was drawn toward unhealthy, fried and fatty foods, and his hunger seemed to grow right along with his fame.

The documentary will premiere at the IFC Center's Stranger Than Fiction festival, but you can also catch it on You Tube if you're so inclined.

Lisa Marie sues over weight gain story

Lisa Marie Presley is one celebrity who is not putting up with media reports pegging her as fat. In fact, she's suing British newspaper the Daily Mail for suggesting she has an unhealthy appetite and is gaining weight like her father Elvis did.

It's not appetite plaguing Presley. It's pregnancy. Yep, the 40-year-old singer is pregnant. That's why her waistline is expanding.

Presley is none too happy to be announcing her news in this fashion and on this MySpace Celebrity blog, she writes with fervor about sharing her happy news amidst a media attack.

Will Presley win this lawsuit? It's a possibility, says Mark Stephens, a leading London media law expert who says "for an observation that would not be actionable in the USA, she will undoubtedly be recovering damages in London."

Rock stars really do live fast and die young

It's a famous cliche for a famous group of people: "Live fast, die young." But a study out of Liverpool recently examined the lives and deaths of over 1,000 artists and found that rock stars really are more likely to die early compared to the rest of the population.

Musicians like Elvis, Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Cobain were all included in the study. Researchers found that drugs and alcohol were to blame for a high number of deaths. Stars in their first 5 years of fame were particularly at risk, but if musicians made it to the 25th anniversary of their first hit record, their life expectancy returned to normal EXCEPT in America (always in America) where older musicians remained at risk, especially from heart attack and stroke.

Raise your hand if you're surprised. Anyone? Anyone at all?

The eating habits of icons throughout the ages

Our eating habits are shaped by so many influences, some more than we think. eDiets has offered a unique look in to the eating habits, real and portrayed, of some of the most famous pop culture icons throughout the ages. Usually, when a celebrity has an eating habit that's notable, it's an unhealthy one because really, who gets famous for eating salads? Here are some of the famous eaters they've profiled:

Elvis is famous for his peanut butter and fried banana sandwiches, even more so than some of his songs!
Dagwood Bumstead, of comic strip fame, is famous for his monsterous sandwiches, now simply known as a 'Dagwood'
Eric Cartman loves cheesy poofs
And Homer Simpson loves, well, pretty much anything as long as it's unhealthy. D'oh!

What icon's eating stands out for you?
